  1. There is not enough inertia in the fan blades to maintain the suction needed for flight speeds, nor is the flight medium (air) viscous enough to maintain an inertial flow. The "pull-back" of the stick causes the power to the motors to be reduced gradually, not all at once like in a power failure. In the SVCO tunnel, a flight test of the e-stop (which also reduces the power gradually, albeit faster than the "pull-back) from an approximate 105 mph airspeed I was able to maintain flying altitude on my belly for about 2 seconds by aggressively de-arching once the e-stop had been activated. To simulate a power out situation worst case scenario, you could open the RAT doors fully, then while someone is flying have all 4 VFD's shut off simultaneously. As to the safety issue of a power failure, the risk is minimal. The majority of activity in the tunnel is belly to earth flight in the 2 to 6 foot range. In a power failure most flyers are not going to react quickly enough to do anything other than fall to the net. Even a six foot fall onto the net will probably not cause a significant injury. I've had a 4 way fall to the net in a power outage from 4 feet and no one was injured. The danger and potential major injuries are far more likely to occur at higher flying speeds, higher flying altitudes, and during transitions. Someone doing a back flip or sitflying over 10 feet during an outage is very likely to be hurt. edit: spelling ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 2. Re-read the original question. I believe it would be the exception rather than the rule, therefore an exceptional DZO might allow it. A great percentage of tandem business is friends and family of jumpers anyway, so it's not as common as you might think. If I were a DZO, I would probably allow it with a staff member, or ex-staff member if it was family and/ or a close friend and was an occasional thing. As for a visiting TI? I'd have to know them pretty well or someone I trusted would have to vouch for them. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. No. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. If I remember right the speed kit adds a length to the A and B lines causing the canopy to be trimed steeper. It's a great canopy, as much fun as my Stilettos were, and a better opening canopy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. Your closing loop shouldn't strethch over time, as you should be pre-stretching it before use. I like using Spectra from old linesets as it wears very well, but would,t bother with new Vectran since it's so oily. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 6. Never seen the 206, the 207 is a pretty good performer, but you may want to investigat the difference between that and a Caravan, or PAC. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. Anyone got tips for places to find freeware for FSX? New A/C and missions?
  8. Who you trying to save? Leave well enough alone before the goombahs in the govermant coats and hats come over regulate this sport to the point you have to fill out triplicate paperwork for each jump. Are you saying you don't have enough personal responsibility to jump safely without goverment regulation? Currently one jackass going off and reciving inadiquate trainint (if it wasn't a troll) isn't hurtting anyone, including you or the image of this sport. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 9. "Point Break" and Tandem Skydiving. Many of us that continued in the sport at the rapid pace of jumping turbine aircraft and moder dropzones allow, never applied for their B & C licenses. I have an A and a D, thats it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. NO jumpsuit is worth $600+ dollars. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. I've seen one, and have a friend looking for one but have no information on them. Its a stand alone CD burner that has the capability to read directly from CF cards. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. Check out the stabilizers on the Xaos. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. The Xaos comes stock with an HMA lineset. I'd suggest calling the manufacturer, ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. At SVCO, I will have the controller cut the power. I can then hop in, pop up about 30 feet, come back down, stop, then back out the door. This is all after the power has been cut. Several of the Instructors will hop in after the power has been cut and back loop back out the door, run around the walls, etc. The wind will actually slow down slower if the power fails, since the braking system needs power to operate. A power falure at SVCO would be a non-event. Derek I disagree. Knowing the systems as I do, neither the e-stop, or pulling the stick back to zero simulate a power outage. Having been an instructor and a flyer during power failures in tunnels I can say when the power stops, so does flight. Immediately. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

  16. Why does it delay you? Was the old one damaged? Was it taken off before the new one arrived? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

  19. If you're exiting on your belly and you look down where you'll be putting your feet you're likely cuping air and floating. then you'll be using your arms way too much, muscling your self out. Try grabing the door frame, keeping your eyes on the wall infront of you, and then rather than pull yourself out, arch, then tuck your knees up towards your chest, your lower body will sink, and it's then a simple matter to just stand up. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 20. Hehehe.... In about 2 weeks I've got to drive from NY to CA, no particular route selected (was thinking I might go south (ATL?), so sugestions on which way to go, what to see, and who to stop in and visit are welcome! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 23. The Sigma eliminated 1/3rd of the malfunctions possible on the three ring style tandem systems, Racer included. That's enough for me right there. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. According to them, it is all of the above: "When lightly loaded (.5 or .6 pounds per sq. ft.), it can be a beginner canopy. When heavily loaded (2.3 pounds per sq. ft. to 1.7 pounds per sq. ft.) it is a high performance canopy that will easily out swoop a Stiletto or other semi-elliptical canopy. When loaded from .85 pounds per square foot to 1.6 or so, it is a great all-around canopy, capable of slow flight with lots of stability and great toggling range. It was created in 3-D, so the dimensions of the skins and lines lengths are extremely accurate, and the characteristics were completely predictable. So when you ask "what can it be compared to?" the answer is: Triathlon when lightly loaded, Stiletto/Spectre/Icarus Crossfire when loaded "mid weight", and Icarus Extreme/Velocity when heavily loaded. Yes, it's really that versatile!" http://www.jumpshack.com/default.asp?CategoryID=FireBolt So when did Dan Preston start working for Atair? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 25. Isn't the Firebolt advetised by Jump Shack as a high performance eliptical parachute? Something to consider with 45 jumps. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
