I feel the same way about In-N-Out Burger. What-a-Burger is better. And they're open 24 hours.

Move to Texas.

The candy names in the U.K. are all switched around from the U.S. for some reason. Like a Mars bar over there is a Milky Way over here, and a Milky Way over there is a Three Musketeers over here, and lots more that I can't remember. It's confusing... So you're probably thinking of a different Marathon bar than what we had over here (quite different from a Snickers). Edit to say: I had to look up the British Marathon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Snickers_Marathon.jpg

Have you taken this test? Do you know what kind of sports car you are? Sorry, but I don't see any difference in a little Internet test that tells me where I'll be going when I die and a little Internet test that tells me what kind of sports car I am. They're both just silly.

Just curious (I honestly have no idea), but don't they use similar methods when filming movies and tv shows with young children? I often wonder about that when I see a baby crying in a show. Given production costs, I can't imagine that they would wait for the baby to start crying naturally.

I just got an incredible ab workout from laughing so hard at this!!!

Wow, that's pretty cool. -
And if you want to go to a real Texas booze hall, you can go to Gruene Hall (in between Austin and San Antonio). I've seen some great shows there, including Jerry Lee Lewis - what a fun place.

There's lots of good "real" mexican food in South Austin - little "mom & pop" shops that I can't remember the names of... a lot of them don't speak English, but you can get some great food for a couple of bucks... Curra's Grill on East Oltorf is also pretty good (looks like they have a North location now too), and El Sol Y La Luna (yummy, fresh food! - at the Austin Motel - can't miss the phallic sign) and Guero's Taco Bar (excellent tortilla soup!) are really good. But you must eat barbecue if you're in Texas, man!

Me too. Sounds like fun, Lisa! (And no, not just the getting fuckered up part. )

Well, I've been to Oilcan Harry's a few times... But now that you mention it, I don't think I actually know any gay guys in Austin (which seems weird, but I don't). I know a few women who are less-than-straight though... introductions please. Well, after your previous "real Texas" comment, I'm not so sure that you are worthy.

The bats at Congress Bridge are definitely cool. I used to live right next to that bridge, and that area (plus a bit south) is my favorite part of Austin, but I'm a weirdo. Going south down Congress, you'll find the "Soco" Area - lots of shops, restaurants, etc., and my favorite bar, The Continetal Club (a bar that has been there since the 50's, lots of good live music - check out one of their free happy hour shows if you get a chance). 6th Street or the Warehouse District, as others mentioned. The Alamo Drafthouse is fun if you're in that area - they have an eclectic selection of movies, and you can order beer or wine and a full menu while you're watching the show. If you have time for a drive (~30 mi.) and a short hike, Hamilton Pool is pretty neat. (Though it might be sort of dry right now because of the drought???) There are also some nice walking trails along Town Lake (where the bats are). And there is Zilker Park and Barton Springs Pool. Zilker and Barton Creek are some of the nicest things about Austin (IMO) - lots of stuff to do there (nature center, botanical gardens, canoe rentals, trails...) Anyhow, those are my suggestions. I guess most of this stuff is a bit south from where you'll be, but I don't know of much to do in North Austin. I'm a South Austin girl (and no, I'm not a redneck - I've never heard that one before, Wendy??? I thought all the rednecks were in Dallas or Houston. ). Oh yeah, and there are lots of good strip clubs in Austin, if you're into that sort of thing. Or you can visit the Capitol and such (downtown area). And The Austin Chronicle has the best city guide. Hope that helps...

I'll post some stuff when I get home later. I love Austin. Don't listen to Turtle and Aggie. Oh, and do you know where you're staying?
-
What sort of stuff do you like to do?
-
"Like a One-legged Cat Trying to Bury Turds in a Frozen Pond" Yep, that's pretty much the story of my life.

Do you have any statistics showing how many grad students are white? If I go by my personal experience, I'd say that the majority of grad students are white. But you seem to think that white people are at a disadvantage, so I'm curious to see how you came to this opinion.(?)

I used to have some of those. And luckily, I can't find the picture of me wearing them.
-
Oh, and don't forget the glasses, and the hair in the bun... I know! I'm almost sad that I had the Lasik thing done... because I always felt so sexy wearing my glasses. And at least they made me look smart.

I lived in a studio for a year or so (me and two cats ). It was ok. My place was always a mess, but that's pretty much the case with anywhere that I've lived. It was sort of weird because when people would come over, we'd all end up sitting on my bed. But it was in an apartment complex where we all knew each other, so it was almost like a college dorm or something. Anyhow, I didn't think it was much different than living in a one-bedroom.
-
No, but you see plenty in pornos.

Hmm... And I always thought that most guys had a thing for librarians.(?)

Looks like you had some beautiful jumps, Steve!
