skreamer 1 #26 November 13, 2002 Perhaps in this case Tom Berenger was stressed about the jumping and didn't want to be disturbed. Remember he was a low-timer when this was filmed and probably needed to focus mentally. Jaime (Jumpergirl) was on quite a few loads with Tom and his wife when filming finished and said they were really nice people.
wildblue 7 #27 November 13, 2002 QuoteDennis Rodmans double was a white guy, so it is pretty hard to tell who is a double and who isn't. That's probably why Rodman's character was always, and the only one, wearing a fullface helmet. But there's good number of scenes where it's obviously Baldwin. I'm embarassed to say this, but I actually watched some of it on DVD with the directors commentary. It's actually intersting. He was saying that Baldwin actually kept sneaking off to go jump.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
Guest #28 November 13, 2002 QuoteQuoteBoth Tom Berenger and his wife got their A-license. (he got his shortly after filming finished) I don't recall if he ever got an A-number, but he certainly qualified for it, and paperwork was submitted to the USPA. Baldwin, too. I don't know whether Berenger's wife finished the program. To the best of my knowledge, neither of them skydives now. QuoteAn extra walked up to Tom (who generally sat by himself) and asked him to sign an autograph. Tom said he was too busy. Within 5 minutes, a crew member came over and said that if any extras talked to the cast anymore that all extras would be let go. I know that they are working. I don't know what that involves mentally. However, he could have just said to see him at end of the day. Instead, he was threatening the job of a guy who makes $70 a day for an 10-hour day. I thought he was a butthead for that. People who know him better may like him. Most of the other actors seemed ok. The crew guys were just doing their job and seemed like a fun crowd. On a movie set, time=money, and lots of it. I doubt the dismissal threat was initiated by Berenger. Rather, he likely complained to the crew that he was being bugged for autographs when he was trying to work, and the crew laid down the law. Berenger is a professional actor and was there being paid to work, not socialize. He takes his job seriously. It was also bad form for an extra to walk up to him when he's working on a film shoot and ask him for an autograph. This was very unprofessional of the extra (who didn't know better, but show biz has a very strict set of unwritten rules, and doesn't cut any slack for newbies). If they weren't sure, they should have asked a crewmember first. This would have been embarassing, but would have prevented disruption on the set. Besides, there's usually plenty of time for autographs, pictures, etc. at the wrap party. However, the handlers were at fault for not making it clear to the extras that it's bad form. They knew they were working with newbies, and they should have briefed them. Why do I know this? Several reasons. First, I was an extra in "Navy Seals" (Sheen, et al, shot in Va in 1988. The handlers swore all hell and damnation upon any extra who approached the principals for any reason during the filming day), and was asked to leave the set of "Assassins" (1995 Stallone pic shot in Seattle) for committing a similar faux pas (I spoke to the director while he was working). Finally, I interviewed Berenger for Skydiving Magazine (July 2000 issue). mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
 PLFXpert 0 #35 November 13, 2002 No biggie, sillyI do think it's funny the whole idea of asking for autographs. Maybe it's just me but actor or not, star or not, big hot shot name in skydiving or not, I'm not a star-struck kinda girl. To me, you're cool if you are genuine and honest. That could mean being egotistical and saying, "Hey, I'm full of myself, that's me, take it or leave it" and then we're cool b/c you meet the criteria of being genuine and honest. But, just b/c everyone else might think your cool, doesn't necessarily mean I do. "Coolness" has to be earned. Therefore, autographs mean little to me w/out knowing someone in person. I understand admiring someone's work, etc...but how many people that ask for autographs really admire the person's work rather than just want something to brag about to their friends?
