Read? Why? I was there. His peers have had alot to say about him as a person, but little real criticism of his performance or his military record. He is certainly not a 'people person' and would have made a terrible president, but that doesn’t mean he is ignorant of strategic matters. Post a few sources if you disagree, try to stick to those who aren’t also politically motivated. If you look you should be able to find Gen Shelton's quote as to why Clark was removed from command, it wasn’t performance. Do you know what goals Clark was given for the Balkans?? Some of the 'requirements' were completely ridiculous, just from the time i spent trying to fulfill a portion of the monitoring and surveillance taskings. BTW what were the total American casualties for that conflict? Other than politically motivated editorials what do you know about his mission, or how well he accomplished it in Kosovo? He was an arrogant ass that generally seemed to have his answers before he asked the questions, but he was also a key part in the development of the non-linear/information warfare doctrine currently in use and certainly has the credentials and experience to comment on military deployments as they relate to national security. Or do you believe Bush is more qualified? He seems to love to disregard the opinion of the military experts, but i suppose he learned alot of strategic thought and analysis while on duty in AL? There is an amazing school for it there, but I doubt you'll find the president's name listed among the graduates, or even the attendee's... I'm still waiting for the Joint Chiefs opinions on the specifics of Bush’s plan, and (more importantly) the opinions of senior officers that you wont ever hear on the news. From the discussions I've had with people who are currently involved in Europe and Korea, I cant say I've heard many people who believe this realignment is a good thing. The Stryker is great piece of equipment with all the bells and whistles we can devise and by the time realignment is scheduled to occur the integration with the land warrior systems will give mechanized infantry units an amazingly level of situational awareness and communication ability, but it still wont enable a brigade to take of the mission from 2 divisions... But I guess you'd rather argue over Kerry's opinion of it than the actual strategic issues? After all you weren’t motivated to post this after Bush's announcement, and it has literally been a plan under discussion for several years. Your right it is unlikely that anyone here has Clark’s strategic experience, it is also unlikely that they have access to the level of information required to make any real evaluation of the plan. But you'll certainly do your best to pick apart assessments from those who do, particularly if they happen to be on the other side of the political fence....... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

oh just imagine the splinter groups forming....religious schism is such fun to watch. which is part of why religions that do not recognize gay marriage now, do not want it granted equal legal status at all. It would continue to undermine one of the few social 'authorities' still remaining to religion after it and governmental authority split. The farther it (a religion, any religion) is divided the less influence it has on society. How many people haven’t been in a church since the last time someone got married? What is the effect on churches when more weddings take place outside than in due to their inability to adapt to social change? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

nothing wrong with that, but I'd get tired of getting out late/last all the time and there are always dives where you should still be tracking through 4 or at least clearing airspace. I'd rather have gear that i felt comfortable consistently opening at 3. i''ll pull lower on occasion, but i dont see the point in scaring myself or my cypress.... ground rush is why i want to BASE. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

maybe you have issues differentiating between discussion and personal attacks? obviously i'm not the only one that believes a 2% 'failure rate' is ridiculously low.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

the quote she took out of context was a specific question relating to your statement about "I remember being frightened..." I asked you why you thought you were frightened, the content of the movie or the environment you saw it in (and were preprepared to be scared possibly) and how much you thought each weighed on your mental state. do you think the movie would have had the same effect on you in a well lit room with adults who were obviously unafraid? do you think a 3 year old would be frightened by an otherwise scary movie under the same circumstances? Do you think that 3 year old responds more to the 2 dimensional visual images or the emotional level/response of the adults around him? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

not at all, but it is incorrect to say the pill prevented a pregnancy that could not have occurred (woman not ovulating) or that a condom prevented pregnancy when it broke during sex, as you cant connect cause and effect, so if those two incidents were counted (any number of times they occurred) the statistics are flawed for what they are attempting to describe (effectiveness of each birth control method) it would be equally wrong to include an instance where woman wasn’t consistently taking her pills and got pregnant, or an instance where the condom was put on after genital contact that also resulted in pregnancy. including any of those instances in a statistic on 'effectiveness of various birth control methods' is padding the results...statistics can say anything you want them to, but if your looking for useful data you have to exclude cases in which cause and effect cannot be verified. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

most gays i know really dont care so much about social approval (it would be nice, but you cant force anyone to approve of you) so much as they care about equal legal status and spousal rights... I've never understood the mindset that needs exclude, ridicule and repress to make themselves feel better or more special about their own relationships.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Wow, that was rather irrelevant, considering we're referencing a situation in a dark movie theater with people screaming. It wasn't being played in the ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese. actually it's perfectly relevant, following the thread of discussion, I was asking Kev WHY he thought he felt frightened at that age, and pointing out the same stimulus in a different environment has different effects. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Thats kinda disturbing, Zenister... its a qoute from a book I was PM'd today (she couldnt recall who by), while discussing the futility of trying to get people to open their eyes..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

why? were you told it was a scary movie? did others in the theater act timid and frightened? Do you think you were scared because you understood the material you were being shown or because you were reacting to the environment around you? (others obviously frightened and jumpy) a scary movie being shown in a well lit room with people laughing is not likely to have the same effect on an impressionable mind... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

because you cannot say the condom prevented the pregnancy when it failed its basic function by breaking. if the pill was NOT the reason a pregnancy did not occur then it did nothing to prevent it, counting that instance as a 'pregnancy prevented by use of the pill" is putting the data in the wrong field...and padding the results... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

not sure about the Navy but my brother-in-law did basic bayonet drill in AF boot...he didnt spend 3 days with refreshers once a week like the Army does, but he got the basics... honestly i dont know how much rifle training the Navy gets at all... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
Count it however you want. But the statistic I was quoting was "failure to prevent pregnancy" if the condom breaks how exactly does that count as a successfully 'prevented pregnancy' on the part of the condom? there is no evidence that the condom was the reason pregnancy did not occur. If incidents of breakage are counted as 'preventions' because pregnancy did not result they are padding their statistics. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

anyone who has been through basic training and pretty much anyone with enough sense to handle a spear... it's not that difficult and they are very effective when used properly.... of course i cant think of many applications outside of military uses, but that doenst mean that civilians shouldnt possess them as they are no great threat in and of themselves.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
i'd pretty much count any break as a failure, pregnancy or no...after the condom breaks its only luck that prevents pregnancy... (unless other measures have been taken) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

only if you recognize it as a threat, do you think a two dimensional projection triggers an instinctual response from a 3 year old? a 3 year old isn’t afraid of an oncoming car because he doesn’t know it can kill him, he doesn’t even know what death is..... i think we are agreeing more than disagreeing Wendy, there isn’t much point in bring the 3 year old, but if he's properly supervised and well behaved (ok so maybe we need a hypothetical 3 year old i've never met one that could sit still and quiet for 2+ hours) what is 'wrong' with it? Its certainly not exemplary parenting methods, but then we don’t have much of that in modern society anyway... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

so what happens when a legally bound couple has diametrically opposed views on this issue? How does this contract give the male anymore right to force the female's decision? The line certainly needs drawing, but it isn’t so much about who's responsibility it is, as it is at what point does the responsibility for such decision revert to the State? When in is it no longer a matter of two people's choices, but three people's lives? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Source? My experience with them (anecdotal, but all I have to go on) suggests a higher failure rate. I'd have to agree here, 2% is exceedingly low. I wonder what they used as a standard for 'correct use' and how realistic that standard is in the real world. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
