  1. So, is it gonna be Georgia John, Atlanta John, or are we at Dallas just gonna stick with Arkansas John? D.J.
  2. Robert...you f'n make me crack up sometimes. D.J.
  3. Trying the method along the lines of what AggieDave mentioned did not work for me. The following is what worked for me when I was at about the same skill level as you. Pull your left or right leg and arm into your side. Put plenty of pressure on the other arm. The wing that remains out will catch the wind and flip (cartwheel) you over. When I tried to roll over or force my way over it would alter my torso. This caused me to move forward or backward during the transition. By using the method I described above allowed me to keep my torso straight therefore I did not move out of position. Try different methods to see what works best for you. D.J.
  4. How did you go about coming up with a top 100? I like this one better than that until they were all in order? How in the hell do you figure Jackie Brown is better than Office Space. I think you need to re-evaluate some of those. Overall, pretty good order. I do, however, hate some of the movies you've listed but 'to each his own.' D.J.
  5. Go beyond the sitfly. On a solo jump, go ahead and push your feet all the way down to a stand and fly that for a bit. This will help you learn about using enough leg pressure to maintain a good position. I was able to maintain a good stand before I was able to keep my legs at the proper 90 degree position for a sit. There's also nothing wrong with looking down and checking to see if you have your legs pushed down far enough. If not, push harder! D.J.
  6. Texas is not in the Southeast. Texas is in Texas. I have never lived in Austin but visited many times. It's a nice city. I lived in San Antonio for a few years and loved it. Plenty of that history crap you are looking for, good weather during the winter months, and good DZs within a few hours drive. D.J.
  7. Don't know the situation at all but I would venture to guess that it is not 'men' but the men you choose. Everyone is different and not all men are the same. D.J.
  8. It cracks me up how everyone's taste is so different. I loved Napoleon Dynamite. He cracked me up the whole movie. Dazed and Confused was also a great movie. Haven't seen Gummo. My buddy loves that movie because he says it is the worst movie ever made. His logic seems illogical. He keeps bugging me to watch it. D.J.
  9. A lot of ppl liked Vanilla Sky but I hated it. D.J.
  10. 1. Get my damn degree. I could do it a helluva lot faster if I would stop dropping classes. 2. Visit Australia! 3. Visit all the other places (lots to list). 4. Consume in every US state (about half done). 5. Obtain Pilot's license and own an airplane. I would have to think about it a bit to come up with the other five. They all have to do with Livin' Life though. D.J.
  11. Oops...forgot to add that the moves that you pasted to a post earlier are the moves used for the speed rounds only. You can do ANYTHING you want for the free round. Those speed moves have changed each year also. So, expect some different ones. In the meantime, practice speed rounds with all the basic freefly moves. Include some practice with a flat flying point mixed in with the vertical points. D.J.
  12. Nope. Do whatever you want but I highly recommend concentrating on just one routine for a couple of reasons. 1) You will get more practice on the same routine leading to a better performance. 2) All your cool moves will be in a single routine. If you had two seperate routines then you'd have to split up the cool moves and add filler stuff. 3) You get absolutely NO extra points for having multiple routines. Speed rounds proved to be VERY important. The calculation of points from the speed round has changed each year. So, again, check for that equation with the 2005 rules. Do not neglect training for the speed round. All this is based on the rules from last year. Again, make sure to check the rules when they come out this year to make sure multiple routines or something whacky isn't introduced. Also, I recommend that you know all the general rules for competition also...like what qualifies for re-jumps and stuff like that. D.J.
  13. 2004: 7 total rounds. 5 free rounds and 2 speed rounds. If I remember right the free rounds were 45 seconds of working time. Do whatever you want. The judging criteria is in the competition manual. The speed rounds were 35 seconds. 3 compulsary moves per speed round as many times as you can. The US competition is based off of the international rules. So, keep your eye open for the 2005 rules. Things may change a lot...ya never know. D.J.
  14. LOL. I agree. I was in the same neighborhood. I'd have to break out my logbook to check and that is all the way in the other room. D.J.
  15. It is FAR worse when it's a guy that has overdone the cologne. There is a guy at work that loves to use a gallon of the "good stuff" (read cheap cologne). If you make the mistake of sitting in a common chair after him you'll be screwed the rest of the day because now you are carrying the stink around. It is also a pet peeve of mine...hate when dudes where cologne to work (military). We are not there to pick up the ladies. We are there to learn how to break things in a more efficient manner. D.J.
  16. Here's another example pic. Sitflyer's feet toward prop. Torso parallel to Earth. Grab wind with arms. Take your time to set up the exit as close to that position as you can prior to jumping...it will help alot. TONS of positive pressure with your legs. Practice makes perfect...10-15 seconds will turn into 50 seconds in no time. Oh, TONS of positive pressure with your legs. D.J.
  17. know exactly what you are talking about. i've been playing on da yahoo spades. d.j.

Thanks everyone! I'd like to give some props to Laminar Flow. They are the team that scored the best in our division. They did a great job and didn't get much recognition for it since they were a guest team. We had a great time at Nationals and look forward to competing next year with the big boys. After the competion, Jon and Brandon did a little 9-point 8way with some of the other competitors, both open and intermediate, just to goof off on a jump. There is no talent at these competition gigs, ha ha. D.J.
  19. Less munchies, Chappy. LOL. More surface area = slower fall rate so, the more leg presented will slow you down. You'll get slower over time without even realizing it because your muscles will adapt. Don't forget to learn how to move forward/backward, transitions, etc. Don't get caught up on worrying only about speed. D.J.
  20. YES! VIBE will be there to drink...errr...jump. D.J.
  21. I'm glad to hear that you're back in the air, Goat. D.J.
  22. Chappy, where the hell have you been? Missed ya on the 4th and Skyfest. D.J.
  23. I enjoyed meeting the flyers I did not know (Jason, Brittany, and Alli) and seeing friends that I haven't seen in a long while. I did a horrible job of getting around and talking to all the people that I haven't seen in a while. Next time I will not "F" that up. Deva, the next time we cross paths I imagine it will be more along the lines of the Orlando trip. We had a friggin' blast watching you in the tunnel while we were completely ripped. Pestering...it's only a short drive, Brit. Drag those other S. Texas peeps up with you. D.J.
