Since I live in San Antonio and jump at Sky Dive San Marcos, that would be my choice. Houston is about 3 hours away and Dallas about four. There are I think around 14 operating dropzones in the state.
SAT has a respectable and improving job market and its the best big city to live poor in. Also you can't get real Tex Mex food in any of those other places.
Just a thought.

Texas!

Get past Dallas, get around San Antonio or a little more east and North of H-town (don't want to live in H-town) and you'll find happiness. North Texas gets some snow sometimes (about every 2 years), but you'll find it noice down here. You know, there happens to be a kickass turbine DZ just north of Houston called SD Aggieland. You should look into it.;)

I voted Arizona myself. Georgia is nice too. I don't know about New Mexico and jumping, but I bet it's a nice place to live too.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh

Florida. is the only option.

Arizona is great for jumping, but it gets VERY hot in the summer. There is skiing, and places to ride, but most days in the summer you will be hiding from the heat. Bad if you have to work outside.

The high desert of New Mexico is VERY great. However, not much jumping there. Good for ridding.

Texas...Do you need a reason to stay away from Texas?!?!?!?;) The DZ's are nice, but it also gets VERY hot in the summer. Like people die kinda hot.
You don't want to work out side in that weather.

Georgia...Well if you can't have FL...This is pretty good. However it still snows there at times, and worse it gets cold enough to. Atlanta is ok....But we have a saying about Atlanta.. "The good thing about Atlanta is it is not really in Georigia." If you live away from ATL....You enter nowhere.

Fl. has more DZ's that all of your choices. And out of those DZ's most in the center of the state have otters full time. Hell I can get a porter, skyvan, otter, or even a cessna at DeLand alone.
You can ride an ATV anywhere. Yes it gets hot...Well around 98-99, but it feels hotter...And FL has beaches.
I moved to FL.

WHY FLORIDA?

I mean Common! About the only thing you cannot do in Florida is Snow-Ski.

We have everything. More DZ's within an hour and a half of one another than most states have all together.

Beautiful Beaches where you do not freeze upon getting into the water.

Nice lakes and rivers to Water-Ski on.

Deep Sea Fishing. Very easy to charter a boat for that.

You can also charter a boat to the Bahamas.

Numerous amusement parks and theme restaurants.

THE WIND TUNNEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DID I MENTION SEVERAL TURBINE DZ'S!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your wife should make a trip down here and check it out before just saying no! :D

Ron gave you enough reasons to disreguard the other places and choose Florida as well.

Come see us at Z-Hills and we can show you around.

If I were able to, I'd move to Florida also - (I feel I should wait until I'm 100% vested in my 401(k) and until my daughter graduates HS-) - WX is decent, you have many kickass DZs all over the place, many gear manufacturers in the area, and BEACHES! (read- eye candy!)
I understand the income base in Florida isn't as high as in other parts of the country, but cost of living is quite lower, too.

I would also consider the Carolinas, and Texas. I spent the best three years of my early adult life in Austin. Kickass town.

Easy Does It

What about sharks at florida beaches?

I have been in the water around Sharks and Gators.

There is no such thing as a Shark attack since you are in their home and confusing them.

Sharks do not like human meat. All they know is that there is a frenzy in the water and they go after it. The damage is great becuase of the size of their mouth and teeth.

Anyway you can avoid these by not going in the water if you live a scared life.

A couple of places on that list have Huge Dust Devils and Tornados. These usually come without warning. Not to mention those same areas destroy the ZP on the canopy.

The Best Choice is Florida. :D

Don't let them fool you about FL, it's hot most of the year. You have to really be sick of cold weather and like the tropics to live here. It's depressing to me when it turns hot in March to know that I won't get any relief from the heat until November. You can't really go outside and do anything without melting in the humidity.

I think I'll go apply for a postion on the tourism board now. :P

Out of the choices listed, I'd say Georgia-Check around the Northwest mountain area. It might be worth looking around the Greenville/Spartanburg area of South Carolina. Good riding trails around here in the mountains and only a 4 hr drive from the beach. Center up and you're 2 hrs away from Skydive Carolina, 2 hrs from Skydive Monroe, and less than an hr from Flying Tigers SPC.
www.greenvilleonline.com is the local newpaper and may have classified ads. I've heard advertisements from www.upstatehelpwanted.com but I don't know if it's any good.

Always remember that anyplace is what you make of it.

If all you can do is Bitch then you are going to be miserable no matter where you are. All places have drawbacks.

The best thing to do is write down the pros/cons of each place you are considering and make a decision from that. If you have the time visit each place for a bit to see what it is like and ask the locals.

The fact that one individual only knows how to sit around and bitch about the hot weather while being one faceted should not influence your decision.

There are numerous things to do in Florida as I have stated earlier.

Lived in Texas (5yrs), Georgia (6yrs) and Florida(17 yrs) My vote would be Florida for all the reasons Kramer mentioned. Yes Central Florida and the Gulf coast get very hot and humid, therefore I would recommend the East Coast from Melbourne down to West Palm. Too crowded everywhere else. Plus the fishing is great and the water much bluer( cleaner) than the Gulf. Just my opinion:)

:D OMG! This post looks so familiar. Been there...done that.

When I was checking out places to move, I researched quite a few states - all south of Wisconsin, of course. ;) I had been to Florida previously and made visits to Texas and California. While doing the research, I checked out Homefair.com for cost/quality of living comparisons. I, also, PM'd quite a few people about why the area they live in would be a good place for me. And, I visited a few of the places.

I chose to move to California - loved the mountains, loved Elsinore, loved the DZ.commers that I'd be hanging out with, ignored the cost of living comparison. I'm no longer living in California :D....I'm now living in Florida.

I absolutely love Florida - the greenery, ZHills, the people (even people who don't know you are really friendly and say "Hi"), cost of living, the tunnel, the beaches, the temperatures - I mean...wow! :o I was able to wear shorts in December. Job availability is good - I had a job within 3 weeks of moving here. I could go on and on about what is great in Florida, but I think you get the picture.

My suggestion....do your research, narrow your list down to "x" number of places you'd be interested in living, go visit the places and make your decision.

Good luck!

What about sharks at florida beaches?

Or is that mumbo jumbo on national geographics, and discovery just that and nothing is true?

Since 1882 there have been 488 shark attacks in FL.
14 were fatal.

4 attacks per year, One fatal every 8.57 years.

Since 1995 there have been 66 skydiving fatalities in Florida.

There are a hell of a lot more people at the beaches than skydiving.

How do find skydiving safe enough, but are afraid to go to the beach?

The answer you, and all humans have afear of being eaten.

But skydiving is clearly more dangerous.

Good Lord, Kramer, calm down. That's a little extreme for just disagreeing with you about the weather! I'm not miserable anywhere I go, I make the most out of life everyday. Anyone who knows my personality (which you do!) knows I'm almost always smiling and am rarely in a bad mood. I'm just stating the obvious. Florida IS hot and muggy and many people can't take it. He said it was already ruled out by his wife anyway, so I'm sure the heat was something she had already considered.
