Ya know, often times, it's hard being a Marine, when you realize the inferiority of pretty much the rest of humanity especially all those poor folks who join the army, navy and airforce for "the GI bill" and "money for college." Travel and adventure, my ass. I joined because I wanted to be the first kid on my block with a confirmed kill. there are plenty of kids in our inner cities with plenty of confirmed kills. He has issues and I don't have a heart. And Marines are better than soliders. And Saddam has hidden his weapons of mass destruction so well than none can be found in Iraq. Can anyone tell me why I should care more than the politicians and thier advising generals who sent the kid out there in the first place? If all you fine Tic Tok'ers (and I mean generally war supporters as a group) were not so trigger happy, if all you would let the administration know that the popular vote goes against the conflict then all you fine mourning humans would not have to mourn the fallen "warrior" You fine humans have what you wanted. I completely agree on the sadness of the death of one. However I am not as optimistic on the reaction of the public in case of a larger conflict. The public has been spoiled by the last two wars. When the real need is there it might back out. That is what worries me. As to the kid who died - real sad. As to the text - I still believe it is complete propaganda. Very bad indeed. It could be used as a text in the Volkischer Beobachter with regards to a fallen hero coming back from Stalingrad. My fine friend you are entirely right. I care about all this as much as the fine Generals of our armed forces do. It's all a statistic. I don't care about statistics. Scott I do not mourn every fallen solider, but there is nothing wrong with that. On other hand it is my oppinion that the general public has fallen into a media induced frenzy not very far from what Joe McCarthy used to preach. The text here is in fact a skillful piece of propaganda. Very similar to Nazi or Soviet pieces. On another note, don't you think that feeding this frenzy will render our nation incapable of leading a war where soldiers die like flies every day? We are sheding crockodile tears over less than 100 dead. What will the public say when one of these days the body count will be in the 100's per hour? One has to admitt that the Iraquis were a little less than enthusiastic to fight and the topografical circumstances were rather favorable to us - big flat open country with no trees. jraf Me Jungleman! Sorry guys, but you sound like characters from Soviet cold war cartoons. The kid is dead, the reason why he died is not clear to me. He was not a warrior he was a soldier. He died doing his job - sad fact of life. Sometimes being patriotic takes long term vision. Sometimes it is more patriotic to think on your own and make your own conclusions. So much for that. Am I cynical? As hell, and feel good about it. And I don't expect to be mourned after I buy it. Bullseye Dave - that is what I was aiming at. It's all about economic interests. Nobody in the White House gives didley squat about Iraqui freedom. Neither do I.
