  1. Aviate Navigate Communicate IMO: The less things ya got going on the better, I'd rather get the wings level, maintaining altitude, figure out where I am/need to be, THEN dick with the radios. I'd probably attempt to contact the local approach freq, flight watch, anyone in the area that'll hear me... then squawk 7600/7700 if unable to communicate... at that point depending on the situation, I may just stick on 7600... but I do have a little experience in the left seat of small Cessnas/Mooneys... Edit: I didn't post the meaning of the squawk codes because I want people to go look for themselves, the more you know type of thing. 2. Can you share these better ways with us? Sparky It is very simple - A predictable pattern determined before anyone gets on the airplane. Everyone lands in the same direction or you don't skydive. What if the winds have shifted 180* in the 20 mins you were in the air, now you have an entire load taking it downwind... sure, we SHOULD be able to all land downwind, but be realistic... 3. I'd also like to point out, it would probably be a good idea in this situation to squawk 7700 (for people scratching their heads, this is basically telling ATC that you have an emergency, ask your pilot to show you how to use your transponders, but keep that for emergency use ONLY!) John - in Marks description above, being deaf... would he be better off squawking 7600 or 7700? I'd tend to think 7700 so the controllers know there's something wrong other than the radio not working... and they can anticipate that it could include radio failure or inability to use it. 7. I didn't realize the PVC pipe was an option on Sigma drogues? I only have a hand full of tandems, but before each one, I go thru my handles check, tell the student my handles are all in place, attachment check (shaking each attachment point), tell them they're all attached and snug, then ask them if they're ready to skydive. This is before the door even opens. Haven't had any refusals yet, but have had a couple people try to take the plane with us. I usually get in their ear and tell them hands on their harness and relax... Fixes almost all of them so far. 11. Pretty good marketing strategy actually, one donated tandem = tons of free publicity and in a great light. I'm surprised we don't see more of them actually. Nice work Jim! 12. Ouch, don't say that too loud. You may not get a date for months if the word gets out. Also, make sure you enter the course at the right gate. btw I'm never going to be able to judge another swoop comp without thinking about sex the entire time. thanks guys Guess you would expect to see people upsizing from those tiny little things. 13. As I stated before... I thought that was already required. If it is not... Then I think it is an obvious step in the right direction. I could even see waiving that for a rated tunnel instructor... Since the main aspect is the ability to teach. Same thing with a licensed teacher. Currently it's coach rating for a year if you have less than 500 jumps. 15. Are you talking about flying to the states and buying gear to get past the import tax and shipping fees? If so, it is pretty common and saves quite a chunk of money from what I've heard. 16. If you're going to pencil whip a repack and just pocket the cash, at least put your damn seal on it... 21. A couple friends of mine moved out there, apparently jumping is horribly expensive. I have their gear here waiting for them to come back and jump. 23. My free advice: I'd run a longer support tape down further (along the slider re-enforcement tape) and bartack it 3-4 times perpendicular to load path. Take it for what it's worth: my 2 cents. 24. Not trying to harp on your comment. But military training rarely get exclusions for most things. The value of training doesn't supersede rules or safety. Operational requirements and missions can be sometimes left up to certain people's discretion. These operational do still have limits but for mission success can have a little more flexibility. Plus I think you missed joke. I think you missed my joke. 25. Having never seen one of these in proper condition, just a question. Is it one bartack that has failed at each attachment point?
