Ya know? "The Onion" used to have headlines that were clearly parodies of all sorts of things. These days, when it comes to the MAGA idiots, I keep wondering if what they are doing and saying is really an article in the Onion. It's not, but it sure could have been, back prior to about 2015.

When you need a runway, but can only find a helipad
wolfriverjoe replied to ryoder's topic in The Bonfire
Yup. The Porter is a VERY capable STOL aircraft. The CIA operated "Air America" used them a lot in SE Asia during the Viet Nam conflict. They'd cut runways into the jungle on the side of mountains. Land uphill, so the slope cuts the landing distance. Unload/reload, spin around and take off downhill. Again, a very short distance. -
Bingo. Remember the MAGA moron after one of the hurricanes? "He's not hurting the people he needs to be hurting." https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-voter-hes-not-hurting-the-people-he-needs-be-hurting-msna1181316

Well, it's abundantly clear that fairly large segments of the population are intent on denying those (and other) rights to people they don't like. They seem to think that 'freedom of religion' means freedom to force their religion down everyone else's throats. Seen of FB: I can't do that because of my religious beliefs. Cool. YOU can't do that because of my religious beliefs. Fuck off.

Jack and his wife plan a safari to Africa. Because his wife's mother had never been to Africa, they decide, despite Jack's misgivings, to include her on the trip. The trip goes quite well and all three are having a good time, enjoying all the sights and all the wild animals. One morning, Jack and his wife wake up to find her mother not there. Concerned, they go out and start looking for her. Walking along the trail, they come to a clearing only to find the mother-in-law face to face with a very large lion. Jack's wife is very afraid and tells Jack: "Do something!!!!" Jack looks the situation over carefully and thinks for a few seconds. "Nope" he says, "That lion got himself into that predicament, he can get himself out"

Lots of places charge a 'wheel tax' that tacks onto the annual registration fee. Personally, I pay $10 per year. That money goes to the city I live in. Increasing registration fees (flat fee per car) is one way to get electric cars to pay for road use. The 'nice' part about gas taxes is that it's a direct result of how much you drive (and the type of car you choose). Big heavy trucks use more gas, pay more gas tax and do more damage to the roads. Driving a lot is the same. Personally, I use a very thirsty SUV for back and forth to work (I haul a bunch of stuff), but a far more efficient car in the summer, along with a very efficient motorcycle. One way to tie the taxes to use would be a tax based on miles driven. Self-reporting (odo reading each year with renewing registration) would address that. Sure, there would be some cheating, but random checks could reduce it. And cars are becoming both 'smart' and 'self aware', so having the car snitch to the state wouldn't be hard to make happen.

Yeah, I saw that tonight. New report I saw had the prosecutor saying that race was definitely a factor. Go figure. I'd personally love to see this guy die behind bars. No, I'm not a terribly nice person when it comes to shit like this.

Trump tried to deny military aid to Ukraine, in order to get a fake investigation of Hunter Biden. That's why he was impeached the first time. And, after the Russians invaded last year, Trump called Putin a 'genius'. Right now, estimates of Russian dead are upwards of 200k. Reality probably isn't quite that high, but they've lost a LOT of people. Not to mention the estimated ONE MILLION that have fled the country to avoid being drafted and sent to Ukraine to die. Your little propaganda video mentioned that Ukraine lost 145 men in one day. Russia has been losing hundreds every day. Some days in excess of a thousand men. You said the Russians stopped the Ukrainian counter attack. What counter attack? There hasn't been a serious one... Yet. But it's coming. Nobody except the Ukrainian high command knows when or where. But they've done a pretty good job with overall strategy. Remember last fall? The Ukrainians retook Kharkiv in a heartbeat. Kherson took a bit longer, but they ended up kicking the Russians well back. Don't be super surprised if they do something similar... Soon.

Hi Jerry, He can sue (and I hope he does) and he can and should win. That doesn't automatically mean a whole lot. He could get a multi-million dollar judgement, but if the shooter only has a couple hundred thousand in liability (homeowners) insurance, that's all he's going to get. Maybe dementia, but I'd bet against it. Or at least against it being a significant factor. Keep in mind, at 80, this guy saw Jim Crow up close & personal. Likely he was raised that segregation was the 'right way'. I'd guess that he saw 'antifa' & "BLM" under his bed at night. Like the guy in North Carolina who shot the black kid for getting lost, like the guy in Colorado who held two "antifa" at gunpoint (they were really roofing & siding door-knockers), this guy has paranoid fantasies of being 'targeted' by 'those people'. We even have one of that sort on here. I'd love to see this guy prosecuted, but it's Missouri. The couple that pointed guns at people for marching were not held accountable for their actions.

Slightly off topic, but storing pressurized hydrogen isn't all that different from CNG or propane, and those have been used in vehicles for a while, with very few issues. One reason for the few issues is that the pressurized tanks are external. If they get damaged in an accident, the gas leaks out, diffuses into the air and doesn't present much problem after a little while. For a short period, yes, there's an explosive mixture at the scene, but it's not there very long, and less so if it's windy. Flip side of that, local to me, a CNG powered straight truck had a forklift in the back. Forklift broke loose (or wasn't secured properly), moved forward, forks pierced the fuel tanks and the truck went up in a fireball (not really an 'explosion'). Pretty spectacular.

Nah. She's just a Saltine. You know, a 'cracker.'

Well, there is a "St Petersburg" in Florida.

Yup. Abso-fucking-lutely hilarious how fragile their little egos are. Almost as delicate as a... Snowflake.

With the funniest part being the type of people that drink that stuff are not usually the ones 'in charge'.

Well, all that has to happen for the war to stop is for Putler to stop killing Ukrainians. Pretty simple. Not gonna happen, but still a simple concept.

Hi Jerry, From the story: Funny how many communities are enduring 'what no community should have to endure'. Almost like it's expected these days or something. And, as always, 'thoughts and prayers.' For all the fucking good they do.

Actually? They want to see hot women in subservient positions. https://www.scirp.org/journal/paperinformation.aspx?paperid=114475

Well, just like everything else. It's only evil when OTHER PEOPLE do it. 'Cuz, you know, hypocrisy.

I was pretty sure your comment was 'tongue in cheek'. Which is why I posted the 'tongue smiley'.

I believe it was the first time it was posted here. Lots of stuff posted here is taken from elsewhere.

Feel free. I stole it from somewhere else.

Of course the MAGA morons are losing their shit over it. Of all the people I'd expect the MAGA idiots to call a "RINO", Coke-head Jr is NOT one of them. But, of course, the MAGA fools never cease to surprise me with how fucking stupid they can be.

Oh please. There's a fairly big difference between a 'media whore' and a "Russian propagandist". Media whores will say anything they're paid to. Russians will say anything Putler tells them to. Because he'll have them thrown out of a 16th story window if they don't.
-
Really? Got any proof of that? OTOH, Putler's yacht is fabulous. As are his castles. In fact, just about everyone close to Putler has a REALLY nice boat. And several HYOOOOGE mansions. Admittedly, they didn't get rich off of the war. They got rich looting the government coffers before the war. Which is why the '2nd most powerful military in the WORLD" is actually the '2nd most powerful army in... Ukraine"
