ironic to have that clip on the USPA website at a non USPA dropzoneQuote Seriously? Why can't you just appreciate the video for the message it conveys and the time, effort, and skills that went into the editing...Who gives a shit what dropzone it was filmed at, that's not the point of the video. Bill, congrats, I think its great

I actually think its called 'TYR Anti-Fog Solution'. It comes in a small white container with a 'hairspray' push down spray nozzle. Its a small little thing, the container is about 2'' tall. It goes a long way though. http://www.rei.com/product/797482?preferredSku=7974820016&cm_mmc=cse_froogle-_-datafeed-_-product-_-7974820016&mr:trackingCode=1A18CE29-B020-DF11-9B13-0019B9C043EB&mr:referralID=NA And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. TYR, the company that makes swimming products, has an anti-fog spray that I use on my goggles. Works like a charm

Pro's and Con's Ohio vs. California DZ's
TiaDanger replied to jump2live's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As stated previously above, I did AFF in Lodi (no flaming please, I'm a cool person, honest!) When i started, i had no idea DZs even used radios to guide students in. I was not trained on a radio, and never felt like I was missing something from my instruction by not having one. Landing patterns and procedures were pounded into my head...for me personally, why would i need a radio? I've already gone over that information on the ground. And lets just say, winds changed... I learned in ground school that my pattern needed to change with the winds as well. Could it be the case that students/instructors feel they need to rely on a radio because their ground instruction was not complete and repetitive enough? Perhaps radios need to be on a student-by-student basis, not just the default. If you as an instructor feel that your student is competent enough sans radio, then leave it out. If you feel that your student is not ready to land sans radio, then give one to him/her. I can't tell you how many times my AFF instructor made me look at that damn arial photo of the DZ to memorize what it looked like from above. Same with actual landing procedures. I would think the only way you could truly 'misplace' the DZ (not including not recognizing it) is if you had a bad spot, but even then, I would hope your instructor would have noticed the bad spot and had you pull a little higher. Just my personal anecdote on the situation. My ground school provided me with the information I needed to safely and efficiently find the dropzone, land safely, and land out safely if the situation arose. I am no worse for wear because I didn't have a radio. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be used, I'm saying that people actually survive AFF without them. I've hear Skydive Mesquite is the place to go near Las Vegas. Many of the Vegas DZs are either tandem factories (that don't even allow funjumpers, gasp!), or treat fun jumpers like crap. Everybody seems to have high praises for Mesquite

If you plan on going to Lodi I would try out Ed, he's on of the best instructors there in my opinion, heres his website. http://www.northerncaliforniaskydiving.com/ Quote +1 And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. I did AFF in Lodi and it is my home dropzone.. I never felt like I was ever put in an unsafe position doing training there. I love that place. Just like at any dropzone you go to, you have to know how your gear works, what planes you are jumping, jump ship characteristics, landing patterns, etc. There are many people there that are very safety conscious...seek them out and learn from them. Pick their brains, ask them questions. Jump with safe people. Lodi was the right choice for me, but that is not to say that it is the necessarily the right choice for every student. On another note, I would call and ask Bill if you can bring your dog, don't just blindly bring him... There are dogs running around there, several are his and the others are employees dogs, but they are all very well behaved. But I know of dogs who have gotten 'fired' from the DZ. So don't just show up with your dog, i would ask permission first. I actually haven't read through all the replies so this might be a repeat, but: Nashbar.com has great prices on bike shorts, which IMO are a MUST in road biking. Also, look at REI-outlet.com, they have some good prices as well. And it works great for running, but try to rub baby powder on your thighs...it totally helps prevent chaffing on distance runs for me. I asked my bike dealer to work with me on financing a bike. I got serious into triathlons a while back (before skydiving took over my life and bank acct) and they helped me get 0% financing through TREK on a nice Trek bike. It took me a year to pay it off, but it was AWESOME that Trek gave me that financing option without having to pay interest. you move and immediately change your address with Blue Skies Mag and Parachutist to get them at your new house. Then a year later, you realize that you never even thought to change your address with DMV, voter registrar, student loan companies, etc. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. So.. they're free? Just pay postage there and postage back? And I suppose 'ordering' simply means to send them an envelope telling them what colors you want? New container for first rig
TiaDanger replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not trying to pick a fight with you, but with a little research you can have a pretty good idea of what you want and don't want in a rig. Quote Ya, you can. But I can assure you I've spent so much down time looking up information about equipment purely out of my own interest, I can say with confidence that I know more about my rig than many other 100 jump wonders out there. Nevertheless I still have not made an educated decision on all the preferences I would want on a rig that I would drop one or two grand on, which is a ton of money for me. New container for first rig
TiaDanger replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, your choice is your choice. And that 'I'm a super newbie and I'm going against the grain' attitude about not choosing to use a life saving device? Have fun with that. In the meantime, the rest us will be jumping at the dropzones you're not allowed to jump at. And about the original topic... regardless of how much money your parents will drop on a rig for you, I would still suggest getting a used rig. At 30 jumps, you don't know what you want in a rig yet. I'm nearing 100 jumps and I have no idea what I want in one yet. When I buy a custom rig, I'm gonna make damn sure my landings are consistent, because I don't want my new baby in a sorry state after just one season. I'm surprised nobody has said Lake Tahoe...I live 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe and I think its the most wonderful place. Picked Up Dog From Breeder...sick w/in 24 hours
TiaDanger replied to jacketsdb23's topic in The Bonfire
[replyAnd on top of that they wanted several hundred for the dog. Thats because most people working for rescue organizations are working for free and need funding to come in to help pay for food, medical care, facilities for the not-yet-adopted dogs. I would have no problem paying that money to help out other animals and people at rescue organizations. This is not directed at you, I'm just saying...I would rather pay several hundred for a rescue dog than several hundred for a breeder dog. On the topic of breeders dogs, many of those breeds have been bred to death, so to speak...more than ever breeder labradors have hip dysplasia, more than ever, bulldogs have bad skin diseases and respiratory problems, more then ever, cocker spaniels have cherry eye, and this list can go on and on... You are better off getting a mix from the pound because in many 'genetic' cases, a pound puppy mix is probably healthier. Its probably the TSA 'permission slip' to allow you to bring parachutes as a carry on. Here is the link. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1147.shtm If you have a CYPRES, its also a good idea to have CYPRES card showing what they will see as your rig is put through Xray.
