tach- is the root for "speed" (from the Greek). Tachycardia is the medical term for rapid heartbeat. Other kinds of meters that are fun to say, especially if you can say them correctly: sphygmomenometer anemometer (this could segue right into the "fun words" thread!) ... and of course those word should be followed by, "doot DOO doo doo doot!" What is the worst alien movie you've ever watched?
TriGirl replied to promise5's topic in The Bonfire
It's even worse if you've read the book (meaning, book was awesome!). Switching to alien movies I liked: Paul. Laughed my ass off! And of course you have Galaxy Quest. See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump! -

I'll echo what Ski said -- how long is your PCS? And add: have you found a dropzone near where you'll be? (or better yet, how often will you be able to travel to a location where there is a place to jump?) If you still decide to take you rig in one of your shipments, I recommend packing it yourself in a durable plastic bin (riggers can chime in on requirements). Movers will take stuff you've packed yourself -- you just have to sign a waiver saying you packed it. Some might require looking inside before you tape it up, but I recommend taping the bin yourself, signing the tape in several places, and annotating that box number on the invoice as "valuable." Then again, how long will your HHG take to get there after pick-up? Will your reserve still be in date by then? And are you sure it is an option to include in a consumables shipment? AIR, consumables are picked up at the store/vendor of your designation (Commissary, Sam's Club, other grocery store). If you're referring to UAB (unaccompanied baggage) instead, then disregard this concern. See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump!

Uh huh. That's what you said in 2011. I was supposed to as well, but didn't. So sue me. I should be able to go this time.

True... so... you going this time? Unfortunately, no. Kind of tough to get there from Turkey this year. Have to save up to come home for Nationals. See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump!

popjumper Easier said than done!! Thanks for the pic. Not my personal style to wear as an accessory, but I can totally see the diamonds set in the same order/pattern in a lapel pin. It is a kind of popular style for engagement rings (a bit more bling to the round solitaire), so I'd put that in the solitaire category of my original post/suggestion. However, I also reference my other point (and that of so many others): if you like it, wear it.
-
First, I would ask whether it is the simple, diamond solitare, or some other kind of design. The reason I ask is that a diamond solitare is usually just used as an engagement ring. In that case, I say wear it on another finger, and "it's just a pretty ring." (go into the story or not, depending on the situation). Another option for solitare is to make it into something else, as many have suggested. In that case, you aren't destroying something unique, you're just making the diamond sparkle some other way. If it is some other kind of design, then wear it on any finger you like, with the same attitude: it's a pretty ring. From the very first item, I could hear the first two columns being recited in the voice of one of my British colleagues here! He's going to have a good laugh when he reads these. See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump!

Are you serious? Because in my experience the opposite is true. Not specific to the US, but I'd say English speakers in general are the most likely to subscribe to the raise-your-voice-and-talk-slowly-in-your-own-language school of communication abroad. We're lucky that so much English is spoken in foreign countries. Indeed. See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump!

Point of clarification: the one who died is NOT the one who gave the answers, but the one who passed them through to the floor nurse in the first place. The radio hosts never thought they would get someone to talk to them, so they were kind of put on the spot when they actually did get passed through. FWIW, the woman (DJ) did say she was calling about her granddaughter, not granddaughter-in-law, so it's possible the nurse thought it was actually Kate's grandmother. That would explain why neither she nor the second nurse referred to the caller appropriately (as if they were speaking to HM). All-in-all, it is a shame the first nurse was in such a state already as to be so distracted to put the call through. However, I agree with Ron -- anyone could have tried to call (such as press), pretending to be anyone, and have been passed through. That it happened to be radio hosts is coincidental. Yes, I did recognize your smiling face in this months issue. Congrats!! Or, thanks for taking on the task of writing the article. I'm working on another magazine now, and am having a hell of a time getting the articles from the writers. When is the next one? As a European I'd like to know how is that NSFW, It's not pornographic there's no bad language just a topless woman sitting atop a wing flyer having a good time. Do you blush every time you see a topless woman? It wasn't viewing the boobies that caused the icon. It was the probability of having opened it at work... Fitz, in March (in Georgia). CSpenceFly will likely post information here as soon as it is allowed (must wait until within a few months of the event), but I can tell you it is mid-March in southern Georgia. An excellent time! I was grounded for sinus congestion at the time, but still had a great weekend. See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump!

Really glad I opened that attachment at home and not at work!! (So, for the rest of you, NSFW). Good pic, however.
