After reading this new story, I was thinking, a really poor evening for me would start with "Hi Officer, my name is Freek and the reason that I am naked and covered in orange paint is..." Tami, You have to understand that sharks actually are a little concerned about us. To them, you are another 5-foot animal. A 5-foot shark doesn't want to get into an even fight. Injuries mean death in the animal world. There is no walk-in clinics for sharks. Animals want smaller or wounded prey. It may take a while before you actually ever see a shark. Barracuda will back up if you approach them (no jewelry, they like that). Don't grab the eels, they do bite. Scuba is very relaxing and peaceful. Like a walk at Cypress Gardens except quieter and under 30 ft of water. Very beautiful. Enjoy.

FOND FAREWELL A man was standing on a train platform seeing the train off, and he observed someone near him shouting at one of the departing passengers, "Goodbye. Your wife was a great lay! Your wife was a great lay!" The man was stunned. After the train pulled away, he walked over to the man who'd done the shouting and asked, "Did I hear you correctly? Did you tell that man his wife was a great lay?" The other man shrugged his shoulders. "It isn't really true," he said, "but I didn’t want to hurt his feelings."

"... the most safety conscious skydiver " Landing a canopy in a safe fashion has always been a constant topic with Martin. This just goes to show that you can do everything right and the law of averages will reach out and smack you. He already had kind of a limp, so this is going to be tough. Best wishes.

I read a book on humor by Isaac Asimov. He did an analysis on why things are funny. He also suggested that there are other reasons. One reason is surprise, that little twist at the end. Example - many lightbulb jokes. How many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb ? Only one, but it has to want to change.

Sorry, don't want to jinx anyone. As a fellow old fart, he's probably surprised that I'm here. My last jump with Scotty, we broke a round into a line and watched the sunset. The staged breakoff worked out weird and there was a lot of adrenaline pumping in the landing area. Good times.

"... why it is any more RIGHT" I've answered this repeatedly. I'm not talking about right/wrong. Even if they have a GREAT reason, they can stay home and bitch about it. If they attack the US, they die, problem solved. Morality is not an issue. I don't care if the Pope thinks it's a good idea. It is all about self-defense. If you have a problem with US policy/lifestyles/morality, stay home in your cave and whine to your mullah. "Why? because they killed US citizens?' Yep. "Does your arguement NOT hold true to justify another attack on US citizens" If we had flattened them after the van bombing in '95, we wouldn't be having this discussion. If we had retaliated then and killed 50,000 Afghans, it would have saved 3,000 innocent Americans. Good example. I have no problem with that. If we did it effectively now, they wouldn't do it in the future and none of their friends would think it was a good idea. Thus, saving future battles and casualties. Peace through superior firepower.

Old ? Geez, I'm just was surprised he's still alive.

HOW MUCH A woman takes a lover during the day, while her husband is at work. Unbeknownst to her, her nine-year-old son was hiding in the closet. Her husband comes home unexpectedly, so she puts the lover in the closet with the little boy. The little boy says, "Dark in here." The man says, "Yes it is." "I have a baseball," says the boy. The man replies, "That's nice." "Want to buy it?" asks the kid. The man says, "No, thanks." The boy says, "My dad's outside." The man finally says, "OK, how much?" The boy thinks and says, "$250." In the next few weeks, it happens again that the boy and the mother's lover are in the closet together. The boy says, "Dark in here." "Yes, it is," says the man. The boy now says, "I have a baseball glove." The lover, remembering the last time, asks, "How much?" The boy says, "$750." The man agrees. A few days later, the kid’s dad says to the boy, "Grab your glove. Let's go outside and toss the baseball back and forth." The boy says, "I can't. I sold them." The father asks, "How much did you sell them for?" The son says "$1,000." The father says, "That's terrible to overcharge your friends like that. That’s far more than they cost. I'm going to take you to church and make you confess." They go to church and the dad makes the little boy sit in the confession booth and he closes the door. The boy says, "Dark in here." The priest says, "Don't start that crap again.

"the moral reasons" Their "moral" reasons to bomb our country: We educate women beyond high-school level, drinking alchohol, mixed-sex dancing. How do you define who is more moral ? If you want to set yourself up as moral arbiter to the universe, go ahead. My point is this, if you disagree, write the New York Times, but killing 3,000 people because of your "moral" disagreement makes you "wretched". I don't have to be on a higher moral plane to defend myself. Attack the US and kill citizens for any reason and you should have a big, big problem. Eventually, people will not want that problem.
-
"Therefore, my point stands: no person and no society is inherently better than any other. " Self-defense does not require you to be morally pure. I'm not going to get into the "which country is more moral/better/humanitarian..." debate. I don't care. It's real simple, if you don't like the US structure of morality/politics/whatever, then stay home, write an essay, complain in a letter to the editor. However, if you attack the US, I don't care what your moral justification is, you become the largest beach in the Middle-East.

"That is an appropriate response to terrorists killing innocent people????" Yep. "... makes us stoop to their level. " Sometimes reality just ain't pretty. "WHERE does it end? " War is unfair, innocents get hurt. War ends on the day when they think it is a bad idea. If a bank robber holds up a bank, shoots some people, the cops shoot him. Did the cop stoop to his level ? In order to keep bad people from doing bad things, you have to make the risk/benefit ratio really poor. Right now, either Osama is dead or a country is knowingly harboring him. Maybe they should think that is a bad idea.

First, you talk about an innocent group of Afghani women. You mean like all the innocent women in the twin towers? Are we talking about fair treatment for non-combatants ? Everyone in the twin towers was a non-combatant. The Chinese discovered centuries ago that no one operates in a vacuum. If you were a revolutionary, someone knew about it. If you were caught, everyone in your family, down to first cousins was killed. Know what happened ? Things calmed down. So, if you are in XXX country and someone says "hey, let's attack the US" maybe their friends will say "we don't like that idea". The powers that be in Afghanistan supported it. Perhaps the people in XXX country will say "I don't want everyone I know to die. Bad idea". Make a poor decision - your wife, kids, neighbors, puppies... Someone has committed an atrocity and expects fair treatment ? Sorry.

"each and there are wretched people in each. " Yes, and when a group of wretched people band together and identify themselves as a nation and do something very bad, then we go to their little wretched nation and exterminate them as an example to other wretched people who think about doing bad things. Some peoples' sole purpose is to be an example to others. People think about the risk/benefit of an action. The first WTC car bomb attack had no retaliation. Therefore, no risk. If the risk becomes bombing into a dust pile, then maybe the risk will be too high for other like-minded people.

There would be no shockwaves because there is no medium (air). However, the ground rush would be excellent.

In the event that they gave you two bullets, shoot the lawyer twice.

Fallrate, this is a possible scenario. Remember that eco-challenge race where one team of entrants was 3 playmates and a former Navy Seal. The start of the race was fun, but a couple of days into it, they realized that this was not a "hairspray and nails" public appearance. They bitched the entire rest of the race. I thought they were going to take him hostage. Would you try to escape ?

"oldest single person " (thinks some and then realizes he is the oldest single person) Note to self: don't get taken hostage with airdrew.

"on August 16, 1960, from 102,800 feet, the highest altitude from which man has jumped. In freefall for 4.5 minutes at speeds up to 714 mph and temperatures as low as -94 degrees Fahrenheit, Kittinger opened his parachute at 18,000 feet. " FYI - interesting reading - or do a search on "Kittinger Joseph balloon" This guy did a mountain of cool stuff. http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/eagles/kittnger.htm

"But, I am a little old for him. " I once heard a riddle. "What's the difference between a woman of 20 and a woman of 35? 15 years experience." Thought it was just a cute riddle until I turned 35. Wooohoo! If an older woman wants to put the big smile on your face, she certainly can.

I have a friend who doesn't drink (for good reasons). When he refuses a beer/drink, people think it's his g/f controlling him. They have good, private reasons for their decisions. It's their life. No one needs to know those reasons. Others want to know the reasons so they can approve/disapprove of your choices. This couple does not need their approval. This decision (among others) does not affect anyones lives but their own. Some people just have to be judgemental and controlling. -
I heard a good explanation of this a while back and a solution. Women tend to give ph numbers and then the guy doesn't call. Why ? When a happy, smiling, sexy woman is standing in front of a man, he is getting the visual. The next day, no visual, just a ph number. Dating can seem like a lot of work sometimes to guys. Then, naaaaah, it's easier to just go shoot pool. Solution: Get the phone number, but also "close the deal". Make a date for 3 days from now. Something light and easy like lunch in a public place. If it isn't working, you can bail. Call once to confirm. Sound good ?

I guess what I got down to is this: It's none of my business. What pisses me off worse than anything is busybodies. A dz can be like a small town. A soap opera called "As The Prop Turns". I just go to the dz to jump and hang with friends. I am not interested in the private lives of others. -

"Integrity is the number one thing " Ok. Here's a situation that I see too much. If you have 25 friends, chances are that one of them is cheating on their b/f, g/f, spouse. Ever told the other party ? I don't. They kill the messenger. They are pissed off at you for letting them know. It's weird.
