Hey everyone. Looked up this place on the Dropzone section and a search on the forum, and there doesn't look to be any information on dz.com whatsoever about it. Only info is the basic stuff on the dropzone page. Has anyone jumped this place? looks to be closer to where I'm moving to in the Denver area than mile-hi, and looks to be a smaller DZ overall (doing my training in cessna dz). Is there a strong fun jumper vibe there or just a mostly tandem spot? http://independentskydivecompany.com/ Oh look, I finally got that clicky right! Thanks for the help -
This is bad ass...

Scientology Escapees Katie and Suri Cruise
FreefallSnoopy replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
I read a book called "Inside Scientology" a few months back. Disturbing the information that it presents to the reader, as well as the general disregard for human life that the upper echelon of the religion has. There was a loss of life due to a psychotic breakdown and subsequent attempts to hide this fact, as well as many accounts of psychotic breaks among the "clear" in the religion. Scary, scary stuff http://www.lisamcpherson.org -
It seems silly, and after not getting any search results for this question I've gotta ask: Is it bad to take an altimeter on a regular commercial airline flight? The marine engineer in me thinks that maybe altimeters are designed to go to 12k and not much more, thus taking it to 30-35k could possibly damage an altimeter. Then again, logic would seem to dictate that with all the people who travel with their rigs and gear, its unlikely that this is an issue. Sorry if this is a dumb one or has been covered recently, just been wondering for a few days now. Thanks

Jumping with objects in freefall (e.g. flag, bandana..)
FreefallSnoopy replied to sunkenstate's topic in Safety and Training
I saw a video of someone jumping with an inflatable. While I'm really not interested in doing this, it seemed dangerous. In the video the inflatable animal was in the harness and it seemed that the jumper had a hard time staying on top of it. Anything to note about jumping with that kinda thing? -
Newbie DZ/Instructor questions?
FreefallSnoopy replied to doubleplay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I did my training at The Jumping Place in St. Mary's GA. Podunk town, but 3 instructors. They all love to teach and really spend time with you on the dive plan and how to pass your levels. I only had 2 instructors with me for the entire AFF course, alternating on who was available from tandem to go up with me. The fun jumpers that rotate through there can be very helpful too. I had 2 individuals make jumps with me for A license check offs and didn't even expect me to pay for their lift tickets! (though next time I can get in, I definitely will buy them a couple). Just a heads up though, being a smaller DZ you sometimes hafta fight to get on manifest with those 182's. -

I know the feeling. even at only 20 jumps I feel like I only got a taste before I got dragged back to work overseas. Now I spend most of my days watching videos or reading posts or doing imaginary jumps so that I can get that rush again. Luckily for me, just a few more weeks til I can get myself back in the plane , well outta the plane Also, I believe I'm running out of youtube videos. Already saw the one you posted. Blue Skies -

Wow, the video really makes it quite clear how bad that was doesn't it ha. Glad you made it outta that one. But for future reference, maybe you can learn to do that on purpose, would be a pretty cool move haha

Skydiving and motorcycle riding
FreefallSnoopy replied to FreefallSnoopy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm about to possibly make a long distance ride and wanted to bring my rig with me. Has anyone ever done this before? Or regularly made the ride to the DZ on their bike? How do you secure your rig, or do you have saddlebags big enough to fit it in? Thanks for the help -
Well I can fall pretty good
FreefallSnoopy replied to FreefallSnoopy's topic in Introductions and Greets
Yeah, Should be there sometime mid August I think? Headed to Sturgis, but hopefully my rig will fit in the saddlebags! Can't wait to get back stateside and start jumpin again! -
First tandem jump leads to serious addiction!
FreefallSnoopy replied to flaming0duckie's topic in Introductions and Greets
I never did a tandem, but on my first AFF jump, I could hardly even think to look at my altimeter let alone think about something else! Must be a natural -

Ah yeah, Jaime, I could see where you think that. Nope I'm a reservist through and through, just work in the merchant marine. I'll definitely find you when I get out there, thinking that I might just head out there in early July to look around (won't have any of my gear) or early August (I'll have my gear with me). Be nice to have another newbie to jump with Jeff -

Thanks! I'm hoping to get into some bigger damn planes soon. Probably headed out to Colorado and Mile-Hi before too long, so they have a few bigger planes for my tall ass! -
Cool, I kinda figured all of that and I've done different things on the few jumps I've had. No one went over any of that in the ground school or AFF stuff, but I guess getting canopy overhead and how to move yourself under canopy are the major points in that respect. Thanks!

Otherwise I'm just learning... I'm not the worst skydiver ever but I think I'm ahead of most of the curve. Also, I'm in quite a different situation than most. I have a kick ass job, lets me pay the skydiving bills easily (I'm that new guy with all the new shit, lol. but in my defense, I'm 6'7" and finding used containers and jumpsuits to fit me is just unlikely) but I also have to spend half the year on a ship, 3 months at a time. So I got to 20 jumps before I got called back early, so unfortunately didn't finish out my A card. Being away though just makes me wanna jump more, and reading a lot of these forum threads lets me try and understand more about the sport and where I wanna head with it. The funny thing is, that I'm interested in a lot of the disciplines that there are, from wingsuiting to freeflying to BASE. I guess there's plenty of time for it all, and no need to tell me to belly fly for a while, I've seen it countless times in the threads. I'm gonna get good at some stuff then take off for work again haha. Anyways, if anyone is gonna be at TJP in St. Mary's this summer, I hope you won't mind me crowding the 182! -
What is the typical arm position post-deployment? I typically put both arms straight up to catch the risers, but is that what most people do? And is there a "proper" hand/arm position post deployment? Obviously other than just back to a box/arch position... thanks

I've got a couple pairs of SORZ goggles, they're nice because of the padding, but I've got the strap almost all the way tight to prevent losing my contacts. Only time I've noticed my contacts do much of anything is in a track and even then just a blink will resolve any issues.

6'10" 244lbs - new aspiring bird seeks guidance
FreefallSnoopy replied to Petite's topic in Wing Suit Flying
DAMMMMNNNNN... Glad someone else already asked this question, I'm right there at the same weight, just a few inches shorter (6'7")... Lemme know how it goes for you, pretty sure wingsuit is where I'm headed. And at least I know someone else is always glad to wear a helmet, if it only is useful in the plane!
