French Murder Innocent Civilians to Protect Oil
nigel99 replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Maybe your post should read "We fucked up Iraq, we fucked up Afghanistan, we fucked up Somalia when are we ever going to learn?" The west if notorious for taking the moral high ground and stepping in to oust people they don't like, and then leaving a vacuum. The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Unless anyone can provide me with an example of a country where removing a dictator has improved things, I would venture to say that political systems settle to their lowest energy state. If a dictatorship is "working" the people don't uprise. Generally dictators are greedy selfish bastards and when they realise they have pushed things to far they will back off. Interfering only disrupts the momentum. In three years time people will be posting about how Libya is a failed state full of terrorism etc etc. Empowering a bunch of warlords is never a good idea. So I agree with you it will accomplish nothing. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -
and here i was thinking i was the ONLY person in the world who hates the skyvan. yeah its big and you can stand up, but the whole lack of a relative wind thing just gets me. never jumped a 182 but ill take a PAC or an otter over the flying box any day. You just need to get out there and JUMP! On the way to altitude visualise the dive flow and focus on the positive things that you do enjoy. At your dz planes are well maintained and if anything goes wrong you have a critical care paramedic permanently on hand Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Agreed it could be innocent enough. Maybe I am the twisted, but there is something erotic about the woman next to you having her hands in her pants. Now if it had been the super hot skychick next to me in the skyvan who had her hands in her pants that would be really fantastic . I just hope I don't get into trouble for saying so. Actually it was pretty cool just to sit next to her and get it on video and in my log book

you are so misinformed. Slaves aren't only non-white Warning this post was meant in jest not trying to pick apart your post. Language that has a diverse and expanding vocabulary is generally a good thing. It is silly to pretend that a gay marriage is identical to a straight marriage - so why not express that in the language. That is not the same as discrimination. Dude if she was diddling it wouldn't be yuck - it would be wow do you need a hand I don't know what kind of funky stuff makes a woman scratch but I wouldn't touch that even with surgical gloves on Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

On the flight back there was this chick sitting next to me who was pretty cute. I don't know if she was asleep or just didn't give a damn, but she had both hands stuffed down the front of her leggings and was scratching like crazy. USPA Seeking Feedback on Canopy Safety Proposals
nigel99 replied to NWFlyer's topic in Safety and Training
I am not going to comment on USPA procedures. But having just got current I had absolutely first class feedback from all the instructors on canopy control (special thanks to Andy though). After each jump Andy took the time to walk me through my pattern, mistakes, traffic etc. If people had this kind of detailed feedback on every jump for 5 or 10 jumps it would be fantastic. Why is beating others over the head so attractive?
nigel99 replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
it doesn't take any effort Speaker's Corner is the McDonald's of debate - fast, stupid, easy, and very harmful to those that partake I really like that description - it is fantastic. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -
That is contradictory. If there is nothing wrong with it, then what is the problem with it being called marriage, which is what it is? And he called it "disgusting," which doesn't come across as "nothing wrong with it" to me. I don't see a contradiction. YOUR definition of marriage is a long term commitment between 2 consenting adults (or similar). His definition is narrower in that it is between 2 consenting adults of the opposite sex. Certain words have special meanings for people, it doesn't mean that they are right. I hate analogies because often the analogy becomes the topic... However look at the word 'engineer'. I am a professional engineer in the UK. The large section of the engineering community is pissed off because "we" are clever, but the general public calls the dude who fixes their telephone an 'engineer'. Literally millions of pounds are spent world wide defending the title 'engineer' and the UK has people suggesting that us professional engineers should be rebranded with a special name protected in law that ONLY the elect few can use. I personally find anal sex disgusting and unappealing regardless of gender, doesn't mean that I think it is wrong. (In fact quite alot of kinky stuff sounds pretty unappealing). I don't know what context he used it in but his original few posts were pretty clear and concise. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and defend Belgian Draft. He was reluctant to post his opinion because he knew that because he holds a conservative and non pc viewpoint he was going to get hammered. He did post it and his initial post reflected views that are shared by probably billions of people on the planet. Having a bunch of people dissect your words and trying to "re-educate" you makes it pretty easy to trip over yourself and say stupid things you don't mean as you try and express your opinion. Right back at the beginning he simply stated that in his view the word marriage was taken. Think about it like a trademark if you like. For sentimental reasons he would like the word to remain as it is - he's not against gays and said as much. He just wants it to remain that when people say that got married his mental picture to be of grandma and apple pie or mum walking down the aisle in a white dress. Finally Wendy asked why same-sex marriage is wrong in her OP, he said there was nothing wrong with it and he just didn't like it having the same name. i am officially on my way now. In airline lounge 30 minutes to departure. Just 3 days ofkeeping clients happy and tying up loose ends with STF and I should be back in the air after a 15 year layoff. Second bonus is i get to meet more dz.commers after many years of post whoring! Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Many people share that view. I don't see any problem with people holding onto a set of values and ideals even if I disagree with them. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Yes I know I am from the nanny state so you can blame my views on that. BUT - I live next door to an alcoholic. The law has limited powers to prevent her driving. We are limited to quickly rushing outside and making sure that all of our kids and vehicles are safe when she in drunk, calling 999 and getting the helicopter scrambled so they can try and catch her in the act. On average the helicopter and 2 or 3 police cars are scrambled every couple of months and she has been caught and banned once in 6 years. A car that is not being driven with due care and attention is a lethal weapon and people who are over the limit should be prevented from driving. So I have no problem with the device. When in a car I will have a single drink (generally just a pint of scotch ), on the bike I don't touch alcohol at all. My view is that a relationship in general does not require a legal framework. I don't see any difference between gays, hetero or polygamous relationships. There is a big caveat though. In relationships where children are involved I do believe that being required to show adequate commitment to the relationship SHOULD be an underpinning requirement. I realise that you can't stop people pro-creating but a child is a pretty long term commitment and in my view a healthy part of childhood is having more than one adult in your life. Viewing marriage as a contract of commitment fulfils that requirement quite nicely, we should just lose the discriminatory part of the legislation. I do think that for adoption proof of a committed relationship should be a requirement. * I am also not naive there are marriages that are lifelong, and completely dysfunctional with domestic abuse of all shades taking place. I thought these were the only traffic laws in your neck of the woods. 1) Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles, even if the gun is loaded and the deer is in sight. 2) When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires does not always have the right of way. 3) Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape. 4) When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask her to bring back beer too. 5) Do not lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession. By the way what is up with little people and animal pictures on the rear windscreen? I can never figure out if it is the family (man, wife, boy, girl and dog or cat seem common) or the score card of who has been run over? Seems to be a South Carolina thing. Raising minimum deployment altitude
nigel99 replied to hcsvader's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I find it interesting how the dynamics of the sport are changing. I jumped at a high altitude dz with a lousy plane. We were generally lucky to get 8k AGL for ALL jumps. Now that is just about the time to start thinking about ending the skydive. I think there are a couple of issues and minimum deployment is more of a symptom than a cause. Firstly there is a trend towards skydivers high performance canopies. Higher speed parachutes bring a whole bunch of problems that don't exist on a T-10 so separation at break-off, landing patterns etc are all more important. The very fact that the most prevalent form of training is AFF shows where the focus lies in terms of training. I'm not sure what the answer is but I strongly suspect that much more attention needs to be given to canopy flight than is currently the case. My point is if you are going to go to the trouble of changing the minimum deployment altitude, then you should be looking to the root of what is causing deaths. No problem with catch and release. Catch them 10 miles from shore, confiscate their boat and release them (10 miles from shore of course, no need for taxi services) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

You may want to look up the comparative force laws, mate - wouldn't want you to end up in gaol. And don't forget to take the window mesh off your garden hut - wouldn't want that hard-working burglar to suffer an on-the-job injury, don't you know.
