Personal experience? Logic. Smaller canopies have shorter lines. Sorry, I meant can you describe your personal experience of this. I haven't jumped the same model of canopy more than 1 size apart (KA135 to KA120) and the difference to me was not that great - except for opening characteristics. Did you have a bigger Katana before your 135? Oh ok sorry that I misunderstood.

Just keep in mind: Example: A katana 170 loaded at 1.3 will not be the same as a katana 135 loaded at 1.3

I appreciate all of your answers. Andy, there is not much chance that word trickles to him as I live in a french region and not many (or any) of the people at the dropzone use dz.com. Dave, Doug, and rehmwa: I've been thrown a bit of a curveball. There was an issue at the DZ last week between myself and this TI (unrelated to the original post) that was mediated by the DZO. I feel that if I now bring the original issue to the DZO's attention; I will have less credibility and it will seem I am doing so out of spite. However, it was brought to my attention that I am not the only one who has witnessed this kind of behavior from the TI. I am thinking I should ask the other person(s) whether or not they are willing to corroborate the story if I bring the issue to the DZO. What are your opinions? Keep the slider at the stops, prevent an out of sequence deployment, and slow down the opening "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts

Bad idea. Continue to use rental gear until you have more exposure to the sport and a better idea of what your personal goals are. It'll give you a better chance at getting the right tools for the job. I'd say an A or B license (25-50 jumps) is a good point to start to consider buying gear. It is a good thing that you are doing research, but be patient when it comes to such a big investment! Blue skies!

Escape artist faces coffin skydive at 14,500 feet

This. Entirely out of context. And that is where the quote came from, I saw the why we jump clip recirculating in my facebook feed again this morning. You guys seriously misunderstood me! Sorry, I am in no means insinuating that this topic is what Pablito meant when he made that statement! I'm saying that after hearing that and having some deep internal discussions I came across this topic and found my answer to it, I'm curious what other people's answers are to it as well. (My question, not Pablito's). Sorry for the misunderstanding

Are you aware that LiquidSky just recently cut their lead time in half? I have nothing but good things to say about them, absolutely love my suit! "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts

Your from Canada ya freaking canook, you go preach some where else. I don't appreciate your claims that these type of incidents are prevelant in the USA. Well, considering your climate in cnookada, I can see where it could happen more here than where you live. Talk about ignorant...go preach somewhere else Ya Jerk. You're totally incoherent in your personal attack, kind of hard to follow. I'm not sure which incidents you're referring to...? Yes, when I turn 65. Probably a very nice scenic base, with pure ground rush, and no rig. Would be sad though not to jump untill then. This would be similar to my answer

BS Question, meritless and calls for speculation. ***No. There is life off of a DZ. I am not suicidal, and that is what your request would require. Regarding his question, it's pointless. We all know the next jump may be the last. So I'm calling BS on this ignorant question. I mean if you knew the next time you crossed the street, would you do it, or would you stay home the rest of your life? And besides, if you died sky diving, "Suicide" would be the cause of death. I had my life insurance policy canceled because of this. Best- Richard Talk about ignorant... go preach somewhere else. I'm expecting some negative comments to arise from this question but my curiousity needs to be satisfied. If you knew for sure that your next jump would be your last (i.e. fatal accident) would you jump? And if so, when? Purely hypothetical based on a lot of thinking after hearing the following quote from Pablito Perrazoli "If this was the last one, is this the right one? And the answer is always yes." Curious to hear some opinions! "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way." -Alan Watts

Gym training for skydiving, base jumping and wingsuiting.
DcloudZ replied to Talldarknkiwi's topic in Safety and Training
Skydiving: Freefall: Yoga, Lower back, Core, Flexibility Canopy: Yoga, Shoulders, Back, Arms Tandem: Yoga, Arms, Shoulders, Legs, Cardio, Flexibility Base jumping: Yoga, Core, Legs, Cardio, Flexibility (A lot of people forget that to jump off of a mountain, you generally have to climb up it legs and cardio will be a HUGE help). Wingsuiting: Yoga, Core, Arms, Shoulders, Flexibility -
Yup I'll freely admit that I don't call people out on stuff enough. I let too much slide, I feel that as someone who started skydiving just a year ago I'm in no place to go around telling other people people what to do or shoving my opinion down their throat. Perhaps in some situations, it is a good thing. But definitely not in this one. Need an advice for the full face helmet
DcloudZ replied to SFBayArea's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm going to parrot what many others have said and suggest that you go with a Cookie G3; great helmet overall. I'm very pleased with it! -
I dropped the ball on that one then. Feedback should be specific and immediate; I think it's too far out of his mind that talking to him about it now would do more harm than good. While it's nice to be curious about these things, as pointed out by the above post; it takes 3 years and 500 jumps to get your tandem rating. All of the questions you've asked will be answered on your journey to meeting those requirements anyways.

The problem is that I consider this TM a good friend of mine and he's normally a great guy; that's why I said it was just out of character for him. I don't know if I would be able to tell the DZO about the incident... Especially now that it's been about a month. Comments concerning a Canopy Licensing System
DcloudZ replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You'll also learn to master the skills acquired in 1st grade by spending 2 years there instead of 1. That doesn't make it the best path for every single person. Just because it can be done doesn't mean you should force everyone to do it. Education is the path to elightenment here. Stop TELLING people what to do and start TEACHING people what to do. Then it's up to them to apply that knowledge. You're not their keeper. Bluhdow for president! Well said -
Comments concerning a Canopy Licensing System
DcloudZ replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm in favor of a canopy licensing program as long as it's not generic. Encouraging people to take canopy courses is a good thing. But holding people back from flying canopies that they're capable of just because others are not capable doesn't make much sense. There isn't a one size fits all answer for this issue.
