I really couldn't care less if there are people out there who want to (or are indifferent to) jump out of sub-standard maintained airplanes. What bugs me is when a dropzone that has had run ins before with the FAA before manages to attract enough attention that the Secretary of Transport issues a statement. Skydiving is a small aviation activity that quite often flies under the regulation radar but high profile notice and reports in the media about stuff like this is not helping. I hate that one guy selfishly trying to save a few bucks on maintenance could end up costing everyone else lots of time and money.

CSPA 3rd party liability insurance is good for bodily injury and damage to property to a max of 2 million dollars per occurrence. I don't know what USPA's max per occurrence is but I believe its a lot less than this. I have heard $50,000 but don't know for sure.

What I did with my large rig is cutaway the main and put it in a separate carry on piece. I think most airlines allow two carry on pieces, and it was the only way I could carry my rig since it weighs 23-24 pounds.

Actually Skydekker you now need a main parachute packing endorsement to get your A CoP. To get that endorsement you are supposed to perform 10 supervised packs (by coach, instructor or rigger) and also complete a packing test consisting of clearing a minor entanglement and identifing the basic parts of the canopy. I think it used to be a requirement for the B but when they changed the Licenses a couple years back they include packing in the A.
