Just curious if this is something that anyone else notices. I've only packed 2 Icons, but on both of them, I noticed that the reserve #1 flap seems to flop up and down from what appears to be too small of a hole for the #0 grommet that's pushed thru the stiffener. Today I had to pull one out and replace it because the stiffener has cracked a good 2 inches in each direction (I had ordered a replacement for this rig earlier because I thought to myself there was no way in hell it wouldn't end up cracked.) Anyone else notice this? "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

Need a repack in Baltimore
theonlyski replied to TulsaHogFan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Try contacting the local DZs and ask them if any of their riggers live in the area you're in. It's not uncommon at all. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message -
I sure hope his IFR cert is current. He could get ramp checked and ticketed otherwise! "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

SIGMA rig: premature container opening questions
theonlyski replied to skydiverek's topic in Tandem Skydiving
That's because they put a hesitator loop on the main as well. If the closing loop snaps, the hesitator should keep the main in the container if the drogue isn't set. But, that's if the packers use them, I can see them breaking a bunch and packers just not replacing them. Many moons ago I was involved in some illegal street racing. I was young, dumb and had a 74 Nova that would tear those Honda's to shreds. I lined up for a random race with a black Caprice Classic... Smoked the shit out of him only to see some red/blue lights in my rear view. Apparently the cops don't like being beat, so I stopped short of the finish line and let him win. Dunno if it was a cop or not, but hey, I'll let them win this one. SIGMA rig: premature container opening questions
theonlyski replied to skydiverek's topic in Tandem Skydiving
So, because the golf ball lines are too short, they wont always retract, you think there's better out there? IMO, nothing is perfect, but the SIGMA is the best we have (that I know of) and I look forward to the day when I can say that about a new rig. SIGMA rig: premature container opening questions
theonlyski replied to skydiverek's topic in Tandem Skydiving
What rig is that? I don't think it's out yet, but a dude can't remember his name, stopped by our dz with it. It looks like a wings with vector parts sewn to it. Sigma for the win again. I don't get why people buy any other tandem rig brand new. The TSO application just got filed for it... It looks like a Wings tandem rig would (anyone care to guess why? ). Anyways, its a brand new system but I see no improvements that would warrant people even changing to them from SDH's, much less going from a SIGMA to them. Precision's tandem rig also uses the 3 rings, FWIW. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message -

FWIW, anyone can upload to parachutemanuals.com, the posts just require Eric to approve them (which he's pretty good at doing, especially if you shoot him a message to let him know there's one waiting). such a bad idea.... get a modern OS, you will have significantly less issues down the road. shakes his head everytime he runs into someone on the internet with an obsolete OS... I might consider buying the latest Windows when I get a new computer. Going back to ~1999 using Win98 and then 2k starting in 2006, I've been infected by a bug once, and that was about a year ago. Took about 30 seconds for Malwarebytes to find and remove it. I am pretty careful where I go and don't click on just anything. I'm debating if I'm going to install my Windows 8 RC or not. There was a 300baud acoustic coupler available for the Osborne back right after it was released. Although for some reason my dad has kept the two he had, he never had a modem for them. I think I still have a 28.8 PCMICA card for an old laptop laying around... PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) Well, if you're gonna drop antique technology names, ya should at least spell it right! Having experience jumping with real students (ya know, like as a coach?!?) will get your mindset right, it makes everything easier (pre-jump lesson, gear up, equipment checks, overall safety and knowing how students react to things. Hardest for me was the ground preps, I always find it difficult to 'teach' someone that knows way more than you do about the subject (IE). Get your Cat C and Cat D lesson plans done, practice, practice, practice. During the course they will show you what they're looking for and how they approach the training, take notes and see what you can incorporate into yours. Use the available training aids, take the aerial picture out to the landing area and have them show (dry erase markers on laminated pictures work great) you their planned pattern on the picture, then have them show you using the actual reference points. Throw some problems in there (if you're not here by x feet, what are you going to do) to check learning and ensure that you've covered everything, handle harness (or whatever you guys have to train students on EP's with). Perfect demonstration, execution on the ground and again at mock-up. Fix everything before you get in the plane, it's too late then. If you get the chance for the pre-course, DO IT! Nothing beats going out with your actual evaluators and practicing (even dialing in your fall rate is a huge help). That can save you course jumps and they will tell you if you're ready to go 'Hot' or things to work on. We had a guy in the course show up with no helmet or AAD. We thought he was crazy, after the pre-course jump with spin stops, he dropped his rig, walked straight over to the gear store and bought a full face helmet. Relax! One of the guys in the course was getting stressed out on the plane, he had 10k jumps (mostly tandems), but he was stressing ME out a little... I had to tell him to relax a few times... If you're stressing out the 'stu', you're wrong. The jumps are no time to be freaking out and rushing, slow is smooth! I personally thought the jumps were the easiest and most fun part, was like a game... What's he gonna do now?!?! I still can't figure out how those guys got thousands and thousands of jumps, and still can't seem to pull for themselves! I went to one of Bram's courses (then went back for my tandem rating a few weeks ago). Like he said: They aren't there to make you into AFF-I's, they're there to see if you're ALREADY an AFF-I (mentally). Oh yeah, invest in caffeine for the ground portion... You can.. But because you have to attach it under the reserve flap you are "messing with the reserve". I think your rigger won't like it. But just cut the elastic and loop it under the flap, and hand tack it. But if you want to remain friend with your rigger you could ask him to stitch it on to the top of the rigg instead. Listen to Terry, I was just about to post the same thing he said when I scrolled down and saw he said it. I'd MUCH rather someone ask me to install it during a repack than to find someone tacked one down afterwords. SIGMA rig: premature container opening questions
theonlyski replied to skydiverek's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Yes, once your drogue is deployed, you cannot (barring any tearing of the container open) get a main bag out without the drogue being released. Keep in mind as Doug said, that's only if the safety pin is properly seated. If it is properly seated, you cannot activate a drogue release. To answer the question: I have experienced it on every jump I've done on a SIGMA, container opens and drogue automatically releases! Nope, was the girl just before her (I think). We didn't tell her that it was my paid tandem, but one of the packers did before she left. She had a good laugh and thanked me again. Who's Hotter - Jessi Combs or Kari Byron?
theonlyski replied to ZigZagMarquis's topic in The Bonfire
I wouldn't kick either out of bed, Jessi would be awesome to have around and I think I'd pick her first, then try to get her into a 3 way with Kari. It's not mentioned in the instructions because it's a 'hard reset'. Not something you should do a lot.
