  1. OJ...I have a small slider on my velo111 that I bought from a camera flyer you know. He put the slider on this canopy and it is like 30% smaller than the slider that was on the demo I had jumped for a month or so (sorry to anyone who was waiting on that demo). In my opinion the openings are way better with the smaller slider. They are faster with less action. I know you jump a smaller canopy than I do but if you want the measurements of my slider I can get them to you next week when I get back. With a smaller slider the velo still has a really nice snivel...the difference is it doesn't last for 1000+ feet. Whats up with the 103 that was in the tree, any damage?
  2. Bubbles- I am a regular jumper at Skys The Limit and it serves no purpose for me if the drop zone shuts down. I do not think that by me posting the article I am spreading a rumor. The case was heard in court, to say that the paper was completely lying is a bit strong. I was out to the dz on Saturday and there were two planes tied down and not a soul about on a perfect day for jumping, maybe it is just a huge coincidence. While I was at the dz I called a jumper who lives in town and jumps at STL a few days a week. He told me it had been shut down. Skys The Limit is a fantastic dz and they bend over backwards to get jumpers in the air. (I do not know of many dz's that will put up a cessna with two fun jumpers) I have been jumping at Skys The limit for years and would like to continue to do so. What I do not understand is this, if you are correct and they just decided to change the hours of operation why not send out an email? It takes two minutes. I know I have gotten email from manifest with far less important information. If there is in fact a problem, let it be known. More awareness will only generate more support. After I was at the dz on Saturday I stopped by both a gas station and a deli on my way home. The skydiving sweatshirt I was wearing initiated the same conversation from the employees at each establishment - "its a shame they shut you guys down". What would you think?
  3. Small town politics still at work. http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/sussex/index.ssf?/base/news-3/110119384369330.xml quiet skies will in turn bring quiet cash registers for local business'.
  4. HH, Thank you for what ever it was that you did. I was able to post the ad without any problems. I have never had the chance to thank you personally for dz.com. It makes work a lot more fun. You are the man. jay
  5. I have tried to post a classified ad and have been unsuccessful. I changed my settings to allow cookies from dz.com. I have also tried to do it three times in the past couple of hours. Does it take a while for the ad to be posted? Have I posted my ad three times? If the later, would it be possible to delete two of them? In my haste to post the ad I may have just become the guy that posts the same ad over and over.....I don't like that guy. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  6. Skeptical yet very intrigued with regard to your statement of.... "Anyone who is a 3+ year cocaine user in a terminal condition since their internal organs and circulatory systems would be equivalent to a 70 year old." Any info/articles to back it up?
  7. This September 18-19th Skys The Limit in Newton NJ will host the third annual Down Wind Boogie. Jumpers will be able to enjoy multiple turbine aircraft and there will be load organizing for RW and Freefly. Big ways in all discaplines, tracking dives, hit and chug, and a totally kick ass natural swoop pond w/ a sandy beach landing area. There is a BBQ and a raffle on Saturday night. Boogie T-shirts for all registered jumpers, free beer, and plenty of night time activities. There is free camping and clean showers on the DZ. Great prizes have been donated for the raffle, Ozone Junkies load organizing freefly and tracking, and the pattern will be organized by Down Wind Ray. For directions check out www.skysthelimit.net
  8. O.J.- You jumping this weekend? Your team mate got his kit squared away yet? Got my first couple of toedrags in the pond two weeks ago...looking for more. Although we may go up to cpi, max is there organizing all weekend. More than likely at stl. Downwind Boogie Sep 18-19. You guys up for organizing?
  9. I have had great openings w/ a veng 120 when I do not bury the nose when packing. That and flyng the harness. I only go to rears when it opens in a turn, usualy caused by (in my opinion) a burried nose and a super long snival. Only one slammer and it was last week, the trash pack was my own doing and I deserved it. Great canopy if you are not ready for xbraced. Lots of low end.
  10. Are you guys doing night jumps at CPI tonight?
  11. If you go to Vermont Skydive Adventures you can have both water and the mountains. VSA is in the Champlain Valley with veiws of both the green mts of Vt and the adirondack mts of NY with the big beautiful lake champlain in the middle. You can cross country your canopy from ny state over the lake into vt. The people are super chill up there as well. Close to Burlington VT and even Montreal
  12. I bought a Neptune a while back and it had the older version software on it. It was unreliable. I sent it to alti-2 and they installed the new software, gave me new batteries, put in in the test chamber, and included a newer version wrist attachment all at no charge. I have put 20 or so jumps on it since I got it back (the turn around time was very fast, like less than a week) and it is spot on. It is very cool and I am glad that I have one. Alti-2 has rock solid customer service. A buddy of mine just bought one and he is equally impressed with the unit. Note: your local dealer should be able to update the software. My dealer was not set up to do the update so I shipped it to Alti-2.
  13. Instead of using two closing loops why not use a tandem loop. I have been using tandem loops for a couple of seasons and they are strong as hell and very durable.
  14. The jumper in question does own their own gear. They landed their rig and walked to the packing area to hear that sunset load was on less than a twenty min call. Wanting to go up for sunset, the jumper looked around the packing area for a rig to use and found the student rig in question. It is unfortunate that the jumper had to experience a mal on borrowed gear but we should remember the cost to replace a new/used main is far less than that of ones life. After speaking with this jumper upon landing they did not seem clear if it was a bag lock or a pilot chute in tow. It may have been a pilot chute in the burble I dont know I was not on the jump. The jumper never saw the bag or canopy above their head (from jumpers account) and did not attempt to locate it once they cut away. With under 200 jumps the awareness to follow the shit after cutaway may not have even occurred to the jumper. (read-expensive mistake) They were on survival mode. I do not work for the dz but I do know that to say the canopy has thousands and thousands of jumps is a bit exaggerated. If the jumper were to seek out a comparable replacement I am sure they would consider any option. If the jumper in question had borrowed my rig at the end of the day, and had no idea where part of it went I would expect a replacement. In my eyes that would be a canopy withequal or fewer jumps on it. Why is it some treat our dz's like family and friends and expect that treatment in return until money is involved?
  15. There will be plenty of skyjumping going on at stl this weekend. I am told by stl they will be jumping there all season long. Please do not take what is written in the paper as an undisputable fact. The DZO will not let four people from town or one judge ass f*ck him out of the airport.
  16. Joe, Shoot me a pm with your email address. While I was jumping at a different dz yesterday and did not see the event, I am fairly confident I know who it is you are speaking of. I may be able to give you a few ideas.
  17. If it is not to much trouble could you email me a copy as well. I have just begun to fly wingsuits and am very interested.
  18. I enjoyed when the Wu-Tang Clan were financial advisors. "Smith Barney..... bunch of bitches"
  19. Ivan, come out to stl on sat and you will forget about your employment issues. I will buy your first jump ticket and I am sure others will chip in and follow suit. You can't go to any future job interviews with a head full of mess. See you there.
  20. If a person is only able to jump a few times a year and still has the enthusiasm and enjoyment of a "full time" jumper why would you suggest they only be able to do a tandem jump? As long as the person realizes that they are not current and should not expect to walk onto the hot skydives I have no problem with it.
  21. Any wingsuit flyers going to x-keys this weekend for Freeze Fest?
  22. Homer prior to taking physics exam. Homer- "Alright brain, I don't like you and you don't like me; so lets get through this I will will get back to killing you slowly with beer." Brain-"Agreed" -From memory, might be a bit off.
  23. Thank you for the tips. They are greatly appreciated. Are you or Adam going to be doing any coaching this year or will your focus mainly on training jumps?
