  1. Really I would suggest that as a conservative approach you should send me your reserve after two years. I will inspect it and when I find it unairworthy I will give you eighty dollars so that you can get a new one. Thank you for the great offer, I will also talk to other at my home DZ. I'll send mine tomorrow. You can't always believe what you see and you hear........
  2. I was just told by a tandem instructor (not a rigger) that the material on reserves deteriorates after a while (he said something 10 repacks), and that they should be replaced after about 5-6 years (repack in canada is ervery six months). I haven't since talked to my rigger, and was just curious if any one has input. Thanks
  3. I have to say that I agree with you. It is dangerous. At this DZ they do exit at 3000 meters (therefore low), Apparently taxes on jetfuel have gone up resulting in a increase in jump tickets (don't know what they opened at before). I personally jumped there only three times on a sunday, but wouldn't want anyone I know doing a tandem jump there. 1000 meter opening on a tandems sounds way too low for me.
  4. As far as I know they use cypresses, I didn't personaly check to see one on the tandem rigs, but video guy(owner) had one for sure. What do you mean by the cypress getting scared. The tandem ones are made to open at 1900ft(570m). This was a small DZ, they didn't even look at my papers, just gave a parachute and said you're on the next load. I was the one who had to ask landing pattern, outs and to see an arial photo (which they didn't have). I just thought it was kinda hokey. Still decided to jump after checking my gear and making sure the cypress did a good count down (rented gear). Didn't worry too much jumping out of a cessna, now if it were a bigger jump plane with more people in the sky I would have given it more thought. Please let know know about the scared cypress thing.
  5. Just wondering what people think about this. First of all I am not stirring the pot or making this up. I am in europe, have been jumping a bit here and there. Last time was at a DZ in eastern europe, where the 182 only went up to 2500m (7500ft). I was told it was too expensive to go higher. Well on my third jump I asked the TM at what altitude they open at (in canada its 5500-6000ft(as far as I know), so from 7500 it wouldn't leave much time for FF). He told me at 1000m (3000ft), I said WOW thats what I usually open at; isn't that a bit low ? His answer was that the gear is new and opens fast (don't know what it was). I was just curious if other thought that this is way too low, maybe the opinions of TMs.
  6. Hey there, I have been to Empuriabrava. Nice place go jump there for sure, easy to get to from BCN with or without car. About the villa goto homelidays.com, and you will find many places to rent for even min. 3 days, I have been traveling through europe for the past nine months and have used this site many times. If you want to rent a car check out http://www.economycarrentals.com/, this was the cheapest and best thing I found, I have also used this in a few occasions. BCN is great fun, and don't stop jumping with just a tandem !! Blue skies
  7. I haven't seen this video, but I am in france right now and was asking a tandem master about that (because I have seen it on french vids). He said ya they do it all the time, at the DZ I overheard another tanem master telling a guy he just took up that if he does a tandem again they will go head down. The TI also said that it is very easy to take a passenger headdown.
  8. no it was a canadian CSPA B licence
  9. You are right,it is empuria. Now that you explained the layout, I can see it. So this was the french team, when was this, do you know any specs ( obviously no dyters). Man that looks @#$% close to the ground
  10. I looked at the video again, and it wasn't in emupria. I don't know what team it was. I was just in empuria brava in dec. Nice drop zone.
  11. According to your calculations that it would take five seconds to perform those maneuvers, I'd be able to witness my cypress in action. I do not plan on being this low without a wing over me (but I want to know to how to react if I ever find myself in this situation). I Deploy at three grand usually and have my dyter set at 35 just to remind me pull time is coming, and I always turn my cypres on. I think it would still be a good idea to go through the turn and dump maneuvers incase if the cypres wouldn't work. Well anyways I'll keep rolling my tail and nose (hate those hard openings)and make sure I under canopy above 2500.
  12. To answer your question about how low. On the actual test it doesn't say how low, all it says is you are lower than your break off altitude (I am sure there was no altitude specified). The video I saw on Airtec the four way was lower than 1500 for sure (their cypreses deployed just a couple seconds after breakoff) they did chose to track, which resulted in cypres fire instead of manual deployment. Anyways I like idea of turning and dumping my reserve if I am under 1500.
  13. The thing that made me think of this is that I was on the Airtec website, and was watching a video of a four way that got too low. They seemed like they were a above average skill level, when they realized they were too low they turned and tracked before dumping (cypres fire). So I thought that I wouldn't have done that, then I remembered the question on the test. Blue skies
  14. I"m not sure if this is in the right forum area. I was just thinking back to a question on my B license and not sure if I remember the right answer. Question was : You're doing a four way and realize you are very low (didn't say how low) do you : 1. turn 180 and dump 2. turn 180,track a couple seconds and dump 3. I don't remember this one Anyways as far as I remember (and what I would do) would be to turn 180 and dump and grab rear risers and brace myself. I think tracking would waste precious altitude, but then again dumping so close to others might be dangerous as well. Just wondering what you guys think.
  15. Thanks for the input guys. Its always nice to know that we are just one big happy family. Sniff. Take care and keep those winds low and the clouds sparce and fluffly. Dave
  16. Hello guys and girls, I will be in Italy for a little while 20mins away from a DZ (skydive Salerno). I have tried to write to them, in English ,and french (haven't yet busted out my hungarian though). I wanted to find out a few things (don't have my gear with me and want to find out what they rent for example). Does anybody know this DZ, or can speak Italian and could maybe translate an email for me. Thanks for any input , any is appreciated, but please write so I understand unlike the post I just read from "timmybuddhadude" about "can anyone five me my aff for £1 /£1/1sheikaweika" Craziest most incomprehensible post ever Thanks and Blue skies Dave

thanks for the answer, I guess this post belongs in bonfire. Now I'll just have to read the definition over a couple of times to understand what the hell it means.

    what is a troll

I made a post a couple of days ago and some one was saying that there was a chance that the poster (me) was a troll. What is a troll ? Other than the dude living under the bridge (I know it was a tempting answer for many).
  19. Well looks like I got a lot of answers. First of all what is a Troll (there was someone saying that I could be one because of my post). Secondly, it is 180 day repack cylce in canada. Thirdly , not all canadian dropzones are CSPA, therefore have different rules. All I wanted to know was if it was safe to turn it on. I just couldn't see the cypres turning into a pumpkin after 12 years and three months. I mean if it counts down fine it should be good(like others have stated). Thanks for all the input.
  20. So sid, you're telling me to turn the cypres on ?
  21. My reserve is good till the end of the month. I guess I should just call the DZO. Thought I'd ask for an opinion on here. Thanks.
  22. Does it blow up like the bombs in those nifty hollywood movies ? I just want to know if it is still reliable to some degree , or just to leave it off instead of having it removed.
  23. Well it expired about a month ago, wanna do a nice chilly winter jump in Canada. Is it safe to turn it on, or do I just leave it off. Thanks Blue skies
