Shattered and compressed my tibial plateau last year. The hardware wasn't painful, but it was annoying. I felt it sometimes and I found it kinda difficult to kneel in the plane to get gear checks, etc. The hardware restricted my ability to sit back on my heels, as well as other movement a little bit. Once I got the hardware out I was good as new. Doc didn't want to remove it cause he's of the belief that you shouldn't cut open unless necessary. But I told him I am very active and I was aware of it all the time and I didn't want to have discomfort for the rest of my life, no matter how slight. So he agreed and it was the best thing for me. If you can be au naturel, why not? Just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide. Edited to say that I had read lots of posts on mybrokenleg.com from people who waited a long time to get it out. Some got it out eventually due to complications with it (body can eventually reject it) or because of another surgery and as long as the doc was in there he took it out. ALL of them said they didn't realize how much their hardware limited them until they had it out and it was such an immense difference. They all said they wish they had it taken out way sooner. 27 jumps this past week:only 9 this weekend:tons Made 9 freakin' incredible jumps with some of the best freefliers in the world this weekend. Losta cool firsts.... first foot to foot dock - both with me in a sit/stand and with me in a headdown. Schweet! The one with me in a headup we turned 720 degrees! DId a closed accordian, again both on my head and on my feet. Did a buncha other really cool shit I don't even know the names for (california roll I think?) Finally met Betsy, though only briefly. I had a great time in Eloy - only disappointment was finding out they quit jumping so early due to heat. But other than that - Eloy rocks! Fall in dove.

1 hard opening that apparently damaged the nerves in my back enough so that they bled and left the back of my legs black and blue for weeks. (hehe - I was married at the time... try hiding that from your husband!) 1 freefall collision resulting in 2 broken ribs, bruised lung, nerve damage in my arm, almost bit my tongue completely off, and trauma to stomach, diaphragm and intestines. 1 shattered/compressed tibial plateau from locking my knee on landing. DOH! Non-weight bearing for 12 weeks, 2 weeks partial and then 2 more weeks till I jumped again. 1 broken thumb from who-knows-what on a jump. I've reached my quota, thank you. I am done with injuries. Fall in dove.
