  1. I was just thinking that ABC should show a commercial free unedited double header tonight. They should show "Saving Private Ryan" followed by "Blackhawk Down". This way their American audience can not only see the nasty side of war, but also how nasty urban war is (in reference to what is going on in Fallujah) and that American soldiers well well trained and armed, still die in war (not to mention the deaths of the people the US soldiers fight). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Unless someone can assure me that "Saving Private Ryan" will be shown tonight commercial free, unedited and in widescreen format. I have no reason to tune into ABC. I'll just pop in my DVD copy instead (assuming I actually want to watch it tonight). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Hey Tony. Now I'm no BASE authority, but the 39 slider down/off openings which I have experienced (taking no more than a 2 1/2 second delay ... usually much less) look much worse than they actually are. If you have good body position and are not head low, then you really aren't slammed as bad as the video makes it look like you are slammed. Now as previously noted by others, if you take a 3+ second delay, well I don't even want to think about it. If you want to do this out of a helicopter (or a balloon) and are jumping a skydiving container with reserve, then go for it (just don't take a 3+ second delay). Otherwise get yourself up to the span in potato-land to experience a slider down/off opening as they are intended to be jumped. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Hmmm ... I can't help but think of "A Clockwork Orange" right about now. To date it is my favorite war movie and I can't help but remember how shocked I felt that first day I walked out of the theater and how happy I was that "to-date" I had yet NOT had to experience what those soldiers had to go through. WAR is nasty and should only be engaged when all else has failed. I wonder if GWB feels the same way? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. So why don't you bring this up with your local government representatives. I think it is a good idea and a much better idea than having bias religious warning labels placed on science text books (as some of your school superintedents seems to want to push on the public). While some students are in science class, your children can be in some other class. And if enough people in Georgia decide that science contradicts their religious beliefs, then so be it. Science will not be taught in Georgia. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. You trying to imply something here in reference to not helping out the people in need and WTF do your comments have to do with the original topic at hand, why some people in the state of Georgia connected to their education system, in trying to supress certain science topics in public schools. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. I'm planning on privately observing my minute of silence one more hour from now (I'm in the mountain time zone). But I don't have a poppy because I'm in Colorado where people don't know about this day and poppies are not available. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. I took something good away from what Spizzarko said about jumping Velocity canopies (hey I've seen the dude fly his canopy and respect his skill and experience) and he did address the wingloading question on his next post. There are numerous people in my area jumping velos (some with plenty of experience and some ... well ... no comment ...) and I thought it was good to know that a Velocity might be a more demanding cross-braced canopy than a compareable cross-braced canopy. 9. Yes good point. How do the hardcore religious people think that Adam and Eve (two people I don't believe in) appeared on earth? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. It's actually called Remembrance Day ... the day to commemorate that the armistice was signed to end World War I. And a minute of silence is honored on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. I'm sure you know this, I said it for the others who didn't. Did you get your poppy? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. I'm with on this one Keely. However, you do believe in the Tooth Fairy don't you? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. If you follow Eloy's program you will be doing both. But keep in mind that your tandem(s) will be a working tandems where you are expected to pull the rip cord and then your instructor will guide you with instruction while you fly the canopy. I did one tandem before I made my AFF jumps and am happy with what transpired. But I believe that being a licensed pilot first before I was helpful when it came to my canopy flights. My instructors didn't need to guide me with a radio because I was already familiar with setting up in a pattern for landing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Airman seems to think they do. He seems upset that his children are being taught something that he obviously doesn't believe in. So the solution seems simple. But I don't understand why he wants public schools to teach what should only be taught in private religious schools. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. The solution to this is easy. Send your children to a private religious school where all that is taught is reading, writting, athrimetic and religious study. If you don't like your children being educated in the sciences, don't send them where science is taught. But to force public schools to teach non-christian students christian studies is wrong. 15. Dude I would be happy (who wouldn't be happy at the thought of eternal life in paradise). But this is a loaded question as there is no way in hell (excuse the pun) that you guys can prove the Bible to the true. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. If Mother Nature cooperates, yes. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. You sure you don't want to sell him that VX-60 instead? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Hey Spizz I'm not planning on changing canopies anytime soon. I want to be rock solid on my CF2 including flying my rears on my swoops and well I'm not rock solid (slowly getting there) nor am I using my rears on my swoops. But based on your opinions about the various cross-braced canopies you've jumped, which is a good one to start with. I'm thinking you're going to say the FX, but maybe I'm wrong. Oh and isn't the 2.0:1 to 2.2:1 the range of wingloading to at least start off with with cross-braced canopies? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Skydive Arizona commonly referred around here as Eloy is a world class DZ. Plus in the future, click the "Post New" button instead of the "New Poll" button. Polls are for ... well setting up a poll to get people's opinions about a certain topic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I absolutely agree with you here. It's the same as myself doing myself in with skydiving or BASE jumping. I would be disrespecting these sports just as I would be disrespecting gun supporters if I was to shoot myself. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. My concern here in SC isn't whether or not people agree or disagree with assisted suicide. It is that GWB, Ashcroft and their conservative Christian right base have already begun their attempts to change a law which the people of Oregon have voted on because they don't mesh with their morals. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Your poll is totally flawed (but that's okay as many of us are also guilty of creating flawed polls). I put about 90 jumps on a Sabre2 190 (never slammed) before moving on to a Sabre2 170 and put about 225 jumps on that canopy and did get slammed once. But I'd be willing to bet that this slammer was a result of a packing error (the slider was likely not all the way up against the slider stops). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. Well it looks like the next four years are going to be very interesting and very controversial to say the least. The feds (GWB, Ashcroft and the rest of the conservative Christian right wingers) have decided that the good people of Oregon should not be allowed to control their own laws despite the fact that the people of Oregon have decided some of these laws through their own election processes. Whitehouse wants suicide law blocked Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. I absolutely agree that she needs to talk to her instructors and knowing the area (if studying a map helps) is good. But I am concerned that you're trying to suggest that someone needs to set a flight plan so that they except to be in the same spot in the sky at the same altitude on every jump. Each jump is unique and conditions from one jump to the next will never be the same (weather conditions change, every exit out of the aircraft will leave you in a different part of the sky and air traffic will always differ). People need to learn (through instruction and experience) how to fly their canopies in this ever so changing dynamic environment. So to suggest that one expects to be in the same part of the sky at the same altitude is wrong, at least wrong in my mind. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. I don't want to call either evolution or creation as fact, but the scientific evidence does lean towards evolution. As an agnostic, I can't rule out the possibility that a creator (commonly referred to as God) started it all and possibly guided evolution to where it is today. But that is beyond my comprehension. Evolution is a theory and having people approach things with open minds is good. We differ here if you think this disclaimer needs to be mentioned in science class. The students brought up with Christianity will already be aware of how their faith of creation differs from the theory of evolution. We're obviously on different sides of the fence (I have tried Christianity, but it didn't work for me), but I have a new-found respect for you to say this.
