    Advanced skydiving is simply learning the lessons we've been seeing on the training side in the last 5 years. If the only criteria you judge by are freefall abilities, people WILL be dying under canopy at a greater rate. We need more quantitative evaluation and certification of canopy skills in this sport. This is unlikely to happen until instructors and instructor candidates are held to a higher global standard. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.     None! You are moving within an air mass which is called the wind if you are on the ground. It is only going to have an effect if you are not in the air mass and the air mass hits you. The relative wind you experience is from your movement within the air mass.     In no way should what I'm about to say be considered a disparaging remark about ANY manufacturer, but long ago I made it a policy to NEVER accept gear assembled and packed by a manufacturer. Everyone makes mistakes and I find it logical to add another set of eyeballs (local) to check over all equipment before it goes into service. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.     If the manufacturer doesn't approve of it, you probably ought not do it. The reality is even if you do manage to cram it in there, you'll damage the rig over the long term, wear the canopy faster, and increase the risk of malfunction and unpredictable openings greatly. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.     Seems many people in this thread have missed the point that high quality video, no matter if it's outside or handicam is one of the single best advertising points for a DZ and not only is it FREE advertising, but you get PAID for it. Let the professionals do the camera work, and treat the student like what they are. A student. Who might just come back and learn how to skydive. Heck if you set their habits right from day one, then you won't have to retrain their asses when they become a tandem instructor. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.     I have Photophobia and I feel for ya. Seeing a student's eyes is great but I think exceptions should be made when warranted. I think exceptions should be made, a)when thew instructor(s) are comfortable with such an exception, and be when a doctor proves the condition. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.     Agreed, a great movie, good attempt at keeping it "realistic. The only negative I have is that I saw it on IMAX 3D and I'm pretty sure anything else is going to be a disappointment at this point.

    IIRC that was the thinking for a while, but then it was brought to the attention of the USPA that the FAA's guidance for FSDO's document stated that tandems would not be approved for level 2 and stadium demos. This was after the FAA HQ saw the Shannon Sharpe demo into Mile High stadium (which they complemented on the professional and safe execution of) and mentioned that by the FAA's own rules, the FSDO should not have approved it. At that point the BOD changed the BSR's back to reflect this policy until such time the FAA's documents (whos policies on this subject had orginaly been copied from the USPA's BSR's) had changed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.     Disagree. The manufacturer rating trains you for the equipment, the USPA rating trains you to be an instructor whom is far more capable than a "meat hauler". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

    If we can't convince you to come see us in Florida or Texas www.skydivespaceland.com, then I'd recommend Perris of your two choices. I've spent quite a lot of time there, they have a very professional staff, great gear store, places to stay, pretty good restaurant, and wind tunnel. If you do think about somewhere else, check out the "A in a week" program on our website, available at both our Texas and Florida campuses. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
