  1. Haha don't listen to that guy too much. Obviously he did everything superb during his first jump. I'm making this assumption by looking at the way he replied there... Don't worry, most people don't have the perfect arch during their first few jumps. I'm sure that the 2 hours in the tunnel have helped you a lot Now go have fun when you're gonna jump and don't worry too much if you make some mistakes or if you fly less perfect then the way you did in the tunnel. If everything works at the first try there's not much fun to it, now is there?
  2. ***He made a decision to backfly without a dytter didn't he? What he did doesn't relate to someone who is doing RW with a camera for example, it's not like everyone in the group is gonna forget to track away because one guy has a camera. It's more situational than jump numbers alone, as with everything else...[/quote You're a danger to new jumpers that might take up your advice. Stop making up excuses for everything and for the love of it listen to what the real experienced people in this sport have to say. Their attitude and knowledge probably contributed to the fact that they're still in the sport. I doubt you come to your senses, seeing your attitude thought -_- I hope you don't hurt yourself, but especially hope that noone gets hurt thanks to your great advice/attitude.
  3. Maybe some people here should wipe the sand out of their vageges. A guy once tracked along jumprun? What a dick all freeflyers must be! I think freeflyers are nothing else then any other jumpers out there. Most are cool, but there's always some dicks. Don't expect to be brought along big FF groups if you don't have sufficient skills to do it safely. It's a discipline where you have to put effort in, like any other discipline in this sport. To me, it looks like you expect that others come up to you and start a conversation, are you aware that it's okay if you take initiative?
  4. I'm sorry, but that's very bad advice. Why would one want to use a gopro for footage, if there's no way to cutaway the helmet on which it is used? A gopro is by far one of those camera's/mounts with a higher risk of catching lines/entanglements. "The sticky mount will get ripped off" would not be a valid argument, there's been a few guys testing the strength of a gopro mount on a helmet, with an inflated pilot chute attached to it (IIRC) and it took 7(!) seconds before the casing of the camera itself (not the sticky mount) broke off. I can't find the video at the moment, but I'm sure someone else will ;) 7 seconds might seem like little, but it's longer then you'd wish for when you're burning trough 2 grand, spinning your way downwards with your head in your neck and a big ball of shit pulling on that mount. If you want to use a camera with no cutaway (would definitely NOT advice this) then a Contour or Bullet camera would be way more low-profile. Personally, I'd never jump a camera without a quick-release to get rid of the whole thing. I'd get a cheap open-face with a proper release for jumping with a camera.
  5. If there are so many things that can go wrong with this, then why are so many people doing it? That's a very scary way of thinking..
  6. Hi, Since the winter is coming to an end and the season soon starting again there will be quite some jumpers who start jumping again that haven't jumped in a few months. I personally haven't stopped jumping during the winter, but I've definitely been jumping a lot less the last few months. I know there will be a lot of jumpers at my DZ who haven't jumped for a while, but don't think they've lost a certain amount of currency, or never even think about the fact that they haven't jumped for a while. I, personally, know that I've lost a certain amount of currency in the last couple of months, due to jumping less frequent. I have the opinion that every jumper loses a certain amount of currency when they don't jump for a while, regardless experience. Now someone with a couple of thousand jumps will off course lose less of his/hers currency over someone who just came off student status prior to their (winter) break. I was wondering if there's an article out there with tips and tricks on what to do when jumpers have taken a long break. If someone knows any, could he/she please share them with the rest of us?
  7. Could this just be the result of a shit packjob, since "it'll open soft anyways"? I managed to get shit openings on my Spectre, was due to inconsistency in the bungees I used.
  8. I'd like to know about this "activation on the mat" Does anyone have any info on that? Why did the unit fire? Could it have fired later on as well? What about the carpets used in various aircraft? Could I contribute to this problem when sliding over the carpet towards the door on a day with very dry air?
  9. Sounds a bit like you're doing it for the wrong reasons. When I was 13 I was hooked on games. I was what you'd call a nerd. Now I'm jumping and in the military, doing stuff I like..... Don't be to eager to let your kid discover all this stuff, even if it's for all the right reasons
  10. Okay, Pops and I want to know, what were these circumstances? Was it just a total malfunction or something crazy? I've jumped with and without AAD's, with and without RSL's. I prefer to have both.
  11. Quote>Could save the day. If I chop my main and my RSL doesn't work (for whatever >reason, lets say it disconnected) and I don't pull my reserve handle, for whatever >reason... Then there's a good chance my AAD will cut the reserve loop when the right >parameters are met. Agreed. If, for example, you cut away at 2500 feet, then your AAD stands an excellent chance of saving you. Unfortunately, low cutaways are generally the times that an RSL will save you - and under those conditions an AAD won't. >If my AAD fails, my RLS could save the day That's an odd statement since they are two very different things. It's like saying "if my main fails my flotation gear could save the day." Literally true in some situations but they're really not replacements for each other. >Cypres 2 expert will fire at 750' if the vertical speed is 35> m/s. If chopped below >this altitude, the cypres will fire when the chop is detected. It definitely will not; it has to reach firing speed first. (And that's MEASURED speed not ACTUAL speed.)[/reply] That's what I meant, should pick my words carefully, not so good at that, especially in my non-native language and especially over the internet : ) I also agree that you can't really compare or choose between the 2 of these (RSL vs AAD) , it both being completely different things with different tasks, kinda makes this an invalid discussion to begin with
  12. Could save the day. If I chop my main and my RSL doesn't work (for whatever reason, lets say it disconnected) and I don't pull my reserve handle, for whatever reason... Then there's a good chance my AAD will cut the reserve loop when the right parameters are met. If my AAD fails, my RLS could save the day, but only in case of a successful chop (risers+RSL leave). If there's no main out, then the RSL won't do a thing. I didn't mean to say that my AAD will 100% do the trick, but there's a significant chance that it will ;) THAT is scary! What do you find scare? The fact that my RSL wouldn't have made a difference, or my way of thinking? Cypres 2 expert will fire at 750' if the vertical speed is 35> m/s. If chopped below this altitude, the cypres will fire when the chop is detected. The unit will disengage from 140 ft and below, where cutting the reserve loop will definitely not make a difference anymore.
  13. AAD, if my RSL fails, my AAD could still save the day. This wouldn't work the other way around. Also managed to successfully pull silver myself twice, where a RSL would have done nothing, so under the same circumstances, I'd be very likely to do it again.
  14. Hmm maybe, are you tiny, grumpy in the morning and not the brightest bulb in the box? x
  15. Same for me and at least one other person. Something in the classifieds section is bugged :(
  16. Maybe going a bit off topic here, but would you have the same opinion concerning separation during freefly jumps?
  17. .... and are able to properly grab AND pull cutaway & reserve ripcord handles, able to grab riders to kick out linetwists etc. There's more to it then you'd do during an "all-goes-well" skydive. If the gloves don't keep you from being able to do all things you might have to do during yourjump, then they're suitable gloves
  18. I can tell you from my own experience that once the reserve pilot/freebag /reserve is out our the container it can 'make room' for the main to it's container. Had a pilot chute in tow, chopped it and went for silver. When I was under my reserve the main left , still it's bag. was actually hanging over my shoulder, was still connected to my rig by velcro from my RSL. Main never left the bag. The reserve leaving the container must have created additional room for the main bag to find its way out... since different rigs are just that (different) i'm sure the outcome of such mal will vary. Off course a whole lot of factors will influence what will happen (ie main canopy size /packing volume)
  19. I think it's just a slight variation on the technique. A packer taught me this method, when I just started packing and was having a hard time getting my canopy in the bag. Works quite well, getting the big fold first, put that in the bag and then get the smaller s-fold in the bag, between the bigger fold. Like you said, the end result is the same, the canopy is still in the bag the exact same way :)
  20. Not a instructor here, but maybe take som extra time with her. If she has really poor vission, maybe let her feel the airplane, the door, the rig, some parachute fabric etc? Good luck
  21. My tought exactly about this beingthe PH-JMP. And indeed one hell of a quick reaction from the second para, pushing the first one out. Things could have gotten bad real quick here

If you mean Teuge, no we don't get paid anything for a TRIP jump. Strictly freelance, and strictly for the fun of it. That's a little bit of a problem, because most of the TRIP coaches also do video/AFF/tandem or teamjumps so are busy a lot of the time. But usually if you call ahead you can find a TRIP coach to jump with you. Just not in this #$%^weather we're having Anyway, if you're looking for a cheaper starter rig to buy (or rent), make sure to talk to Eric @ Skydivesupplies (Teuge). Often it's possible to make a deal with him, so you can get your own rig sooner. Well, there you have it. Coaches do it for the love for the sport, no money is made, just the costs that are covered by students

Are you suggesting I should start a pig farm?

I'm aware of this, in the best case I'll be home when they come. Maybe a camera is a good idea, but I seriously lack the confidence in local police with matters such as these...
