  1. The Verso looks like a great suit. I've been wanting to ditch the grippers for some time, but all the suits out there that lack them sacrifice quite a bit in range/power. This design looks like it could keep up with any of them, but without the grippers. It may be BASE-targeted, but it looks like a perfect flocking suit. I think this might be my next one. :D
  2. Yeah, I didn't either until I needed to start jumping with students (working on instructor ratings). At Mile-Hi on comp Velo, right? I'll bet you could get them all to go. I know there was some Cypres fire testing that went on independently with far less WL at about 2,000' (~sea level DZ with the Cypres set to fire higher). Article's in Skydiving Magazine and there are some comments on it somewhere in this site. Totally. I'm thinking disorienting G-force related scenarios with smaller canopies where your AAD would get some much needed use after deployment, cutaway, etc, rather than in the initial freefall portion of the skydive.
  3. This is exactly what I thought when I read the title. Personally, I think it's best to just shut it off when doing the big landings. This might mean reserving those 450s for solos and hop and pops, but it's worth it, IMO. Especially when you're jumping at a higher AGL DZ where you're more likely to exceed your AAD speed limit in a swoop (if your AAD does not have swoop features like Argus or Speed Cypres).
  4. That sounds right. If you're still getting buffeting then, yeah, something's probably up with that particular canopy.
  5. Have been speedflying for several years now. It's fun stuff and a great off-season parachuting activity for skydivers in areas with inclement winter weather. I've been using skydiving wings for some years, but this is my next one: http://www.flyaboveall.com/speedflying/bullet_nz.htm
  6. Have you let out the brake lines? Most canopies ship with the brake lines a bit on the short side, where a deep front riser turn with your toggle in hand (as it should be) deflects the tail a bit. I usually have to let my brake lines out another 6". You might want to look into longer risers, as well, to keep front riser stroke range separate from toggle stroke range.
  7. Aw, man.... such bad news. He will be missed. My condolences to Kathy and everyone Rob touched. :(
  8. If you want to skydive your BASE setup, just get a larger pilot chute. I used a 32" PC with 12' bridle on dozens of skydives before my first WS BASE jump. Nothing even near a premature deployment issue. In fact, the PC actually got *stuck* once (reserve ride) when packed sloppily -- which is why I would actually recommend the set up in the sky before BASE-ing it. Just be sure to use a collapsible, assuming you're jumping a canopy that is much smaller than what you'll use for BASE. An inflated 32" PC is a really bad idea on a sub-or-near-100 canopy. If you aren't planning on BASE jumping with your wingsuit, then you're better off just using your BOC on all skydives.
