Dude, Dress sharp! Like the others say it depends on the situation, call and ask somebody, I've seen full on formal at a DZ and Tye-Dye in a church(everyone was wearing some sort of tye-dye) Weddings, funerals and such are special occasions and I prefer to dress as sharp as possible, looking sharp is a form of respect to your host. Aw heck, you have until 14:00 to be at work, how far are you from work? No exscuses now, a real diehard jumper would camp over the night before and be pushing the pilot and a couple other jumper into the plane at the crack of dawn. You should still be able to get 3 or 4 loads before going to work. Thats sucks bro, goodluck. Where theres a will, theres a way. I think we can agree that practically no AFF students would make it to solo with such problems. And this woman should never gotten to solo thru Static Line either with such, the blame lays with her Instructors/JM's, the DZ and herself. The Jm's, I's and the DZ are at fault for such poor training and signing her off, they should IMO stripped of their credentials for signing off such a student, She is at fault for not having the responsibility to address the problems while under their tutelage and demand further training to correct her deficiencies. A few AFF jumps? All the poor woman needed was a JM&I in the air with her, which she should have had in the later stages off her training. I don't have a SIM's handy but don't you have to show the ability to exit, maintain stability, heading, controlled turns, hookup with a JM&I (basic RW) and ect.... Before being signed off? I know I did. I think AFF would be overkill and a waste of money, IMO, All she needed was some coaching. I agree she was not safe and shouldn't been off student status. The DZ she trained at is to blame mostly, its really a shame that some places are so eager to make the money and pass the student that they turn loose jumpers who are a danger to themselves and others. Alas, I just don't agree with that statement, students regardless of training method pretty much must acquire and demonstrate the same skills in order to graduate to solo. I acknowledge that some students slip thru the cracks and others are turned out by DZ's without a conscience. Some students regardless of training style come out with problems, most are easily corrected by more experienced jumpers who are willing to jump with them or by coaches. But I do not see this lackluster performance in the majority of Static Line students that I've encountered and I love jumping with newbies, its so awesome to see the looks on their face when something clicks or their just having a blast. Anything different about a Helicopter jump?
ChileRelleno replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Pretty similar to balloon jumps but noisier, better spots and usually cheaper. Being prepared means bringing lots of money, cause you'll want to jump it again and again and again.......... Typicaly you'll receive a quick briefing before boarding about seatbelts, exit order and keeping the aircraft balanced (especially on smaller copters). Exits are usually done simultaneously from both sides of the copter in balanced groups 2,4 ect... And you will usually exit from the skid facing in holding onto either your refastened seatbelt or the door frame to facilitate balanced exit. Awareness of others at breakoff is essential. Helicopter jumps ROCK! ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868 -

Being a trucker I get to see alot of interesting stuff on our highways and byways. One of my favorites is when the weather has been less than favorable and some smokey decides to flip around in median (do a u-turn) and gets stuck in the mud, snow or whatever. you see them either just sitting there all perturbed or talking to one their buddies and I just have to laugh. Helicopter jumps ROCK! If its Crosskeys copter you'll get 5000 or a little less, you exit off the skids while in a hover, very little or no forward airspeed. Very similar to a Balloon jump but with lots of noise, it is a dead air exit, no relative wind with which to work. Watched one of my Bros flail like a fish out of water, hilarious. We had the copter last year at our Mardi Gras Boogie and I jumped the heck out of it! If Rod ever flies his Bell 412 (used to fly at WFFC) again for jumpers and you get the chance to ride it, DO SO! The aerobatic joyride is worth every penny by itself. Helicopter jumps ROCK! ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868

When I decided that I had to live my dream it was a matter of pride and finance as to whether I did AFF or Static Line. I went Static because of money and because I was a cocky little SOB who thought "If I can't do this without someone holding onto to me then I don't need to be here." On my second 10 sec delay I intentionally did a left 90 and back to heading, I thought it seemed to easy from the instructional manual and what my instructors had shown me, it was too easy. I got chewed for not following the diveplan, but I progressed very rapidly from there, I'd say "I want to try this" and they'd say "OK". Some times my cockiness got the better of me and I've some great memories. AFF, Static Line, Tandem, IAD or whatever.... They are all good progression methods, you just need to figure what you think is best for you and your wallet. One is not necassarily faster than the other nor safer, if your a flailer it takes longer, if your a natural... As to advantages and disadvantages, talk to your prospective instructors and your brother and sister. Remember what seems advantageous to one may not to another, it needs to fit your learning style.
