  1. Yeah...and I want my stapler back. I was told that I could staple with my red stapler at a reasonable volume between 9 and 11 so I see no reason why you should have taken my stapler away. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  2. OK, I have a postal service story to share. Yesterday, my CYPRES was supposed to arrive. This is the final component of my new-to-me beer rig. Yesterday, my apartment complex repaved the portion of the parking lot directly in front of my building. Now, this is no big deal. I parked in front of the building 50 feet away and walked about 30 seconds to get to my building. But evidently this was such a potential hazard for the postal service that the fuckers skipped my building. Come wind, rain, dark of night my ass! A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  3. Hmm... Do you think that might explain the constant problem I've been having? Every time I pour a homebrew, I find pubes floating in my glass. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  4. I wrote a paper on that fugue for a musicology class. Domenico Scarlatti was quite a wacky guy. Some of his other sonatas come so close to atonality (or Charles Ives) that it is difficult to believe that he was born in the same year as Handel and J.S. Bach. 6. Wanted to bump this thread because I'll be getting my A license soon and am not sure what happens next that does not involve ratings. Pardon the stupid question, but when I get my license, can I expect to jump with people with very experienced people? Will I feel obligated to pick up their jump ticket since I have so little experience? What about jumping with others just off student status? I understand the usefulness of coaching, but what about making fun jumps? What can I expect? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

  19. I was wondering about the "one size" point myself. I will be flying a Triathlon 175 loaded at .9. Would one size down be a Spectre 170? a Triathlon 160? A Specrtre 150? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

  21. Hi Mike! Welcome to the forums! I homebrew because I enjoy making my own beer and because it's nice to have a stock of good beer sitting around the house. Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of good beers in America; one simply needs to know where to look for them. I would say that it is true that commercial macrobreweries like Budweiser and Miller sell much greater volumes than microbreweries and brewpubs, but rest assured there is good beer to be found here. Homebrewing is popular in the U.S. inasmuch as quality ingredients are available for purchase and there are local clubs that brewers may join. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  22. Yesterday I was talking to my father on the phone, and he told me for the first time how much he does not like the idea of me skydiving. I guess I was surprised, because a week before he had been talking about pitching in to help me buy my rig as a graduation gift. I couldn't imagine him helping me buy my rig if he was against the idea of me skydiving. But yesterday he launched into a spiel about how I'll understand what it's like when I have children and how he doesn't want me to splat into the pavement like a pancake if my chute doesn't open (his words). I tried framing the conversation about risk assessment in ways he would understand - like the fact that he enjoys skiing and whitewater rafting-and has seen a fatility in whitewater rafting - and that for him, the risk of both activities is outweighed by the rewards, but it fell on deaf ears. I offered to show him my rig and how the canopy deploys and is packed, but I don't think he's up for that. As I was saying this, a popped up on my shoulder and I imagined demonstrating canopy deployment and at one point saying, "Hmmm...That's not supposed to happen!" 23. No. The activity I saw in the carboy was a layer of foam forming on the surface, much in the same way the foam forms during initial fermentation. I saw it before I moved the carboy to the "bottling station" (sounds so much more romantic than "my bathroom") A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  24. Hmm... You and jfields are not that far apart from each other. Have you guys had a chance to taste each other's beer? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  25. I do. Actually, this was the first batch where I used a secondary fermenter and I noticed that there was plenty of crap in the bottom of the secondary fermenter which surprised me. I'll leave it a bit longer next time. The thing I liked most about using a secondary fermenter is it's so much easier to clean the kraeusen out of a bucket rather than a carboy. Cleanup was a snap this time! I fill up my bathtub, pour in some bleach, then dunk the bottles until they're full. I let them float there while I prep my bottling bucket with corn sugar and rack the beer from secondary into the bucket. I guess it could be worse, but bottling is such a drag that I just wanted to get it over with rather than dry all the bottles, put them away and start the process again another day. Maybe I'll learn to love Scotch Ale... Just not a very drinkable beer - too sweet, not hoppy enough for my taste. Nonetheless, if our paths ever cross it would be cool to have a tasting.
