I'm sure the adrenalin rush is greatly enhanced when a semi comes at you. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

I had a similar problem when I packed my own reserve according to the manufacturers instructions. Back in 2002 they didn't recommend the pro pack and when flat packing, it made it more difficult to get the canopy split enough to get the ears up in the reserve bag. This left more canopy toward the bottom and encroached on the main area. A couple years later they amended the instructions to include the pro pack method and it wasn't a problem anymore. Your problem may be a simple packing issue and I agree that you should speak with your rigger. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

The latest on this story is some piece of shit dysfunctional civil servant who can't get a real job (the local health inspector) told him the dog has to go. Apparently there is a major health issue because the dog could contaminate bottled soda and wrapped candy bars. Here again is some guy just trying to make a living and on the other end is a pile of dog shit trying to make political brownie points by screwing with him. I disagree. I've seen it more than once at different dzs in my few years in the sport. And it was always by the old geezers and usually ended up with a two out/cypress fire. Pulling at 2000 ft was the norm in the old days as I had to re-adjust to the higher altitudes we pull at today. Some of the older guys still pull lower so I can see where with todays canopies you could on occasion get past the arming altitude of a cypress. If I pulled at 2K with my spectre I'm sure it would also get close since its a sniveler. I was conveying that I learned many years ago most of the low pull contest stories were just fairy tales. And when a couple of geezers go low its simply a typical case of loosing track of time and altitude. And I'm saying the instances I witnessed were low pull contests. They didn't outright admit it but you definitely knew by the sheepish looks and subtle comments made when they returned with reserve in hand. I think the low pull contests were/are more common that you want to believe. I hate to think so but there are all kinds. Just like swooping, those that do it know the risks and if they want to risk their lives I don't have a problem with it as long as they don't involve me.

Since most of the people in this thread have no more than a few years in this sport, I want to comment here; Regarding the so-called "low pull contests" an "playing chicken" I read about here,These were old wives tales that would pop up every once and awhile in the old days. I have been in this sport for quite a few years and these stories for the most part were just that, "stories". Its quite possible that a few guys have done it at various locations way back when, but it was and would never have been tolerated at a typical DZ. Swooping on the other hand has its risks and its all related to timing. Just like a motorcycle jumper or downhill skier, one slip and you're in trouble. Its just an acceptable risk some will take and everyone doing it knows the consequences. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

Got my face slapped today
captain1976 replied to captain1976's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't know if this is the proper place to post this, but I wouldn't call it an incident and the bonfire doesn't seem to fit, so here it is; With 4 on the load, I went first out for a simple 2 way in a Cessna today and maneuvers along with the fact that this guy is 50 lbs lighter than me got me below pretty quick. He couldn’t catch up but something was slapping me in the face while in freefall. Between tracking and keeping an eye on the rest of the load which were all higher than me, I just though my jumpsuit collar had come undone so I didn’t look to see what it really was. It got pretty violent and when I went to pull at 3,300, I felt myself pulling something along with my pilot chute (I use a leg strap mount because of a shoulder injury). Deployment was normal and then I saw the problem. I use a belly band I had installed some time ago for demos as it’s a great place to stow flags. Its similar to the chest strap however there is a lot of excess strap to stow. The length of the strap makes it handy for bulky stuff. Well, the stow came undone and this long strap was slapping me in the puss. It also became apparent that I got a handful of it along with the pilot chute. I must admit I need a good slap every once in a while but this thing hurt like hell and it still does. -
2 blade prop or 3 blade prop?
captain1976 replied to goobersnuftda's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not sure about the 206, but installing the 3 blade on the 182 recommends a modified engine mount due to harmonic vibrations which though stronger on the 3 blade, provide a smother cockpit. I put a 3 blade on my 185 only after a couple of years without seeing any adverse reports. I see the exact same performance with both props and its a lot quieter. A tip is expected in that industry. I usually go at least $5 and my barber trims the nose hairs and eyebrows, quite uncommon in that industry

Nope, but I like their taste in automobiles

Trafficking in human organs by killing even children has been going on for years. Regarding this body fat thing, if it's that valuable, you would think that people working the night shift at crematories would get in on the action. I will never understand taking the life of a fellow human being for MONEY. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

Tandem, AFF & fun jumpers, this is the place to go. Jumped at many DZ’s over the years, this one rates among the best. Nice up to date variety of student and rental gear. Very accommodating and by far the most friendly and professional staff to be found anywhere. Super facilities, well maintained aircraft and great rolling countryside aerial views.

City of Nashville vs Skyride court date set
captain1976 replied to BillyVance's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The relief is for the removal but would it entail an order not to do it again? Appears to me if Skyride does not take them down then it might be a criminal matter or at least contempt. If someone is trying to get even with Skyride, they will simply wait until the court order is signed and start putting them up again. A real dirty trick You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime -
Skyride's Gay Skydiving Advert
captain1976 replied to NovaTTT's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Its not descrimination or a hate crime! Is it a descrimination or a hate crime to advertise student skydivers with smiles on their face and having fun because not all have fun and some freak out and are scared. Besides, we are supposed to be free, that means I am free to generalize, descriminate or even hate people if I want as long as I don't infringe on thier constitutional rights. On the other hand it is an infringement on my constitutional rights by saying I am not allowed to believe what I want, to make my own choices about my life and who I communicate with or exchange goods with or based on those beliefs. To say someone or something is descriminating or is a hate crime then you must know that persons thoughts.....so to make these things illegal means you are making thoughts illegal which is totally against freedom and the constitution! By the way, it doesn't matter what some judge says or some court decision (they can be over turned anyways) the only thing that matters is the constitution and the freedoms it protects....not what some judge say..... I know its hard to believe but they can be wrong. We are to have freedom of speech. Labeling something as hate speech and banning it, no matter what some court case or judge says, means you no longer have freedom of speech we are supposed to have under the constitution. Its like putting an animal in a cage and saying, "your free! your free!" Then when someone says that the animal is in the cage you say, "he's still free! (he's free to go anywhere in the cage) He's free, the cage is for the greater good." Its pretty obvious the animal is not free! Hate crimes and descrimination is an attempt of the government to control thoughts! May I quote you? You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime -
How windy is too windy?
captain1976 replied to BaronVonBoll's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If the winds are anything above 10, a lot of the time its associated with some gusts and canopy turbulence. I'm a little more cautious these days since I had a canopy go completely out of control at 300ft about 3 weeks ago. It just turned sideways and partially collapsed while I was in a drive with just a little brakes. By some chance it righted itself just in time for a flare and a nice landing. Believe me, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it at that altitude. Winds were reported as 14 when we took off and the manifest office announced gusts to 23 seconds after I landed. Never had a memorably hard opening on a strato star, but with an early rings & ropes Cloud I recall that there were two separate styles of packing. One for terminal and one for hop & pops. Had my worst slammer on a hop & pop and put some nice bruises on my legs. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

Third-Party USPA Advertising
captain1976 replied to JohnRich's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would only get a quote if you actually are looking for insurance. It just so happens I am and if they quote lower than my present companies, they got the business. These agents are simply business people trying to make a living in a very competitive industry and it wouldn't be ethical for me to take advantage of their promotion. are there any problems with satellite tv in the south?
captain1976 replied to TrophyHusband's topic in The Bonfire
Have Direct TV in Wisconsin and Florida. Rain has never been a problem and the only time I had a signal fade was when there were thunderstorm cells in the line of site. They never lasted very long as cells move pretty fast. Also I like the guide which gives you the description of whats playing and not some stupid scrolling channel where you have to wait to see whats playing. Do yourself a favor, get Direct TV. Additionally they are having some specials now. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime -
Welcome Jason. As skymama said, ruffeling through the forums can give you a lot of information on not only what kind of gear to get, but each subject line has a wealth of information and has been a great help to me even with my years in the sport. I have both sides on my 185 and the only problem was getting used to them. You see I would walk up to the plane forgetting they were there and smash my nose on them. I first did that at some of the airshows where I always look at the interiors and "WHAM"!, bloody nose. Other than that, I like em and can see down pretty good.
