I was planning on being in the NY/NJ area over this July 4th long weekend (airplane tickets have already been purchased). Now originally some people were talking of visiting "The Ranch" (I think you were one of them), but a few people also mentioned that they might like to check out this PST event in Wildwood (I know Dove was one if she'll still be in that neck of the woods at that time of the year). So I will keep my eyes and my ears open to some suggestions. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

And before you know it, many of these very same young people will start hanging around a certain bridge in a certain part of the country instead of hanging out at the various DZs. It's evil I tell you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

How about when the Broad Street Bullies beat up on the Red Army team back in (what year was it again) 1976? The toothless Bobby Clarke, Andre "The Moose" Dupont, Dave Shultz, Bernie Parent, etc, etc, etc. That was one bruiser of a team. This year's addition of the Flyers is a little hard to figure out. One night they look unbeatable, the next night they look mortal. Which team will show up tonight? Watch out for the Flames though ... here you have a young hungry team who's proving all the experts wrong (so far at least). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Stupid dilemma: I need credit so I can buy skydiving stuff!

Are you volunteering? Kelly Is Kelly taking Sugar-Daddy applications? From her avatar, she looks like a cutie. But if she wants me as her Sugar-Daddy, she better hurry up and pick me while I still have $$$ in the bank. Who knows how long I can stay employed as once the gravy train is dried up, I will have to dip into the retirement funds for my jumping addiction. Seriously, try not to get into so much debt that you can't get out of. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Keep in mind I only have 24 wingsuit jumps to date. But I have yet to experience this problem on my GTi. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Skyhooks (what appears to be a great invention) are only available on RWS rigs. This is not an option for people who jump non-RWS gear. I just love the way people don't read what other people say here on DZ.COM. Did I or did I not mention that my hard deck was pretty high at 2k? So I shouldn't be a high risk person for pulling low, (not to say that going low couldn't happen) and did I or did I not just mention that I was NOT an instructor nor a coach and was NOT looking to give students/newbies advice. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
Last time I checked I was not an instructor nor was I a coach. Students should not be asking me questions nor should I be giving them any advise. And before you start spewing crap about me giving advice here on DZ.COM, I am not giving advice. I am only voicing my opinion on my decision to not jump with an RSL. Besides aren't people supposed to listen to their instructors not to people on the net? DON'T LISTEN TO ME STUDENTS, AS I AM NOT YOUR MENTOR!!! As for needing an RSL because someone routinely goes low? Well might I suggest that they pull a little higher and not go through their hard decks with potential crap over their heads? Or would that be too logical as turning extra points below 3k is more important than one's safety? For the record: 1) I do jump with a camera on most jumps. 2) I occasionally will do CReW. 3) I want to be stable before I deploy my reserve. 4) I jump a highly loaded elliptical. 5) I usually pull at or around 3k and usually don't go low. 6) My hard deck is 2k. I have decided not to jump with an RSL. If I die because of this, well then that was the risk I was willing to take. RSLs are not for me. Enough said ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

How about trying to get stable before deploying one's reserve. Case in point, I have a spinning mal and am violently spinning on my back, I cut away and because of that damn RSL I am not stable and there is the potential for line twists on my reserve (or worse just look at what happens when someone deploys head low or deploys on their back). RSLs are good for students, low timers and people with little confidence. But they are not for everyone. I'd prefer to rely on myself to save my ass, not some device which will immediately deploy my reserve into potential shit. But that's just me. I have two rigs: On my multi-purpose rig I jump a Crossfire2 119 with a PD143R. And on my 2nd rig predominately used for wingsuit jumps, I have a Spectre 150 with a PD143R. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't have an RSL on either one of my skydiving rigs and as for my new BASE rig? Well ... enough said ... But that's just me ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Who said that you can't jump year round in Colorado
CanuckInUSA replied to dmbale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
From a skydiving point of view, I would think that attracting skydivers from around the country and across the world would be a good thing? We don't need any more whuffos here (there's already too many of them), but don't we need more skydivers? However for some reason, most people here on DZ.COM seem to think that CO is a crappy place to be, so maybe Eric's plan is working anyway. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Does anyone know anything about jumping in Labrador? Some nice big cliffs exist in that region of Newfoundland, but it is a remote part of the country (in Canada for those who don't know). I've been searching google this morning, but have yet to find anything good on the topic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well if that's the case, then maybe you should go elsewhere as most of the time, there is no snow on the ground here on the front range during the winter months. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Congrats on your 100th and yes CO is a pretty darn good place to jump. The rest of the country seems to think that we are snow bound and closed all of the time and therefore think CO is a bad place to be, but there is no accident that you have done 100 jumps since October or me with my jump numbers in my relatively low time in the sport. Helping low jump number skydivers

Your reply was uncalled for. Brits17 in no way was acting inappropriately with her response. I have yet to meet her in person (this may change in Twin Falls in less than a month), but she has always acted well and said good things here on DZ.COM and you slamming her was just wrong. Geez maybe one day we can all be as good as you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Serious question on ignored advice.
CanuckInUSA replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Safety and Training
Not sure I understand why your instructors want you to stay on F-111 canopies (outside of being easier to pack). But I guess they have their reasons. I fly a Spectre in my 2nd rig and have had a lot of fun with it shooting not only accuracy approaches, but also swooping with it. So it is a good choice for you. So far I can't seem to get over that 9 jumps hump (I've done 9 in one day close to 10 times now including last Sunday). But I have plans to shatter this sometime this summer (maybe close to 15-16) when the days are long, loads are plenty, both rigs are in action (which they already are) and I have a packer helping me out. There real key is to attempt to do this on a day when the DZ is flying many many many loads. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Kalyne ... I'll be up in Canada this weekend (I'm catching a flight later tonight) visiting with my sick father (cancer) with my slightly older brother and sister. So I won't be around to say good-bye. But I know you'll still be here on DZ.COM and no doubt we will run into each other at some other DZ. Good luck with your dreams ... Still Grounded (kinda long)
CanuckInUSA replied to FliegendeWolf's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Only you in your heart know this answer. Hopefully from a community point of view, the answer is no. But where ever your life takes you, make the most of each and every day. It's called life and we all have obstacles to overcome. Be pro-active with your life and your dreams. If something is meant to be, it'll happen. But often our dreams need to be chased. They don't always come to us without a little effort. Good luck ... and I hope to run into you at a boogie one day. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Money is a necessary evil. But it doesn't/shouldn't rule your life. Having money has allowed me to jump a lot these last couple of years. But I am just milking my well paid corporate America job while I can. Because sooner or later it will end and who knows maybe I'll cutaway for a while thanks to have a little money saved up (not enough to retire, but enough to have one bad ass year or more of jumping). Oh but I do agree with much of what many of your say about the topic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I just paid $75 last Sunday for a balloon jump and I got 5400 feet. Keeping in mind that I used a wingsuit and a friend video taped the jump, it was well worth the $$$. That wingsuit jump out of a balloon was one of the most wild and crazy things I have done (the video was posted on skydivingmovies.com). I can't wait to try it again.
