Hey Omar I think I too have the bug. I had a whole 12 hour drive back home to Denver last night to think about my experiences at the bridge this last weekend. I plan on hitting the Perrine more before I venture elsewhere (what a great environment they've got setup in Twin Falls), but an antena would also be fun. And I'm glad you found someone to go with as I remember you talking about not knowing anyone in your hood. Be safe, make good jump/no-jump choices, seek whatever canopy control training (either formal or just your own hop n' pops) and have fun. See you another day at some exit point. Please take what I am about to say with a total grain of salt as I am nothing more than a BASE newbie with a grand total of five jumps all from the slightly safer compounds of the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls Idaho. Here goes ... BASE jumping is serious shit requiring good decisions on when to jump and when to climb down, requiring good decisions while in freefall and especially requiring good decisions under canopy and having the appropriate canopy control skills. On most BASE jumps, you are not landing in a nice open landing area like we find at most DZ landing areas. Instead you are landing in tight confided areas often with trees, boulders and other stuff not friendly to the human bones. So you must ask yourself, do you have the appropriate personality to back down and come back another time when the jumping conditions are marginal? Do you have enough high stress experience both in deployments and under canopy. Do you have the skills and the knowledge to pilot your canopy into a tight landing area where if you don't make that landing area you're going to be hurt or killed? If you think you can handle the high stress, fast moving and unforgiving environment of BASE, then yes it's time to try it. But know that BASE is NOT skydiving and is an order of magnatude more dangerous that your DZ environment. BASE jumping rocks, but it must be respected if any of us who do it want a chance to grow old and grey. Good luck with whatever it is you decide to do and be smart with your choices. 0:5:1 No humps ... I might be able to fix this bad trend of mine ... at least I'm optimistic ... aghh shit it ain't going to happen is it ... Five BASE jumps at the Memorial Day boogie at the Perrine in Twin Falls ID. Not too bad considering that we got winded out for most of the weekend and I did decide twice NOT to jump due to the conditions at the time. Beer owed for my first BASE jump (a PCA off of the Perrine Sunday morning, plus four more hand held exits). Good fun I tell you, but it is a serious environment which requires good decisions, respect and good canopy control skills. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Thanks for the zipper fix info. I'll look into it later. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I haven't paid much attention to what the Feds want to do with the gun registration, so I'm really not qualified to be debating that issue here. But is this turning into yet another gun thread or is it about certain people (not Canadians) trying to change things in a country they have no jurisdiction in? http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2004/05/19/canada/guns040519 Once again, why is an American all worked up about the free speech in foreign country? Shouldn't Americans be more concerned about what is going inside of their own borders instead of trying to change what is going on in other countries (oops ... too late). I may be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet that most Americans don't give a shit about Canada. They know little about it's geography, history and current social values. So why the concern all of a sudden? Or is it that Americans only want to know that when they travel north of the border that they are allowed to verbally abuse people they don't like. Canada is a country of social tolerance. Let Canadians decide for themselves what is best for them (even though we don't always agree as to what is best for ourselves). It's what sets a democracy apart from other forms of government. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Awesome videos for sure. I'm not sure what part I liked the most: 1) The athleticism of the aerobatics. 2) The locations of the exit points. 3) The video editing (I loved the slow-mo waterfall footage). 4) Chasing the Porter with wingsuits (or were they just tracking?) Good stuff I tell you ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I know you have Canadian roots, so I will reply to you. I still think it's kind of funny that a bunch of Americans are arguing about a proposed Canadian law which won't in any way effect them. I mean after all, how many of these Americans even care that Canada exists yet here they are all up in arms because they fear that they won't be able to verbally bash their favorite minority group if/when they visit Canada? Shit most of them couldn't even locate where Toronto is compared to Calgary if you showed them a map with no names on it. Yet they are all up in arms about the freedom of speech in a country they know little about. Hey what's the chance that this law will even be passed before the election next month? It's my understanding that Canada could very well have a minority government soon and passing any law with a minority government is pretty much impossible. So all you "I have to have to right to threaten anyone I want in a country I likely will never visit" people may still get your wish. Now back to the really important stuff north of the border. Can the Flames take game #2 tonight? Unfortunately I won't be able to see it as I'll be in my car on my was up to Twin Falls tonight while the game is in progress. The WFFC is not at all like your typical weekend. With that many airplanes and that many canopies in the air, it can be an intimidating thing for the newer jumper. To the originator of this post, I ask how's your canopy control? Do you think you can safely land out? Because if you do enough jumping at the WFFC, I can pretty much guarantee to you that you will need to land out on at least one of your jumps. Ask Lewmonst how she feels about landing her reserve in a tight residential neighborhood. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang ... where were you on Sunday when my zipper broke? It's not your fault, but this info could have come in handy then. Oh well, I'm sure the repaired zipper will break again at some point and then I can visit the Boulder Outdoor Repair people. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It's kind of funny reading about a bunch of Americans arguing about free speech in Canada when most Canadians are thinking about the Calgary Flames being up 1-0 in the Stanley Cup finals. LOL ... Canada is not a perfect country, but they are a free country very much like the good ole' US of A. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I guess we weren't watching the same game? What I saw was one of the best players in the world (Iggy) make an unbelievable play to stop, retrieve the puck and shoot the puck into the net at a super sharpe angle and all this while avoiding the brunt of the check by the so called guilty party on Tampa Bay who chocked. Calgary wanted this game more and were willing to work for it. Don't forget that the Flames beat Vancouver, Detroit and San Jose (all 100+ point teams) to get to where they are. Up 1-0 in the finals. One game does not make a series. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

So...what are your plans for the evening?
CanuckInUSA replied to ladyskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
1) To get at least two BASE practice pack jobs in. 2) Do some laundry for the up and coming long weekend. 3) Do a small amount of cleaning at my pad before the weekend. 4) Watch some video (BASE + freeflying) if time permits. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I took a wingsuit out of a balloon for my Devil Jump. By the way ... I'm not an atheist ... I'm agnostic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't think this is very good advice to be giving to someone who has never sewn a stitch, has no idea how to use a sewing machine and all this to a $900 suit which needs to be properly stitched in order to be safely taken into the skies. I know it's my fault for not being a rigger and not knowing how to sew, but what can I say? It's my life on the line and I don't think I should be making modifications to a wingsuit without the proper sewing knowledge. Therefore, the suit has be sent back for repairs. If this turns out to be a recuring issue (zippers breaking on me), then I guess I will need to find somewhere where I can buy better zippers and then find someone who can replace the zippers for me (or maybe I should spend the time to become a rigger, but there just aren't enough hours in the day for me to be doing this right now). Great visuals from some jumps this last weekend
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Myself and a newer skydiver were treated to some great visuals this last weekend thanks to my wingsuit. You see on one of my jumps while still flying the wingsuit, I flew by a tandem under canopy (I didn't buzz them so I wasn't that close) before pitching at 3k. But once on the ground I found out that they didn't see me. But on the subsequent jump, the same scenario happened only this time the visuals were given to a newer jumper under canopy who mentioned that not only did he see me while still flying the suit, but he also got to watch my opening. Good fun I tell you ... now if only my suit wasn't broken (the zipper on the right leg broke on this last jump). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
The right leg zipper on my somewhat new GTi wingsuit broke this weekend (only 27 jumps on the suit) and I have been told by others that the zippers in use have been known to break. So how many other people have had these sort of problems with their suits? I'm not worried about jumping the suit next weekend (big non-skydiving plans are in the works), but in two weeks another opportunity to do a wingsuit balloon jump will happen. But it's not looking very promising for me to have my suit functional by then. So it's safe to say that I'm a tad dissappointed right now. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

0:10:1 No humps ... 2 freefly jumps, 3 wingsuit, 2 hop n' pops with my Spectre canopy, 2 hop n' pops with my new BASE canopy and 1 sunset tracking dive to end it all. Beer owed for jumping my new BASE canopy for the first time on a couple of hop n' pops (never knew flying such a big canopy could be so much fun). Oh and on the downside, one of the leg zippers on my wingsuit broke, so I won't be flocking for the next few weeks. Next stop ... Twin Falls ID and my FJC over the Memorial Day weekend. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Recently myself and some of my co-ed volleyball friends were talking about this sort of topic and one of the girls said "we like to use them and abuse them, but we don't want to see them". So who cares if you are big or small. As long as some girl is interested in using and abusing you, then you're headed in the right direction. Sorry to hear about your injury Alana. I'll send you my "Get well vibes" for what they're worth. Hope to see you at another boogie soon. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I may have made a mistake in putting this huge label on my canopy. But I didn't make a mistake with this canopy. I hooked it up to a student skydiving rig today and made two hop n' pops on it and thoroughly enjoyed flying it. It was a lot more sporty than I expected and it flares well. I'm now very happy with my canopy. Next stop ... Twin Falls ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Gotta like the 7th game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs!!! Of course it's easier to watch when you're team isn't playing. But fun nonetheless. Good luck to both teams ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

At the moment, my Idaho plans are still a go. Of course this could all change if the injury doesn't heal to a certain degree by next week. I am injured, but it doesn't appear to be a serious injury. What sucks is that I still have plenty of packing practice I need to do and packing requires getting down there with bent knees and all. Plus I was hoping to jump the Flik canopy at the DZ this weekend. So time will tell. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
