  1. Agreed...can't sleep in my apartment complex without them. And Logitech wireless headphones for when I'm awake. OP, file a complaint with your town police or town office. Surely you're not the only one to complain. Attend a town meeting or get one started to address the issue. Ooh yeah! I know a lady here who is frequently disturbed by noise! Perhaps you could get in touch with her and get some pointers! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  2. Take a canopy course sooner rather than later. You'll need it for your B anyway and the skills you learn there could save your life at some point. Also go over pattern planning with an instructor until you're comfortable with it. You should get pattern planning as part of a canopy course, as well. Discuss where to hold prior to entering your pattern and where you'll be going for each leg of your pattern. If you plan to lose 500' of altitude on your downwind leg and 200' of altitude on your final, the length of your base leg is dictated by the starting altitude of the pattern. If you cross your target with 200' of altitude left to lose in your downwind, you should land at or before your target on your final. Assuming your base leg was the correct length. Math and physics are both hard mistresses. Always be prepared to PLF. If the PLF doesn't feel natural, practice it on the ground until it does. 3. Just explain in broken English that is local custom to offer newcomers, how you say, DELICIOUS SHEEP EYEBALL, from prizewinning sheep, and is horrible rude to refuse the delicacy... I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  4. It did not happen if there are no pictures.... especially for Remi... for the neoprene. You'll just have to wait for winter to roll around again! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  5. Nothing in the summer. In the winter, some neoprene socks I got to skydive with on cold days. If my feet are warm, the rest of me seems to stay warm too. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  6. I've drunk a LOT but never blacked out. Just a few times I wish I had. These days I try to keep my alcoholism dialed back to the bare minimum required not to have a frontal lobotomy (I'd rather have a bottle in front of me!) 7. I am planning on doing a training course ASAP. I am pretty much smack dab in the middle of 3 different DZ's as well as 3 different styles of training so I guess I just need to look over which one I think suits me best and do it. Free time is also going to be short here pretty soon for me as I have 3 houses to frame before the snow flies so I also have to see if it would be better just to wait until next spring to get started or try my hardest get 2-3 more jumps in this season. At the very least though, come hell or high water, I will get another tandem in this year. Yeah, in Idaho winter could be a bit of a problem. I jumped all winter in Colorado and we had some skydivers from Wyoming/Montana come visit to stay current. If you're sitting on a huge briefcase full of cash you could just go vacation in Phoenix or Orlando for a couple of weeks and get your A license knocked out. Or maybe just find an indoor skydiving facility near you and be a tunnel rat for the winter. I expect I'll be distinctly rat-like this year. Not being able to feel your fingers when you hit the ground is pretty unpleasant. D license friend of mine won't jump if it's below 50 on the ground. 8. Cool. Welcome to the sport and the forums! Are you planning to do a training course somewhere? I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  9. I've never seen a beer fridge at the dz's I go to in FL. Maybe that's because they have restaurants/bars? We don't have beer lights either. Hmmm, maybe there's a connection. Don't have beer lights?! Blasphemy! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  10. Yeah. When he gets close to the earth, he just roundhouse-kicks it to get it to stop! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  11. Click on "My Stuff" on the top right, then my profile. From there, there should be an "edit profile" button on that page that lets you change it. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  12. Yeah, I was pretty terrified for the first few jumps. Then I realized that the worst possible thing I could imagine was falling out of the plane early, that I was planning on falling out of the plane anyway and had a parachute on. I was also a bit worried about screwing up my AFF jump but once I started to build some skills I wasn't so worried about that either. I have all my wind tunnel video up on youtube, and you can see a pretty clear progression. Actually being able to see your skills improve with your own eyes makes a big difference, too. This is the first one I did, between my AFF levels 2 and 3. Here is a fairly recent one where I went down there with no objectives just to fly around in the tunnel and have a good time. I was completely relaxed that day, and being relaxed like that made a HUGE difference in my flying. The next time I went in there I was paying attention to the instructor again, and you can tell I'm a little more tense because of it. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  13. None of my whuffo friends have any idea how those things work. You could tell them you have to go to Hogwarts School of Magic to learn to safely land one and they'd believe you. So who want to try to get the Fox reporter to reprint that? I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  14. I just got a safire2 yesterday (1.1 to 1 wing loading,) It seems to have a lot more glide than I'm used to out of the rental gear I'd been jumping, and some really sweet openings. It also seems plenty agile to me, though I've only been jumping rental gear until now and don't consider myself to be an aggressive canopy pilot. I've flown a sabre 2 rental canopy as well and it is fun to fly, but I've had some pretty brutal openings with it. Oddly they both seem to be about equally as snivelly to me. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  15. Don't forget to supplement with pop tarts occasionally. If you don't get the extra vitamin C, you can get scurvy!* * Statement not evaluated by the FDA I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  16. Goat's tasty and delicious! I got some ribs from the guy at the farmer's market and made goad chili last week. It was really good! I need to see if I can get the goat equivalent of a chuck roast from him without having to buy a whole freaking leg, though. I don't have freezer space for random body parts. I live about 10 minutes from my home DZ and can always go home over lunch. Or get a hot dog from the hot dog lady who shows up on the weekends. If there was someplace out of the way with a power outlet, I could make a batch of chili (red or green, not goat) in my crock pot, bring it to the DZ and leave it plugged in all day for everyone. I'm pretty sure it'd be gone by the end of the day! I took in some pork green chili in a container one time and a couple of the guys who tried it have been after me to bring some more in. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  17. He's just this guy, you know? I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

    Suck

That's just life man, patience and fortitude will see you through. Maybe get some tunnel time in when you can if you have one nearby. That at least doesn't require thousands of dollars of gear, and is less expensive per-minute than freefall. At some point you'll find yourself in a position to start skydiving again, if you don't let these rough times drive you crazy. Wish I could offer something more helpful, but the times aren't pretty for a lot of people these days. Just build your life on a solid foundation and the rest will follow. 19. It matters to you, and that's the most important person. Glad to hear you worked your way through it. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

  21. I'd have gone with the boots... I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  22. No! Don't jump off the bridge! Choose life! Or at least holler "look out below!" before you go! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  23. It was pretty simple, really. I lost all desire for intercourse with females when they started carrying those briefcases and wearing suits 'n ties. Let's face it, that would be like fucking a slightly more voluptuous version of somebody's father! I'm far too sensitive for such a traumatic experience! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  24. You got like 25 seconds to screw around and pull at 4k. loads of time for "epic flips" Jumping from a non-turbo 206 at altitude means i have lower standards than you lucky turbine dropzone folks for what is a normal exit altitude Yeah but I had other objectives I also wanted to work on for the jump. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  25. You just breathe and go to your happy place or whatever works for you. I found making multiple jumps in one day helps -- you remember more and are less tense on the second and third jump. As you said it is expensive. Maybe put your skydiving budget in savings until you can afford to pay for the entire series of training jumps up front. Also if you have a vertical wind tunnel nearby, those are a good way to learn to fly your body and are way less expensive per minute than AFF. It's still pricey, but if tunnel time prevents you from having to repeat an AFF level or two, it's probably worth it. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind.
