  1. Classic 'cherry picking'. You are choosing to only see the times he makes mistakes or stumbles, while ignoring the vast majority of the time where he's coherent and lucid, moving with grace and balance.
  2. Well, to be fair, those things (along with blatant racism & bigotry and Homophobia/trans-phobia) were already 'acceptable' to that 'sizeable fraction of the population.' Trump just made it so that they felt ok voicing that sort of shit in public.
  3. Abso-fucking-lutely hilarious that his lackey was in charge of the DOJ for FOUR YEARS and never charged Hilary with anything. Almost as if she... Never committed a crime. Well, they'll all be in prison. Maybe in the same prison. His supporters can cheer him on there. And he can ignore them there, too.
  4. It's almost like the people proposing those bans don't know what's ACTUALLY IN THE BIBLE.
  5. That's the really funny part. Putler is pretty much silent on it. He can't admit that the RVC & LSR are having success. Or that the Russian army is impotent against them. He's condemned the 'terrorist' drone attacks on Moscow, but the rest of the world laughed at that, given what Russia has done in Ukraine. Anything he says or does will be 'the wrong thing'. It's kind of along the same lines as what the Russian army can do. If they move troops from Ukraine to Belograd to stop the insurgents, they leave parts of Ukraine vulnerable. If they don't, they leave Russia vulnerable. Given their absolute shit logistics, trying to move stuff around would be just plain silly. They CAN'T move enough supplies for their troops in Ukraine. The idea that they'd be able to move a significant amount of force out of Ukraine to defend Belograd is ridiculous.
  6. Nah. He'll just be in favor of passing laws against teaching any history that 'makes straight people feel uncomfortable'. You know, kinda like Florida is passing laws about teaching history. There's a meme out there something like: The people that threw rocks at Ruby Bridges for trying to go to school are passing laws to prevent their grandchildren from learning about them throwing rocks at a little girl trying to go to school.
  7. Yup. The RVC & LSR have taken control of some parts of Belograd. Rather than trying to retake those areas, the Russians have just left. The cops and local authorities ran away. No army units have responded. So there's wide spread looting. No supplies, no gas, no trains, no nothing. And, of course, the Russians have responded with artillery. Shelling their own cities to deny them to the insurgents. So not only is Russia the 2nd most powerful army in Ukraine, it seems to be the 2nd most powerful army in... Russia.
  8. As long as it's put in a pocket and left there until after landing, it's not. I know a DZ that sends people out to the landing area for the last jump. Case of beer in the UTV to hand to landing jumpers. Every once in a while, it seems like a jumper who didn't come anywhere near the 'beer distributors' ends up with a beer in his (or her) hand.
  9. What 'infirmities'? Please be specific. He tripped over a sandbag that was in a bad spot on the floor. He has a stutter. Foolish and ignorant people ridicule that sort of thing and claim its a 'sign of dementia'. If anyone actually pays attention to the things he says and does, it's pretty clear he's in full control of 'his faculties'. Did you see the part of the State of the Union address where he sparred with the Rs about their intent to destroy Social Security? I can't find it with a quick search, but I came across a video recently of Biden discussing his stutter, how it's affected him and what he's done to overcome it (and the stigma). Again, if you think he is suffering from dementia, you are fooling yourself.
  10. Right. The 'difficult' was somewhat tongue in cheek. This sort of 'firehouse talk' is not ok. Ever. Both for the reasons you stated, and also because it's virtually impossible to separate the 'firehouse talk' part from the actual practice of the people when on duty. In the aftermath of the Michael Brown shooting in Missouri, the subsequent investigation into the police found a LOT of 'informal' racism. And a lot of institutional racism by the police towards the citizens. Go figure.
  11. Why? To commemorate the first former president going to prison? Or as a 'true crime' collectible when he gets convicted of fraud?
  12. By that point, EVs will be so established, that the main people 'celebrating' this will be classic car owners/collectors. I would expect that the tech will evolve enough that most of the other advantages of ICE cars will be diminished. Gas would have to be REALLY cheap (or electricity really expensive) for EVs to be cheaper to run than ICE cars Especially when you include maintenance in 'operating costs' (not just the price of the gas to run it).
  13. Nazis & KKK. Admittedly, they fall under 'bigots', 'racists', 'book burners' and 'the poorly educated'. But they're their own group of 'very fine people'.
  14. And ruin his perfect record?
  15. Facts? He don't need no stinkin' facts.
  16. 2 things. #1 - Despite the majority calling for new regulations, it's not likely to happen. The Ds hold onto a slim majority in the Senate, and they don't have one in the House. Do you really think the 'Freedom (from reality) Caucus' wouldn't do anything and everything to prevent any new gun laws? And many of the elections that the Ds won were by slim margins. Trump lost GA by around 20k votes. Wisconsin wasn't much different (I'm not super up to speed on the margins in other states, but IIRC, many were pretty close. The Ds know full well that they'd lose a fair amount of 'on the fence' voters if they passed new gun laws. #2 - You propose mirroring the NFA with military style semi-autos. Look up the 1939 Miller decision by the SC. It pretty much overturned the NFA. It was never fully put into precedent (or actually got rid of the NFA) because the new trial that was ordered for Miller never happened. It's a really odd set of circumstances, but the decision is there. Do you REALLY think the current SC would allow any significant new gun restrictions to stand? I simply cannot see them allowing an expansion of the NFA to include semi-auto rifles to stay in effect. I'm not discussing the need for new laws, or the merits of them. Just the reality that it isn't going to happen soon.
  17. Well, how was Trump supposed to sell them to the Saudis, and the Russians, and the North Koreans if he didn't make copies of them.
  18. So when is the 'right' time? He chose that time because the song being played (had ZERO to do with the flag, BTW) says a lot of things about freedoms that people who look like him simply don't have. If you want to find a place to encourage people to 'rise up to give our thanks and respect', you don't have far to look. Try the grandstands. One thing that stuck out to me during this whole controversy was the behavior of the fans. Some of those same fans were the ones calling for CK's head over his behavior, but many don't stand, don't 'pay respect', don't nothing. I can't find the article with a quick search, but I came across an opinion piece by the daughter of a fallen SF soldier. She pointed out the respect that kneeling gives, and counterpointed it with a number of instances where the fans were incredibly callous and disrespectful. One example that stood out was at Arrowhead stadium in KC, where the fans would end the song by shouting "CHIEFS" at the end, shouting it over the word 'brave'. Another was the 'throwing of the octopi' during the anthem at Detroit Redwings games. Her main point was that those acts were never called out for the disrespect they showed, yet CK was vilified. Why is that?
  19. Hi Jerry, A 'jury of one's peers' does NOT mean 'people like me'. It's a fair and impartial cross section of the community. And, in this case, the community where the crime was committed. Not the backwater redneck shithole this moron comes from.
  20. A bit pedantic, but the 5.56 NATO is NOT the equivalent of the 7.62x39 Soviet. The 5.45x39 Soviet (used in the AK-74) is. The 7.62 Soviet is roughly equivalent to the .30-30. A fair amount more powerful than the smaller ones. All of the 'turn of the 20th century' military .30 cal (.303 Brit, .30-06 US, 7.5 French, 7.62x54 Russian, 8mm Mauser) are pretty similar. The .308 (7.62x51 NATO) was a evolution of the .30-06 from the 50s, when powder technology and understanding of the physics improved. I find it interesting that an SKS is cheaper than an old .303 Enfield. Maybe 10 or 12 years ago, one of the local 'large discount sporting goods' chains would get large lots of old military bolt action rifles. Enfields, Mosin-Nagants (popular today in Ukraine), Mausers. Fair to poor condition, but not expensive. Yup. As noted, airguns that shoot .22 pellets shoot .22s, not .177. Same basic design of both gun and pellet, but the .22 is a bit bigger, slightly heavier and a bit more powerful. .22LR, however is a 'genuine firearm'. Gunpowder propelling a bullet (typically 40 gr).
  21. The same could be said of Richard Barnett. He's the guy who had his feet on Pelosi's desk. He's claiming "he was the victim of "political persecution" and said the jury that convicted him was "not a jury of my peers.” He got 4 1/2 years. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/jan-6-rioter-put-feet-desk-pelosi-office-sentenced-45-years-prison-rcna85848
  22. Casualties, especially Russian casualties are largely guesswork. Estimates for Russian casualties (dead and wounded) at Bakhmut run from 40k to over 100k. Higher rather than lower seems likely. For the prisoners that Wagner offered amnesty to, upwards of 40k of the 60k sent to Ukraine are dead (just the dead, not counting the wounded). And, on a slightly different note, 2 'independent Russian separatist groups' (Russians fighting for Ukraine) have invaded Russia. They crossed into Belgorod and ran around a bit. The Russian army is all in Ukraine, so all that was opposing the 'invasion' was some border guards. All that was sent as a 'reactionary force' was riot police, who are really good at beating up unarmed protesters, but not so great against actual soldiers. The best part is the statement by Ukraine: This virtually mirrors the statements by Russia back in 2014, when they invaded Ukraine the first time. There was nothing tactically or strategically significant about it. But it sure makes Putler look like a fool. And it might motivate Russia to pull troops from Ukraine back to Russia. That would be strategically significant. The Russians don't have enough troops to defend their lines as it is. Removing any would be bad for them.
  23. Nah. He's saying that there are a lot of fools who don't want to pay for AGW mitigation, so they don't believe it's real. He seems to admire their stupidity. He's also cheering for the bigots & bullies who want to 'cancel' Bud Light for having a trans person as spokesperson.
  24. Somewhat. I ended my membership with the NRA when they started being Russian puppets and Trump sycophants. Those 'other nations' have much stricter rules on gun ownership and possession. We don't. We don't seem able to enact them. Even after Sandy Hook, with the Ds in control of both houses & the WH, it didn't go. I agree that we need a solution. I simply don't know one that would work. I don't have a solution. I've said that more than once. But I don't see any of the other 'solutions' that have been proposed having any real effect on the situation. Even reinstating the 90s Assault Weapons Ban would have little to no effect, given how many guns are in circulation. What was done in Australia would not work here. European style laws wouldn't either. One BIG problem is that passing significant gun control would just about guarantee the Rs would take power. Which, in the current climate, would have a pretty good chance of destroying democracy here.
