  1. I've never tried sit-flying at low speeds like that, but I'm tempted to think it's easier than sit-flying at > 100 MPH. Anyone know? Maybe I'll have to try getting off in a sit on the next helicopter or balloon jump to see if it's easier. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  2. Now that would be valuable information, considering the people lining up to jump the things Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  3. WFFC and I seem to go up to Orlando once a week, and we spend money in the tunnel. Much better investment if you ask me. But if you can't do tunnel time, then I'm with Clay - tittie bar beats the ladenhosen-wearing rat. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  4. I searched the forums, but didn't see anything, so I assume most people didn't get this spam. Chime in if you did, or if you have any info. I bolded the funniest part: Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  5. So the boogie was moved inland to Skydive SouthWest Florida. WFFC and I were there on Saturday and we had a pretty good time. The planned Casa and Otter were not there - only Bob's Caravan. The people were cool and fun to jump with. Thanks to Eric from Fasttrax for organizing some good RW jumps. One question I had was - considering the boogie was no longer on the beach and the planes were not there, why were jump tickets $23 each? I've never been to a boogie with ticket prices that high. 6. I finally heard it yesterday morning - does anyone know if the interviewees were from Skydance Photography? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  7. Happy birthday Mary! Have a great day! Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  8. Make a template. Cut. Cut. Sew. Hot-glue. Sew again. Rethread. Mirage says this takes 15-20 minutes. About how long is this taking the Master Riggers to do? Seems like it would take me longer. Of course, everything about rigging seems to take me longer Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  9. Lol - OK Have I mentioned that your wife is a babe? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  10. I chatted with one of my old buddies at LMA, and they haven't done a formal analysis of the pictures yet, but he told me carbon fibers is probably a good guess. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  11. Really? I saw one landing that looked an awful lot like a femur - they were out there with him for a long time before they brought out the stretcher. I hope he's OK. Anyway, first hybrid jump for me
  12. Nice one, Bob! I love the plug for Fortran I actually worked at Lockheed Martin with a guy that refused to stop programming in Fortran, even though our 6-DOF simulations got WAY slow from his code plugins - we finally made him upgrade the compiler from Fortran 77 to something newer Trapped on the surface of a sphere. 13. Yeah - that same caravan that Calhan was renting got rented out to STR the following summer, and I think it's been there since. STR is also a nice DZ - less cactus than Calhan, anyway Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  14. Usually, Chinese places are open on Christmas. Fa-ra-ra-ra-raaaa-ra-ra-ra-rah! Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  15. Very cool - it's nice to hang out with old friends. Make sure to fill up the time with all your skydiving video, 'cause otherwise they'll just show you pictures of their kids and family reunions. Last week, I met up in San Francisco with a friend from high school I hadn't seen in 16 years. Neither of us had good experiences in high school, but it was neat to see him doing so well now - he just finished a degree and has been married for 10 years - lost a lot of weight and stays pretty active. 16. The really, really cheap seats for KA were $100 each, so I declined. I'll see it next time. Also, zoomanity is not showing for a few weeks (don't know why). Some lady gave me free tickets to Ron White (her mother was sick), so I had some luck in Vegas. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  17. Saw Blue Man Group in Vegas earlier this year. Good show - you'll like it, but take a light jacket or sweater - the theater is chilly. "O" is still my favorite show there. I'll be in Vegas tomorrow for one day only. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  18. Hope you are having a great day! Good flying in the tunnel with ya. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  19. Yep, in rainy San Francisco. I'll be back home next week, then in Eloy for a month. Have I mentioned that I hate cold weather?? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  20. I feel that the tunnel advertisements (video) that say things like "it's safer than skydiving" may mislead people into thinking they are safe. They are not - the energy of that much rushing air is considerable. I was in the Vegas tunnel a few years ago, and one whuffo "neglected" to inform them that he had a dislocating shoulder, even after signing the medical form. The whuffo came down hard on the padding and his shoulder popped out. Tunnel stopped, whuffo ejected, more tunnel time for the rest of us. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  21. Hey Paige! Cool meeting you a few weeks ago in Orlando. Love the scar While we were there, we did stay at the Red Horse Inn. There is a discount there for tunnel flyers - if you call and tell them you're in the tunnel, they will give you a room for $35/night. I didn't think it was all that nice, personally - a little on the dirty side. Also, they blare old-style country music in the lobby, which annoyed the heck out of me. But the staff was friendly, it's walking distance and pretty cheap. Or maybe I'm just pissy 'cause the four skychicks I was with didn't invite me to stay in their room Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  22. Very nice, Kel! You deserve a new car, considering how hard you work. I hope it's treating you well. While we're bragging, I guess I should show you a couple of pics of my new car as well. I didn't want to get it all covered in snow like yours, so I drove it out to California. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  23. If Jeb kills himself trying, it will probably be eight years or more before anyone else attempts it. Hook, you may be putting your money on this one attempt - the eight years may be irrelevant. Hero - somebody that tries something incredibly stupid and succeeds. ------ fine line --------- Idiot - somebody that tries something incredibly stupid and fails. Personally, I think it's exciting that somebody's trying this. But I just can't see how the physics of it will allow for success (at least without a really good dose of luck). I vote for failure. 24. No one can guarantee what your husband's landing will be like - he might even bump his ankle hard on the way out of the plane. Your doctor probably has the best advice here. Personally, I always jump with ankle protection as a preventative measure (I hope). If your husband can jump off a chair seat and land safely on the ground, then his ankle is probably in good enough shape to land normally on a tandem. Edit - as far as weight, you will have to call the dropzones and find their upper weight limit. I've seen tandem passengers that weighed as much as 275 - I'm not saying it was right, but it was the decision of the T.I. and the dropzone. If he's under 250, you should be able to find a DZ that will take him. Best if he's under 220 though. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  25. 25 in steady ground winds. Unfortunately, Colorado doesn't have a lot of steady ground winds. Gusts to 15, but gusts bother me. Gusts can be under 15 right up until everyone is loaded, then jump to 23 or more when you're in the air. My wingload has decreased significantly in the past few months, so I'm realizing that strong uppers are a lot more work for me. I'm thinking about trying to limit uppers now, as well.
