I started skydiving to be cool! But in the 25 jumps I have done so far, not one of them made me look cool. Maybe I should save up my money and buy a BMW and some shades? then I will look cool. Yeah!!! Live hard, Live fast, Die broke. D.S. 118118

Germain's article on the recession
Ryno118 replied to zipplewrath's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
People that freeze up in dangerous situations are not going to willingly put themselves into dangerous situations. And dealing with an dangerous situation doesn't make you special and above average. Its just a personality trait and just because people have different personalities, doesn't make them special and above average, just different. The way people react to threats is called the "Fight-or-flight response" and varies from person to person. But I take your point about being able to train people to deal with life or death situations. Soldiers always talk about how their "training kicked in" when asked how they dealt with a fire fight. Germain's article on the recession
Ryno118 replied to zipplewrath's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree with you about the dangers of convincing people to skydive. most people when faced with a life of death emergency, will fall to pieces and panic/freeze. This is obviously a bad thing when faced with a mal. But I wish someone would of introduced me to skydiving earlier. I spent years trying to figer out what I wanted to do with my life intill I stumbled across a skydiving video on youtube and realised this is what I want to do. Even then I had to look up lots of forums and DZ web pages to understand how to become a skydiver. I think a bit more could be done to promote this amazing sport. Live hard, Live fast, Die broke. I'd second that. Ocaña is a great student DZ too. Its called the freefall uni and is aimed at students. Live hard, Live fast, Die broke. D.S. 118118

I did my AFF with Skydivespain in Seville. They have BPA rated instructors so its no problem sending off for your A licence when you get back home. Its a great DZ and very friendy to all levels of skydivers. You get the A licence once you complete you AFF levels and consols and there is a lot that goes into getting the B,C and D licence so dont worry about that now. Some tunnel training is never a bad idea to make it all abit easier. Good luck with in all mate

Got fed up with just going down the same old pub with my mates and meeting the same old people. So decided to mix life up a bit. Always wanted to do a tandem one day so I looked up skydiving on youtube when bored one night to see what to expect and saw all the freeflying, wingsuit ect videos and knew this is what I want to do with my life. My mates did not want to do anything so I booked 10 days off work, flew over to spain on my own and did my AFF. never even bothered with the tandem. Last year was one of the best years of my life and this years going to be even better. Best decision I ever made. Live hard, Live fast, Die broke. D.S. 118118

altimeters-checked baggage or carry on?
Ryno118 replied to bigbearfng's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Lol, You got to love how they can be that organised when it comes to theft, but cant manage to unload your baggage in time. I was waiting for over an hour at baggage reclaim at Stansted Airport the other month. The instructions I got with my Alti-2 Galaxy said its accurate upto 18,000ft and can go higher than this without being damaged. Dont know if this goes for all analogs. For me freefalling is like laying on a cushion of air. You let your body sink into it and feel the wind pass through your fingers. You push the air around to move around the sky. Sometimes you have time to look down at the world and see the rest of the world going about their daily business whilst you fall towards the earth at 120mph. It gives you a real feeling of freedom. Then you look at your altimeter and its time to pull. You pull out your pilot-chute and you decelerate from 120mph to 15mph in a few seconds, pulling G's so much that you can hardly breathe for a bit. Then it all goes quiet. The only thing you can hear is a light wind and the slider flapping in the wind. You glide around for a bit then make your landing approach. You get about 15ft from the ground and flair. You almost come to a complete stop and you touch the solid formiliar and quiet ground. And you cant wait to load up and go again. And at the end of the day you head to the DZ bar, grab a beer and chat to like minded people, some of them you have only just met, about the days jumps and look forwards to tomorrow for another day of skydiving. No one wants to jump with a newbie :(
Ryno118 replied to katzg08's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Try saving up and going to a boogie at a big DZ. They usually have FS load organisers who will set u up with other new jumpers. Live hard, Live fast, Die broke. D.S. 118118 -

Hi! Im new to skydiving, But somtimes when I am climbing to altitude (around 10k) I get a nose bleed. It aint bad, Just a few drops worth after I feel my ears pop. Im usually relaxed and I dont ever get them on the ground when Im stressed so dont think its due to that. Just wondering if you have ever heard/seen this befor? Thanks. U can buy lots of closing pin necklaces on ebay, or just a closing pin and make your own like I did. I started wearing mine when I finished my AFF as a menento. Hopefully I will have it forever. Live hard, Live fast, Die broke. D.S. 118118

How do you use your Closing Pin Necklace?
Ryno118 replied to Casch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm doing my AFF at the moment and the first thing I'm going to do when I finish my consols is buy a closing pin necklace as a souvenir to remind me of the the day I made it as a fully qualified skydiver. I will probally wear it most days but not always showing, as I might look like a show off. Live hard, Live fast, Die broke. D.S. 118118
