Well I've been a manager of an office for a good 3 years now. This was just one of those things I needed. I was winging it and doing ok but...I really needed it to be a better manager. And my employer offered to pay sooooooo who was I to say no. I had my hopes up of meeting new and exciting women since the divorce occured the week before I started class......but......no. 7 dudes, 7 chicks.....who all have rug rats or little kids and can't seem to stop talking about them. I went to school for mechanical engineering for my BS I have a six sigma green belt and black belt, two patents thus far and a good 10 years experience so I think I may be ok....but who knows? Ground launching. My parents live in upstate NY, about an hour north of Albany. And if you are familiar with that region their ski season is usually a few months long due to the total lack of natural snow. It's actually too cold to snow! So their season is usually done in April. As a dude in his early 30's who is single and who works in an facility full of engineering dudes and.....I have no idea if some of these chicks are really odd looking dudes or some realy ugly chicks....visiting a univesity makes me want to go back! This masters program I'm in has been a total waste in terms of quality or quantity of single women. I would say a solid 60% are married and have little kids and another 35% are married. I was helping one of my neighbors assemble some furniture this past Sunday and she was interested in my bike and how far I ride etc etc and the usual question about getting hot in the leather jacket. I indicated as I always to better off hot than skinned and that the only time it gets too hot is when you are stuck at a stop light for far too long. And she had a really dumb yet kind of smart question......she had seen some TV show where some guy was cooking using the engine of his car. He would wrap i guess potatoes and chicken in foil and stick it under the hood and go for a ride and when he got to where he wanted to be he would have a hot lunch. When I visited the Sky Venture tunnel in Montreal on a Friday at 2pm I was amazed at two things. 1) That my friends and I had to wait in line to get our flight time in and 2) That half the building was still being cleaned up from construction! I spoke to one of the people, not sure if he was the manager or investor but he indicated that due to the demand they opened up sooner than expected and that they expected to be in the black much sooner. I'll give you a great example why I prefer to spend my Sunday with my friends at DZ rather than with my work or other friends who are my age married with 2.5 kids. As it's known I have a very good idea as to what I am looking for in terms of partner. And being 34 and working where I work and living where I live with the schedule I have finding what I'm looking for in a partner has proven to be very difficult and very depressing. No one wants to "feel" that the best they could ever find was in the past and there isn't much hope for the future. Match that up with the usual hell of going through a divorce and well a guy can really get down. Now say I get invited to a my 2.5kids married friends house for lunch on a sunday, 4 hours of "You know Shah you are too picky! Sure you are furthering your education and working hard to stay in shape but really you should lower your standards....." Now who wants to hear that? I already feel as if my self worth is a little less than dog crap and here I get this. Now my DZ friends, I get the opposite. Now why would I have lunch with two snot nose kids, a wife and a friend who because his wife stopped wearing jeans and switched to sweat pants 24/7 I must accept the same? I'm very new to this sport and to this community. And I recently had some not so nice things happen that really put me in a tail spin from which I am still recovering. That being said, I would have to say if it wasn't for my friends and the environment that exists at the DZ i frequent i would be a real mess. How can I put it? Once you put the DZ BS aside I cant think of a more open and friendly place to go on a Sunday after a long week not only at work but living in my own mind. Even when it's windy and I can't jump. Just sitting in the sun and talking to friends it's great. Furthermore, maybe it's just me and where I go but comparing my friends at the DZ to my friends at say work. I prefer my friends at the DZ. There is a greater sense of respect and understanding, less "Oh get over it" mentality. Maybe I'm just very fortunate and this attitude isn't prevalent in all DZs, but I don't see why it shouldn't be. It's one of those strange things and a well known fact. A guy can make great money, be perfectly stable and be on his way to a great life. But due to his size finding a life partner may be an issue. It's funny when I first became single I tried one of those dating sights, and I had a bit of fun to see what the world was like. I "adjusted" my pay into the $200k's and got a few emails. But then I brought my pay significantly lower than what I make but increased my height to 6ft+......a flood of email! We can argue that a woman can "get in shape" and do well on the market.
