  1. Check out the cover picture on the February edition of Skydiving Magazine
  2. not sure the exact number... but i think about 300 Holy fuc_, how does everybody jump this much in a year and still afford to eat. An instructor I can understand, but everyone must be selling dope, living at home, be supported by a chicky, or have increadibly good jobs, in which case there wouldn't be time to jump. What's the secret, because I want in
  3. Here's my $30 beauty. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
  4. I was looking for an open face helmet for those hot summer days, but after dropping $$ for a Z1 I couldn’t justify spending another $160+ to sit in my bag ½ of the time. I went to a Ski/Snowboard shop in late Spring and got a wicked good deal ($20) on a store demo helmet. An already made pocket for my Dytter, lots of Styrofoam (sp), comfort padding, and basic white shell. I got rid of all the snag points, filled the air vents over the ears with hot glue, sanded everything smooth and painted it to match my FF suit. All for less than $30. Works for me, and probably as much protection as a ProTec.
  5. I would have signed-up with them, but I'm recovering from arm surgery and won't be ready 'till the end of January. Thanks all for the input.
  6. I want to do some RW tunnel training this winter in FL. I plug "Tunnel Training" into Google and get so much info. that I'm in a dazed and confused state. At the same facility (Orlando) I find camps for: Space Land Anomaly, Tunnel Camp.com, Sky Venture, NSL, New School Flight University, etc.... So what's the deal? Do differint skydive training organizations/teams lease the facility so that it's their camp for the day (or two, or three..) Next question is very subjective.... Which sponsoring organization/team camp is better for learning the basics of RW. I don't want to end up in a camp with a bunch of RW "experts" (it's o.k. if the instrucors are experts) and be the one inexperienced flyer that holds anyone else back. Or do they schedule and match flyers by skill level? Oh shit, too many choices at which to throw my $$. Help would be appreciated.
  7. In the Soul Flyers movie there is video footage of a bridge jump where a parasail is draped over the bridge railing, at full line extension. The jumper is at this point above the canopy (standing on the bridge). The jumper then jumps out and makes a full front tumble so that he’s “in the saddle” at the point he’s below the canopy at nearly full line extension. The jumper is wearing what looks to be a huge backpack or container that appears to be stuffed full of something. What’s in the bag, some type of reserve system? Maybe lots of clean underwear?
  8. Note to self: Check with wife re: skychickies. Note from wife: re: castration, lawyer, sleep on street, etc.
  9. I'm in my early (cough, cough) 40's and just started jumping in 2002. After raising 4 kids it was time to do something for me. I'd be interested in knowing the following: Are the 40+ year old jumpers predominately made up of those who have been in the sport since late teens/20's, or are they late comers like me?
  10. I just got Soul Flyers DVD in the mail tonight
  11. So you're actually drawn up (like a vacuum cleaner)instead of being blown upward? Hmmm... Any difference? I've got just under 100 jumps and I am planning on doing some time in Feb or March as soon as I get over an arm injury. Anybody have tips on how to make the trip cheap as possible (cheapest airline, motel, food, etc.)
  12. Like he said, but don't forget to apply a primer. A good primer serves as the "glue" between the helmet material and the finish layers of paint. Good luck
  13. Try omniskore.com (I don't know to do the clicky thing). Then click on the IPC Dive Pool button.
  14. My question is.... If one line breaks and you simply release the opposite toggle, will the canopy fly straight? Or is there still enough tension on the "good" line, from the toggle reaching the stop ring on the riser, to keep the canopy in a turn?
  15. My last jump of the 2002 season was in the first week of November. The reported temp. at 13,500 was -27F. Add a 120 mph breeze and it's a bit nipply. Dressed in three thin layers (under jump suit), used a fleece neck gator and wind proof gloves from EMS. Only problem was my visor frosting completly over (kind of cool watching the frost move from bottom to top) which resulted in a high pull (6.5K). The visability in cold air and the snowy mountain views were fantastic. Wish I could do it this year but I'm grounded for at least five months with an arm injury shit, shit, shit.
  16. I clearly remember the waiver I signed the first night of AFF training. In part it read: "Don't bother trying to sue the DZ, the eqiupment manufacturer, the pilot, etc., because you'll never have enough money to hire a Lawyer as long as you continue to jump."
  17. It would be nice if it was back in the spring, but there was "stuff" between the owner and the DZ. None of my business, but not having an Otter at a busy weekend DZ really blows.
  18. Oh no. Is this the fate of our Skydive New England Otter. Looks like it's gone for good.
  19. Last winter (December) when I was bored and had an aching desire to spend money on something skydiving related I bought a couple of t-shirts on-line from a company called Caledonian (sp) Graphics. Can't seem to find them with Google, Yahoo, etc.. Anyone know if they're still in business or may have changed the business name?
  20. What do you use to play a .MOV file. I've tried Windows Media, Real One, and DivX
  21. I don't Know if I've just got the newbie jitters still, but I like the idea of a jump suit keeping my outer surface "clean", no loose stuff flapping around to cover handles. I have two suits and both have coudura (sp) on the knees and butt. I've had some good slides into home plate, and being covered up from head to toe with a helmet and a sturdy suit probably saved a few millimeters of skin each time. Shop the web for a suit. My latest was just over $200, including shipping from the other side of the world.
  22. On my first jump with my new Wings (w/BOC hackey, no fault of the container) I had a ticker skipper, although not as severe as yours. My old container sat a few inches lower on my back, so when I went for the first pull with the Wings I grabbed nothing but air. That made me a firm believer in the muscle memory theory. When I found it on the second grab I had a memory lag where I just didn't pull (delayed pull) for what seemed several seconds. My arm position felt really strange and I just couldn't make the pull as instinctively as I had in the past. I did however begin the process @6 grand because it was a new container and I had expectations of other things going wrong. So I had plenty of air below. But to the point, I agree that doing practice pulls with new equipment on a creeper would have been beneficial. I had done my hackey/handle touches standing on the ground and on my knees in the plane, but there was obviously a difference horizontal vs. vertical.
