What's your name and how many people have you slept with?
Galen replied to skybytch's topic in The Bonfire
I was the underage one my first few times - same girl each time. Respect the Dolphin -
I remember when my roommate and I were trying to get together a bunch of people to go do a tandem. We had never skydived before (is skydived a word? doesn't sound right). We were siked about it and we wanted to get over 10 people so we could get a discount. Over 20 people said they were definitely in. So we try to set the date. "I don't want to spend the money" and "I think I have something going on that weekend" were the main excuses. Changing the date, which we did several times, wasn't anymore convenient. We set a date that suited us no matter if anyone else wanted to join us or not. It did end up being 5 of us. One had done a tandem before. I think I was the only person in our group that got obsessed and decided I had to take it further. Of course they back out. THEY WOULD HAVE TO JUMP OUT OF AN AIRPLANE. They see the x-games, Bond films, XXX and it looks fun but there is no fear of injury or worse when you see it on the screen. I'm going to try that dollar thing to supplement my skydiving. Way to go dude. I'm a Mfg. Engineer/Quality Manager for a place that does injection molding/ CNC modifying/ and decorating or plastic parts. It is boring and contributes nothing to humankind. However, I don't sit at the desk all day (sometimes wish I could) and I'm pretty much unsupervised since our corp. HQ is 1200 miles away and I get to wear several hats. I also maintain the computers and network here because I know how to check e-mail. I tell the Plant Mgr. that I'm debugging the internet when I'm haning out on DZ.com. Good luck - from another sky newbie. Respect the Dolphin

I'm still a student with 16 jumps. It's taken a while with weather and me traveling but the high is still there. I've nearly rear ended others staring at the clouds while driving - I like estimating there altitude. I'm also feeling sorry for those that haven't done it. I keep trying to get my other friends to do a tandem so they know what I'm talking about because I know they're sick of hearing about it. Good luck to both of you. Respect the Dolphin

Since I work at a location distant from the corporate office I got the job as the IT guy (because I knew how to check e-mail) in addition to my regular job. We always have the same people who get viruses. You know, the ones that don't think there could be anything wrong when the subject line says "I thought of you when I saw this" from someone named "Betsy". They never learn. Well, one the guys got a similar do-it-yourself virus and was so proud of himself for deleting these files. Thought he was a real guru. He also took it upon himself to go other workstations and get rid of this virus file that was surprisingly on these other PC's. His heart was in the right place. A little bit of knowledge is dangerous. That's why I choose to be a complete moron. Respect the Dolphin

I think I know the person you are talking about. I didn't know she was on a topless jump but it makes more sense. I squirmed as she told me about it. To anyone doing a tandem: When they tell you to lose the jewelry, lose ALL the jewelry. Respect the Dolphin

I got out just a little bit after jraf. I opened higher but was in maze of clouds. I wasn't actually in a cloud just surrounded by them. By the time I got my bearings I realized I wasn't going to make it home. So, I found the most remote field just off of a dead end road. Didn't land in any cowshit but I had to be very careful where I stepped. It was like a minefield. Eventually I was found. Respect the Dolphin

What's the most vivid memory about your first jump?
Galen replied to prepheckt's topic in The Bonfire
My first jump was a tandem at Sebastian with some friends. We had to wait about 3 hours for our load. We sat around - it was hot and we were getting swarmed by love bugs (Florida people know what I'm talking about), and we were bored. We were just about ready to bag it for the day. Not because of nerves but because we were bored. See my last post as to how that jump went. My first 3 or 4 or 5 AFF jumps I had a big problem with the door. I just didn't like getting into it. The "door monster" as an instructor put it. I had no fear in freefall or skydiving. Just standing in the door. Must have been some kind of preconditioning - doors of airplanes should not be open in flight. Respect the Dolphin -
That's not what I wanted to hear. Oh well...back to the grind. Respect the Dolphin

I'm a mechanical enginerd. Been out of school 5 years now. I started in the corporate office in Phila, PA... cube, mochaccino machine, cute girls in marketing, khakis and all that crap. Just when I started getting bored - a year later - they offered a position as a mfg. engineer/quality mgr. in Florida. At 24 knowing noone here I took it. I have a treehouse style office with ants. The plant has no A/C. Most of the hourly workers are right off the boat from somwhere. It's dirty, out of the corp. loop, and annoying but I go to work in shorts and a t-shirt, no one cares if I look hung over, no one trying to out do you, and my immediate boss is 1200 miles away. There has to a skydiving related job for an engineer that has design, project management, and manufacturing experience but I haven'f found it yet although I've only been at it for a few months. Anybody have experience with designing/manufacturing custom rigs? Anyone have capital? Respect the Dolphin

What's the most vivid memory about your first jump?
Galen replied to prepheckt's topic in The Bonfire
Did a tandem with a group of friends about a year before I did AFF. My roommate was the first of us to jump. He was in the door and looked back.... I had never seen anybody look so pale. And then they leaned forward and disappeared. It looked like someone through a paper bag out of a fast moving car. And then it was my turn. Respect the Dolphin -
Hey Patkat, what part of Lancaster are you from? That's where I grew up. I currently live in FLA. Respect the Dolphin
