  1. After 3 failed attempts at my level 3 AFF my instructor strongly recommended some time in a wind tunnel. I ended up going with some people from my drop zone (only knew the instructor who sets up the time) the other night. It was the best 10 minute investment i could of made. My main issue with free falling is relaxing but doing the tunnel I could feel the difference when I was tense and relax. Really hoping I can take that when I go back next week to try again at my level 3. Just wish there was a way I could remember to relax without being told to.
  2. Good luck through AFF and big grats on quitting smoking, know it isnt easy and also know this sport isnt cheap my any means
  3. Just want to piss and moan to someone that can understand my anger. I am taking AFF but the weather has been lousy here in New Hampshire. I work every weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday 7pm to 7am, Forecast said sunny all week and ended up with showers , cloudy or overcast. Drop zone isnt too far from me but when I called they said loads were iffy and no student jumping due to clouds. Today and this weekend clear skies but I am stuck working. I know it does me no good the longer I wait between my classes, been 2 weeks already. Keeping my fingers crossed for some good weather for the up coming week.
  4. Good job, I'm jealous. I work every weekend so I hope the weather is good this week since my daughter is off camping with her mom all week. Need to pass that silly level 3.
  5. Thanks for all the input guys and gals. And I do enjoy every moment I have with my daughter (was single dad that has custody weekdays for 5 years) I picked up skiing last winter after being away from it for 7 years, brought my daughter twice and she has been asking all summer when we are going skiing again. I guess I should expect "the honeymoon stage "for a new activity as great as sky diving.
  6. I was taught to do both pull risers apart and kick. Still doing AFF so its current advice.
  7. Good news and bad news. As you can see I just started skydiving this summer, totally love and and I am always thinking about it. One of my favorite things I use to enjoy a great deal were amusement parks and roller coasters. Always on a quest to find a ride that would make my heart pump and scare the living hell out of me. Well skydiving did that. My 7 year old daughter finally grew tall enough to go on most of those "big rides", spent last week taking her to amusements parks. She absolutly LOVED the big coasters. I on the other hand realized they lost their appeal, no longer did they give me the thrill I once experienced. I even laughed to myself as I listened to other adults talk about how scary the ride was. Try falling 125mph from 14,000 feet I said to myself, now thats a rush! The good news is I did get to enjoy watching my daughter have the time of her life (so she says) as she walked around the park saying "I can't stop smiling", exactly what I said when I did my first skydive. Her quest for the ultimate thrill has begun. Is it normal once you start to skydive, other activities are no longer fun. Is that where the addiction to skydiving comes into play?
  8. Way to go. Hope to have some good weather this week, was unable to jump last week due to family obligations (not a bad thing) . Going to do AFF level 3 for the third time, Feeling lucky this time.
  9. Could be worse. All summer here in New Hampshire every time I have looked at the 10 day forcast only 1 day without some type of rain. That one day is always on a day I am working (only work 3 days a week).
  10. Grats on your first 2 jumps. Know the feeling did my first 3 AFF jumps last week and cant wait to get back asap. It has been a few days now and when close my eyes it still feels like I'm falling.
  11. I had the same problem this week . Relax, relax and relax (to go with that breathe, breathe and breathe). I have a tense posture to begin with so it is taking me a bit to be able to relax. Was hoping to get past level 3 today but nothing but rain in the forcast for a few days. Good luck, I feel your frustration with repeating a level.
  12. Retook level 3 today, still had some problem getting stable but at least I know where I went wrong. Moved elbows and not shoulders to correct heading and picked a position by looking down to focus on not straight ahead. Landing went great, right next to target and on my feet (better than bushes and a marsh). All dressed and ready to jump for 2nd time today winds picked up and all AFF jumpers were grounded. Learned a great deal last 2 days.
  13. Went to the drop zone with planning on doing my first AFF jump, ended up doing three. First jump went ok. Some problems finding the rip cord, 2nd jump went awesome , 3rd jump not as good as I wanted, when let go by instructors had a time keeping straight and ended up in the bushes in my landing. The good news is I know where I went wrong but I do need to repeat level 3 . Hopefully good weather tommorow and I can get a few more jumps in. By the way IT ROCKED!!!!
  14. Know the feeling, cant stop thinking of jumping again, did tandem a few weeks ago and finally able to schedule 1st AFF class last Thursday but couldnt jump due to weather. I must be driving everyone crazy because i cant stop talking about it. Driving to work tonight it was finally sunny and thinking to myself must rather be up in the clouds than driving to work. Hopefully can jump this Tuesday.
  15. Took my first AFF class last Thursday, only 2 of us in class went great except one thing..the weather. Started off sunny and clear but by 9am no jumps were being made because of overcast. Kept my fingers crossed all day but no luck, my 4pm all flights were grounded for the day. Hopefully good weather on Tuesday. Tough to find time to jump with a 7 year old and the weather has been wet here in New Hampshire all summer. Have been going through the steps over and over and over again in my head. People must think I am wacked talking to myself all the time. ARCH ARCH ARCH
  16. After talking about it for many years I finally did a tandem jump last week. It was all I expected and way more. I brought my family to watch and now they think they have the coolest dad around. Great advice was to get the video, now I can watch my first jump over and over again (which I have). I find myself looking up to the skies wishing I was up there. Thinking about jumping always brings a smile to my face. I am calling next week to start the AFF training. By the way I jumped out of Sky Dive New England, Lebanon Maine. The staff was great and the best part its only 12 miles from my house. The only problem I see is the cash, not a cheap hobby to start. I guess I can divert from the kitchen remodeling fund. Ripped apart the kitchen last year, gone this long whats another year I need to get back to the skies. See you all in the air :)
  17. Waited and talked about skydiving for 20 years and finally decided to go. Brought the family to witness dad jump out of a plane. Staff was not only great to me they were great to my family. No one made me feel like a newbie, and with the kidding around (yet professional ) I felt at ease. Cant wait to go back and do it solo.
