    Gun registration will never be a compromise issue. England, Australia and Canada pitched it as a compromise, then used it to confiscate. I will never go for it. Not really correct in the UK, we still have 1.8 million guns here. True its very difficult to own semi auto longs that are centerfire but we can have semi auto rimfire (with whatever capacity mags we want). we can have .50 longs and straight pull centerfire ARs and single shot centre fire longs. We can have black powder pistols and so long as they are long enough we can have other handguns (Think .357 Rossi revolvers with long barrels). We can have semi auto Shotguns as well as double barrel two shot shotguns. Really they just restricted the handguns and the semi auto longs. (Which is a pain but we still have access to other firearms) Also we can have silencers if we want. We are also covered by the data protection act which is very stringent for digital information governance.     In the UK if you want a firearms licence then you have to give permission for the Police to speak to your Dr and ask them if they know of any reason why you should be refused a firearm, the grounds for which are mental health problems, depression, epilepsy or any condition likely to make you emotionally unstable or potentially dangerous physically. However if you had diabetes for example and it was well controlled then there is no reason for declining your application but someone with a history of poorly controlled diabetes would be unlikely to have their application accepted. I don't see a problem with this, the police can't get your medical history on a whim you have to give permission.     Make it illegal to be a member of a gang anyone who is a member of a gang is therefore a criminal has their right to firearms removed, anyone leaving a gang has to wait five or ten years before they can reapply for a licence to purchase a firearm. If found in possession of a firearm while banned give them an automatic ten stretch.     Thanks I'll be interested how they play it. In CA last time no they weren't but couldn't use anything bigger than a 10 round mag and in Maryland I believe they were banned.
