First flights (on my demo Prodigies) and flocking at Nethers this weekend, organised by Liz Ashley, tell me you're coming on eightwayliz (at) yahoo.co.uk or just turn up on Saturday and I'll organise what I've got

My first two V1 jumps I used leg pouch and really wasn't happy finding it in freefall - could never find it first time, only after fumbling. I did multiple sets of 2 practice pulls, and each time I only got it cleanly on the 2nd try. But I could easily find the corner of my container where it WOULD be if I'd packed it BOC. 3rd jump onwards I packed it BOC and been fine since then, done about 100 on V1 now. Just my preference. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

Yup, I got this yesterday. Am having some fun exchanging a few emails with him actually, will post back here if anything really funny happens. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school -
I've got an I3 with a Hornet 135 and loads of room leftover. Wouldn't recommend using a bigger bag than the container's made for - canopy fabric expands to fit the space available and so it'll be much harder for the bag to lift out of the container, risking hesitations or even pilot chute in tow (container open) - not nice as it'll probably go nowhere when you chop it and then release when it gets space to do so as the reserve's deploying... not what you want. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

Mike, have a look at Kate's rig - she's got a V308 with a PD126R, Cypres and Pilot 132. And my V306 has got a MicroRaven 120, Pilot 124 and Cypres 2 but it is TIGHT!! I packed a PD126R into it twice in 2 days and had to admit that it looked pregnant! Kind of 3 months gone rather than 5 though if that helps! This is a bit unscientific, but the 306 says it's made for a Stiletto 120 and I can squeeze a Pilot 124 in there. So as the 308 is made for a Stiletto 135, I'd say putting a Pilot 140 in there would be about the same. I really don't think i'd get a 132 in mine, so that'd indicate the 150 won't fit in yours. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

I had both eyes Lasek-ed last November. Really didn't enjoy the actual experience, and very uncomfortable for a few days but then driving a week later, back to work etc. Really meant to not jump for longer than I managed - I was a full time instructor/rigger in the UK so figured I could not jump for a bit and just do rigging... then did one or two about 2-3 weeks after the surgery, then nothing for another month. Didn't swim either which was hard cos I normally go every day. My experience was that they are over-cautious and you'll probably be fine to jump quite soon... but if you can avoid it for a bit then you might as well in the interests of being sensible. My vision is now perfect I think, need an eye test to get the professional opinion on that but I've got no complaints! I see you're in the UK so if you ever see me on a dropzone (Nethers or the 8way Nationals probably best bets) then feel free to ask questions Liz www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

UK - Norhampton Balloon Festival next weekend...
smiler replied to brabzzz's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Yeah the Black Knights are jumping in this year www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school -
Not for everybody, only until you've got your B licence (50 jumps, CH2 and JM1 plus already having your A licence). Good idea to have one though. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

Same happening at Nethers too, Skyvan and first flights... gonna be a good weekend for UK wingsuiting

On something like a Javelin or any similar setup where the RSL goes around the cable near the back of the neck, yes. But on a TearDrop, the RSL goes around the reserve ripcord next to the handle, at the end of the housing, on the left of the jumper's torso. There's nowhere else for it to go... www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

And the winner was.... only joking James. Mac won't be too impressed by the BBC saying he's in the RAF!! www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school -
Jack, if there's somewhere else (safe!) on your rig that you would rather have the tag, I'll happily re-tag it for you at Nethers

David is here, and so am I.... see ya soon James

Got a rubbish computer that wouldn't open anything, and am in the UK so didn't want to call the States as expensive - so was comparing getting a reply to an e mail from RWS to getting a reply to a post on here! Sorry! Did try their website but couldn't open the pdf. Thanks for finding the figure for me. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

Anyone know how much it costs to retrofit a Skyhook onto a Micron? I've searched but haven't found out, and this'll probably be quicker than contacting the manufacturer...

I was the wingsuiter in Mike's experience above - it was before I got my V1 so it would have been in a GTi. I remember landing a long time after Mike and going "yeah, that was awesome" until I saw the white look on his face...he thought he'd just really messed up my day. There was enough fluffy cloud around that he hadn't seen me throughout his whole canopy ride so he'd spent a long time not knowing if I was ok... www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

No, it was a bit more. The biggest successful FS load at Herc Boogie 04 was a 78 way with a few cameras, I think most loads had 75-80 skydivers on board. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

Riggers - how many reserve REPACKS and SAVES do you have?
smiler replied to skydiverek's topic in Gear and Rigging
600+ repacks, 13 saves that I know about. #1 took me out for dinner after, all the rest have got me anything from a drink in the bar to a bottle of Baileys and some chocolate! Except for one who said "I paid you when you packed it, didn't I?" www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school -
I can't get the link to work... What is the "opposite" situation? Below what vertical speed will the Pro-Track NOT sound? Or in other words, how slow do I have to go in my wingsuit to not hear an alarm?! (in normal or slo mode?) www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

WHO ARE YOU???!!! Amanda Higgins - came to Nethers for the first time last year during one of the PD coaching weekends, loved the place so wrote a nice review. Lives up north so hasn't been back, certainly doesn't work here! Steve Burry - who? Caroline Hughes - load organises for slots, has chosen Nethers as somewhere she enjoys doing this. Fastfallrigging - Phill Elston - regular face around the DZ, not employed by Nethers though, yes he makes his living as a rigger, so...?! Kyle Thomas - comes and fun jumps with the uni crowd, as Frank says, you've got the wrong Thomas! Kath Salisbury - has been jumping at Nethers since the 80s, gets paid when she teaches a static line course but that's it. Dale - never worked here Mike Lewis - runs some good stuff (FS and canopy coaching) but does it as an experienced jumper with an interest in helping others progress, he's not "staff" Me - I've avoided putting a review on here because I really do work there, but I do it because I love it. 2005 was the best year I've seen for Nethers and 2006 is looking even better already, got world class coaches coming back again, new wingsuit school starting up in 4 weeks and counting, renovations over Xmas including really good heating and a touch-screen signing in board. Plus all the usual parties, night jumps, coaching, load organising, teams, brilliant facilities, wealth of experience, tons of kit, 2 turbine aircraft plus a piston Islander for the tandems, and lots of friendly faces who all get understandably protective about the occasional coward slagging the place off on the internet. As for Piers, well you can't expect to be a British Army Officer and get away with biting the hand that feeds you. He may have slagged the place off but he still kept coming back for the cheap military-rate jumps, until this was considered to be cheeky beyond belief by the people at the top. Phoenix-Fly Stand at BPA AGM, UK 21st Jan
smiler replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Wing Suit Flying
James and Jack, see you both there -
What if you have a hard cutaway and need to use both hands on it? If you've already peeled the reserve pad then you've just given yourself a floating reserve pad (which ok, SHOULD be easily found by following the cable, but if you're belly to earth then it could hide itself under your armpit/along your side. No need! Also it's now easier to dislodge the reserve with your left upper arm/elbow as you struggle to cutaway with two hands...?) I'd say finish cutting away before you start (peeling and) pulling reserve. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school

Yup, the CYPRES Dealer Letter November 2005 has just arrived on my desk. Speed Cypres 2 can be recognised by the red button with the white imprint "Speed" on the control unit (same as how Student and Tandem have this written on the control unit). Actiuvation speed has been lifted from 35m/s on the standard Cypres2 to 43m/s on the Speed model. That's now 155km/h or 96mph. It also won't activate below 330feet or 100m AGL. There's a whole load of info about who might want to use a Speed Cypres 2, and disclaimers regarding wingsuits etc. Also that it is still very difficult to get a Cypres2 to activate anyway. It concludes by saying: * The Speed Cypres 2 should only be used by skydivers who really need it * We do not recommend its use unless the skydiver has understood all its properties and the difference to an Expert Cypres with all consequences * The Speed Cypres 2 will be offered at the same price as the Expert/Student/Tandem Cypres 2 * Conversion from another Cypres2 model to the Speed Cypres 2 can be made without charge. www.wingin-it.co.uk Wingin' It wingsuit school
