  1. I'll keep that in mind. My flight leaves the 18th, so if it's going to be a big party up there I don't know if i'll take the chanse..haha. Do you know if there will be some kind of st. patricks party in z-hills that weekend?
  2. sounds great! From march 1st me and some others will come, and more will come during the first and second week of march
  3. Yeah, i guess the scenery is somewhat different from what i'm used to. At this stage I have just been jumping at Voss, wich you might know for the extremesports week and Voss freefly festival. As for the sand spurs and ants, I just hope they stay the hell out of my RV
  4. from the pictures i've seen I can agree on that one.. but this thing is organized by one of my instructors so i'm just going there because I have friends going there with me. I'ts still a few months until my dz opens, so it's a great way to get a early start of the season. The money I save buying the rig in the US is pretty much what the flights and lodging will cost so it's kind of a win-win for me :) Anyway; thanx for the suggestions of things to do! I guess i'll go to Orlando for some tunnel-time and tourist stuff for a few days as well As for the new gear beer,i'm just glad to buy that in the US and not in norway...
  5. Thanx for the reply! We are a bunch of 20 +- guys and gals going togheter. The plan is to rent a car for the whole stay, regarding lodging we'll rent RV's. I guess i'm just curious about the place and wanted to know more about it. Cant't wait to get down there :D Will pick up my first cusstom rig while there as well
  6. Just wondering what to expect from the DZ and the roundabouts? What to do while there besides skydiving? We are a group of norwegians who are going there in the beginning of march to get some sun,new friends and offcourse some sweet skydives
  7. GoPro hero HD2, Cookie G3 and a viso 2 - and I will do that when I go over to the US in march
  8. Ok. I have never travelled with my gear but friends who have says it can occur problems with some airports and airlines in europe. I hope I can take it with me as handluggage when i'm going to z-hills in march. I'm travelling with KLM, wich is the airline the girl i'm writing about in the OP used
  9. This is not my gear we are talking about. It's a girl who comes frome the same city as me. I'll check with her if she have the serialnumbers. I know there is some kind of agreement in the US that allows one to take the rig as handluggage. In europe however, most airlines don't allow this.
  10. https://www.facebook.com/groups/216952851725755/ Anyone knows about other this has happened to? What's the best way to approach this issue with the airline? Suggestions? Info: "STOLEN: Black and blue Icon container, main chute Pilot 150 blue and lime colored, white Smart 150 reserve chute, Cypres II. Bought NEW with witnesses through the Crazy Viking Camp 2009. Has about 120 jumps on it. They stole some more things from my bag, but this is the most important and most expensive thing they took! They want to pay me back 10 000 NOK, but all put together with the things that´s missing, they should pay up almost 50 000 NOK. A brand new rigg with only 120 jumps is not all of the sudden worth 1/4 of the cost. This is what happened: We were flying from Oslo to San Diego, with stops in Amsterdam and Minneapolis. 1. Checked in my luggage in Oslo (Was gonna get it in Minneapolis.) 2. Luggage did not show up in Minneapolis. We informed the security, and got told to check if it already was sent to San Diego. 3. Didn´t show up in San Diego. Informed the helpdesk for KLM and Delta in San Diego that it didn´t show up in Minneapolis, and not here. 4. Had to wait some days, they said it wasn´t scanned and that it still was in Amsterdam, but was on its way now. 5. Came a couple of days later to get, since they said it had arrived. I looked at the luggage, which now was put in a white plastic bag and shut with white KLM tape, then my boyfriend and I looked at each other, ´cause we could informed the lady at the helpdesk at once that that bag was too small for my whole rigg/parachute to be in it. 6. Opened the plasticbag., found that my gearbag was in the plastic bag, but WITHOUT my rigg/parachute and some other stuff I had in it. INSTEAD they had put somebody else's underwear in it, and some cornflakes and tea that was scattered in my gearbag. 7. On the edge of starting to cry, I had to fill out forms for lost baggage! Lost!! This is STOLEN! My luggage was never on the baggage pickup. It was only supposed to be transfered by KLM EMPLOYEES from the Oslo flight and over to the Amsterdam going to Minneapolis flight! This is not the first time employees of KLM steal from their passengers, and expect us to not do anything! Please share this page!! Maybe KLM will get stricter with who they hire! I WANT THEM TO PAY UP WHAT THEY STOLE FROM ME AND OTHERS!! PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks!" edit: added the information from the FB group.
  11. I guess a PD Pulse could fit as well.
  12. Here is a pretty sweet video with some funny wingsuiting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVrQHsbbwlY
  13. I just have to share this one... http://vimeo.com/18098824
  14. That's my home DZ right there :D You chould also check out the 2010 video! And when you're at it, check out the : Voss freefly Festival as well. You find them all at vimeo
  15. Whatever.. I sort of got my answers here so ill let the other guyst figure it out. thanx for all the suggestisons :)
  16. Cheers. Edit: so you don't think a optimum 160 would save my life if I had to use it?
  17. You migt be rigt in this, but I dan't want to take a chance on that one. This is what i've been told: If you can afford new or newer gear in the beginning and at the same time do 150 jumps a year, GREAT, go for it. If you have a limited budget, get something used and enjoy the jumping until you can afford something that's newer and fits you better. You should not get the cheapest and oldest gear around, because you might have a hard time selling it in the end. I'll go for the first one. Sorry if i offend anyone with not buying used gear for my first.
  18. The suggestion for the setup was with a Pulse because it packs smaller and a pulse 190 fits well in the infinity 170 caontainer. This came straight from the manufacturer. Because I know the pulse is a hybrid with low packing volume I asked if a safire2 179 would pack bigger or about the same size so that it could be an option vs the pulse wich was suggested. This is because my instructors said a safire2 would be a better canopy for me. As for the reserves; if the optimum is the way I have to go, i will take it,no problems. but as everyone else i don't just throw around my money. If a speed would have about the same packing volume as an optimum i would prefer that because of a lower price. I've read just positive things about both the speed and the optimum so I believe both are very good and safe reserves. edit: DaVinciflies: I'm looking at the safire 179 vs the pulse 190 because I guess its obvious that the safire 190 will pack bigger than the pulse 190.
  19. I've been told "Listen to your instructors". Thats just what i'm actually doing here. But in my case you guys seem to think your oppinions is the best? This is not a question of wingloading. Its a question of canopies. I havent bought either The container or the Canypies yet. I'm Really glad for all your feedback and I have used alot of the opinions you guys have given me while talking to my instructor and the manufacturer. I really appreciate it, even though people seem to think I don't. I'm not buying a rig to downsize fast, and I'm not buying it to get it as small as possible. I actually just want to get a rig wich would do the job for me in the next couple of years. And hell, if i can downsize two sizes with my first custom rig, GREAT! If not, no problem. I get a new one in a couple of years. Bottom line. I just wanted to know if the safire2 179 would pack bigger than a pulse 190. Regarding the reserve I just asked because The the setup the manufacturer suggested was with a optimum. I think it was a bit expensive so I just wanted to know if I could use a speed instead.
  20. Thanx, but thats way to old for what I'm looking for. If I have that for a few years I will never get it sold again.
  21. Just to set things straight here... I dont have any gear yet. I'm looking at two different sizes of Containers. The manufacturer gave me an idea of putting a 190 pulse in their 170 container. The reason I ask about packingvolumes between the pulse and the safire2 is because my instructors gave me the advice to get one, because they think it's a good canopy for me. I Could actually Jump a 170 with the weight im at now, but I'd rather get a 180 or a 190. The reason I'm asking about the safire 179 vs the pulse 190 is that I think its obvious that the 190 safire will not fit. As for getting used stuff for my first rig. great ida, I have really tried hard to get it. But as stated im my previous post the market for rigs wich fit me and my first canopy is small in norway. If I could find decent used gear used in Norway I would't have made this thread. As for me buying new stuff in the us, the price i will pay for it is actually 25% lower than the total price would be in norway due to tax. The guy wich is helping me with the setup is looking for used man & reserve, but if he dont find something I'll get all the gear new. As for respect form experienced jumpers I couldn't actually care less. We all have different approaches to different things. I have worked my ass off to get the money for this gear and I can afford jumping as well. I'm not spitting in anyones faces either. I just wanted to know wich would pack the smaller due to picking one of two canopies for the setup I got from the manufacturer. I guess the used market in the US is quite big, and prices are different than in Norway. I could buy used gear back home and pay 4-5000$ for gear from 2000-2005 but I actually think it's more value in it for me to get new gear while in the states and bring it back home without paying the tax. In 2-3-4 years I can still sell it and allmost get my money back because of the small used market. And avg. high prices for used gear here. I hope this clearyfies some things regarding this whole Idea.
  22. haha.. No :) As for the manufacturers lists, I know, but as people in this thread has pointed out, it doesn't allways tell you the truth.. I don't care anymore. I let someone else deal with this stuff. it this pont I just pay it, and I'm happy with that
