Skydiving bullies. Put up your hand.
obelixtim replied to obelixtim's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Bullies, Skygods, Ego Titans, Wolves, Delusional Asshole. Guilty as charged. Trying to keep people safe on the DZ, by any method, including use of harsh words, that sensitive types can't tolerate because their feelings are hurt. Am I the only one?. I disagree. The people who don't post on here but PM me agreeing with me, seem to outnumber the few who refuse to see the real point of why we post, instead whining about a bit of blunt talk about how we who run DZ's see things. But you are still welcome to show up at the DZ's we run and enjoy ourselves. Just remember that others are working hard to keep you and your mates safe. And that NEVER stops, not even when jumping stops for the day. I hope you can help us keep everyone safe. You do have a part to play. Not my words. An early report on our friend Sangi. I'm sure the titan that saved his life while he lay smashed on the DZ was able to usefully draw on his monstrous ego to keep Sangi alive till the meatwagon arrived... You want more? Go to the swooping forum, and read the thread entitled "Post your hot swoop X Rays". It is a quite graphic read of the consequences of screwing up a HP landing, in the words of the individuals involved. If you can handle it. Then come back on here and tell us titans with massive egos that we are out of line. Lets see....wolves, skygods, egocentric titans, delusional bullies.... Who would have thought we really are such nasty, horrible, people.... Yet to see any really constructive/useful comments about alternative ways to solve the problem of senseless death and injury on the DZ's all of us use. How about it?. I'm not talking internet fairy world here, I'm talking the real world, you know,, dropzones, where people live, or can die for a variety of reasons. And where you see animosity, I see people attemptng to get across a message that is necessary, however it is worded. The only delusions here come from people who think staying silent, and a mealy mouthed, peace, love and mung beans approach is somehow going to make the problem go away. I'm not expecting my posts to change the mind of a single bonehead....they don't work that way, unfortunately. For them. My opinions are aimed at others who might just see the message, and think seriously about it, and better still, decide to get involved with solving the problem, whichever method they choose.. Asking the many lurkers in here to give voice to the message, might, in the long term, help change the live and let die culture that blights our sport. Because in reality, the problem cannot be solved by the few people prepared to take responsibility for the safety of others, the most powerfull message will only come if everyone gets involved and clearly spells out what is, and what isn't acceptable. LONG, LOUD and CLEAR. How long do you think the people who run DZ's are going to be willing to take responsibility for the lives of others?. Its difficult enough as it is, without allowing the jackasses to run amok. It gets rather wearying when the line of jackasses just keeps on coming. Same modus operandi, over and over and over. The sense of humour tends to wear a little thin after a while. Without those dedicated individuals who are willing to look after the lives of others, you have no skydiving at all. Do you think its easy to deal with serious injury or smashed up bodies??...because thats what some of us have to do. THATS reality, no delusion there. We have to use any method that works. And if a few egos, and idiots get trampled on to make that happen, then its a cheap price to pay. Next time someone splashes themself down on the planet, please offer your assistance to the clean up crew. Then you may begin to understand why, in your world, they suffer from "delusions". Don't shoot the messenger, until you've walked in his shoes. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing.... -

What planet are people living on here?. Get real!!!. I've already said its not tiddleywinks we are playing here. This issue is DEADLY serious, and handwringing and bleating about "bullying" a knuckle head really gets my goat. Save your compassion, and go visit some of the para and quadriplegics who will never skydive or live a normal life again....because there are quite a few out there. The lucky ones prolly got buried. The others will regret till the end of their now miserable lives they didn't take notice of the warnings, advice and cautions they were given. "Please don't do that" just doesn't work with these guys.. Something more forceful can, and often does. I've used it to good effect several times. And if it doesn't, they can never say they weren't clearly warned. Obviously it seems to you that people get some sort of pleasure out of trying to keep people safe. I can assure you it is not a pleasant or nice job....we are skydivers too, and would much rather be skydiving and enjoying ourselves, rather than chasing boneheads around trying to save them from themselves, loading ambulances and scraping bodies up. Its a rotten, usually thankless job, I can tell you. And if someones feelings get hurt when they pull stupid shit and cop a blast, well, tough!!. They got off lightly, in my book. As long as we've got people acting as apologists for this nonsense, then we'll never get on top of the problem. Thats a huge part of the problem IMO, We aren't sociologists here. Everyone needs to grow up and take ownership of the sport, instead of validating stupidity. And no, they won't be gone from DZ.com at all. They'll be featuring in the Incidents thread instead. Of course, then us bullies and wolves will be getting told off for daring to call them stupid, after the fact. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing.... -

Well there is more than one way to skin a cat...... Part of the OP's public call was to warn other DZ's about this guy. Considering that they are the ones who will have to deal with the risk (and possible consequences) posed by such an individual, to themselves AND others, I think thats a fair enough call. As a DZO I appreciate any heads up given, however it comes to me. This sport can be pretty brutal in reality. I see a bit of public criticism as small beer in comparison. And if you'll note, some of these "wolves" were quick AND generous in their public praise of this guy when he posted that he was going to do the right thing. Maybe I'm the only one, but somehow his later actions seemed to make me doubtful as to his sincerity. I've run across enough bullshitters in our sport over the years to make me a little wary of accepting things at face value. But thats just me....and I make NO apologies for that. I've learnt that pussyfooting around, generally, is not a particularly effective way to solve serious issues. Whatever has an effect, is fine by me. Defence for the Wolves wish to speak, your honour. I'll happily put my hand up as a wolf..... Nothing has been said for the last 20 years as the body and cripple count has piled up. The see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil policy seems not to work. Good advice is given, to everyone who wants to learn to fly safely. and is freely available. Canopy courses are available to all. There are plenty of examples of people who didn't make it for whatever reason. Basic safety and common sense shouldn't be rocket science.... Yet despite all this, the message isn't getting thru to some people. This "witch hunt" might not work for some, but maybe, just maybe, it will work to deter, or at least make someone else think twice, before pounding themselves, or worse, someone else, into the ground. Its time for everyone to start saying NO! to these individuals, and it might start to have some effect, just as it did back in the day when low dumping eventually became uncool. Standing by and just silently accepting foolish behaviour on our DZ's isn't good enough anymore. Do you have any additional/alternative suggestions that might be effective on these guys John?. Hmmmm. I smell something fishy...and it ain't fish. As you say, who takes down their jump numbers, and why?. After his last post I speculated that he might have sold everyone a dummy, with his claim of putting his velo on the shelf. Now I strongly suspect he did post that in an attempt to take a bit of the heat off. If that is the case he is still a DGIT. I notice he also removed the post about how safe and careful he really is. Too bad it was already quoted... His Utube videos have disappeared as well. Ultimately, he is only fooling himself.... I hope no one accords him sympathy after his inevitable impact with the planet.... Sangi Mk 2...... My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing.... -

Uh oh........ I hope you are taking the piss here. We've never met you, sure, but we know a lot about you, from the evidence you yourself have posted on Utube. It doesn't take much to recognise inexperience/overconfidence/a DGIT when we see it... You were given credit for posting that you had listened to the advice you were given. Following this post, if you were serious , I'm wondering if you have simply sold everyone a dummy. For your sake, I hope you were joking here.... Most of the posters who were slagging you off weren't born yesterday, and we've seen many like you come and go....the lucky ???? ones in a wheelchair, others in a pine box. Arrogance and stupidity isn't always a common factor in accidents, but certain people do fit the template. Oh yeah, would you like to tell us what you've replaced the velo with. Amy, no one is immune from death in this sport, its something we are well aware of and sadly well acquainted with. Over the years we've made it pretty safe for newbies like you...newbies used to feature a lot in incident reports, now not so much. Daves response may seem arrogant to you, but believe me it comes from simple weariness from seeing people who try to go too far too fast and who crash and burn. Dave and the others you see on here are the one who have to pick up the pieces when people crash and burn, and I can tell you its not a nice thing to have to do. We tend to get a bit blunt about it. If you are around long enough, and mess up through stupidity, someone will likely give you a blasting. It happens to everyone sooner or later. You need to be able to handle a bit of blunt, to the point talk. This isn't tiddleywinks we play. You can die, easily and quickly, and it might not even be your fault. Sit back, listen, and learn.... Daves comment was aimed at someone with 300 odd jumps who shouldn't need to be looking at his altimeter so often. He thinks it indicates that the jumper is not quite as capable as he thinks he is, especially if he is jumping a canopy that is too hot for him to handle. At your stage you are doing it right. Keep it up. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing.... -
Just don't get caught out focusing on the line twist. Its easy to do that. Check the canopy first, if you have a problem the line twist becomes irrelevant. And yes I've seen people focus on the twist to the point that they didn't check the canopy properly, then after wasting lots of altitude, realising they had a malfunction and chopping at AAD height. OK. For a start, 206's ARE tricky to do a good exit from on SL.. .And internet coaching isn't easy. In this case, the step is part of the problem. Its way too big and is forcing your feet into an unnatural position. You have a problem which is not all of your own making. The key to the whole thing is your left hand. Put it down on the doorsill, and prepare to use it in the same way you would vaulting a fence, with one hand on top of the post. You need to launch yourself off your left hand. Hang your legs back as far as they will go keeping them OFF the step. Get that left hand hard down on the door sill, ready to launch yourself sideways into the prop blast. Swivel your body sideways so you are facing as far forward as you can get, you should be sitting on the edge of your left bum cheek. Chest into the prop blast. Get your head back as far as you can (you should be looking at the top corner of the door sill,) Arch your chest and belly as much as you can so you are in as good a body position as possible, while still in the door....leaning forwards, pushing your legs back will help.. On the "go", punch yourself out sideways into the prop blast, at the same time snapping into that arch. You have to be really aggressive with the push from your left hand, as I said, imagine vaulting a fence with your left hand on the top of a post. You have to be aggressive to miss that step. Normally this works fine from a 206, in this case you'll have to be super aggresive to clear that step, which is the problem. I think that step makes the plane totally unsuitable for SL exits. Its way too big. We had a normal step on ours, and SL students kept their feet off it. That one you have makes it tricky. I'd be surprised if many students do good SL exits from it, if any. I bet the average number of jumps before being cleared for FF is way above the average using that plane, which should be 5 or 6 at most. Tell your instructors that I said to take that step off. Its causing unstable exits, I guarantee not just for you. And that can lead to problems. ( Don't be surprised if they absolutely refuse to remove that step, that would be an admission they got it wrong. It is OK for other jumpers, just not SL) And practise your exits on the ground, lots. Its free. Going from your sitting position, to snapping into that arch. Good luck.... My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....

I take it you'll have no problem personally scraping the next Whizzkid up off the ground and filling in the divots. Your attitude is exactly why the situation has got where it has today. New to skydiving-where to do a tandem in Germany?
obelixtim replied to yongcong's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Leutkirch, about 80 kilometers south of Ulm. Skydive Nuggets, normally do a 4000m tandem for 210 Euro, Big DZ with solo training as well. Do a google search for Skydive Nuggets, Leutkirch and you should find their website. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
