  1. How about people who wave the Confederate Flag? Absolutely I do. There is a saying in the mountains, "The best home security is to fly the Confederate Flag in your front yard." It represents the heritage of the South and not slavery. We lost that fight and we know it. However, the Spirit of the South is stronger than that. It is directly linked to the Spirit of America. You do understand that the Confederate flag all but disappeared after the Civil War, right? It faded into history, where it belongs. Until the 20th century, when it became popular again. The KKK was primarily responsible for bringing it back to prominence. So your "Spirit of the South" is the KKK. Got it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 2. Not exactly. It shows that the cops (or feds in this case) were able to convince the judge that there is probable cause to search for evidence. It's more that the judge believes the cops are convinced that there is evidence. A bit of "hair splitting", but an important distinction. 4. Why would you tell the press this BEFORE doing anything about it? It's more political grandstanding bullshit and it really annoys me. Now Manafort, Flynn et al are specifically forewarned and can have that conversation with President Trump that starts 'hey, 'bout that pardon...' before the FBI come for them. While I'm sure that there were cautious before now, this is a giant alarm bell that tells them that they should be starting a more precise process of protecting themselves - getting stories straight, destroying any additional evidence missed the first time round etc. I'm gonna guess that both Flynn & Manafort are expecting to be indicted. I doubt that they were surprised by this. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  5. Well, I didn't know what it was either. But it was worth a "copy & paste" over to Google. The verse is interesting. The "fun" thing about the Bible is that there is a quote for just about every point of view. This particular one advocates speaking up for those who are being discriminated against. You know, kinda like those NFL guys are doing. Apparently, there was a woman singing the SSB who had that written on her hand while she was performing. While players were kneeling. 6. Warnings about gluten is becoming more and more mainstream fashionable now. It's all about what's popular and "fashionable". Celiac's disease is actually not all that common. And Gluten is an important nutrient for those who don't have it. But it's now popular to go "Gluten Free" for some reason. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. Well, Ken Burns has a reputation for excellence. There's a reason for that. I've heard it said that this may be Burns best work so far. I haven't been able to watch it all, but what I've seen is absolutely compelling. The interesting thing is the comprehensiveness of it all. There are only a few things that are completely new to me, primarily the perspective of the North Vietnamese, but to see it all in one package ties it together in a way that is amazing. For example, I knew a good bit about the South Vietnamese political situation. And about the Johnson admin's failure to grasp reality. And the futility of the strategy used to wage the war. But to see them all put together at the same time puts a new light on it. Add in the perspective from the soldiers and Marines who were there, their families at home (and the families of those who didn't come home) and that of those who were against the war and it all adds up to a piece of work that tells the story in a way that was never done before. This will win earn a lot of awards. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  8. Well, the "Twit in Chief" made a statement that the DPRK "won't be around much longer" and so their FM called it a Declaration of War. So, of course, his minions have to walk it back some. Is this idiot ever going to learn to keep his mouth shut and his ego in check? I kinda doubt it. He's had 70 years to learn the behavior, he won't unlearn it quickly or easily. 9. Stay hydrated and fed. Make sure you eat and drink. Not a lot, but something. Wear comfortable clothes that you can get dirty. They may have you roll around on the ground a bit (teaching proper arch, PLFs ect.) Pay attention in class. Once you let go of the plane, you are on your own. You may have some assistance (radio or other), but you need to do the necessary things to get down safely. Have fun. It's going to be scary, but that's part of the adventure. Don't forget to enjoy it. DO NOT under any circumstances say "But they said on DZ.com to..." Seriously, listen to your instructors. 10. The problem is that the "one thing" is usually an enemy. Like Iraq or Afghanistan. Or North Korea. I can only hope that the I/C finds indictable, impeachable offenses committed by the "Distracter In Chief". He can't pardon himself from impeachable offenses. That won't unify or unite us, but it would remove the most divisive force currently holding any real power. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. Quite a large percentage of the 'every one' community doesn't live in any of your fifty states. Still, I don't need a silencer. I'd have nothing to attach it to. The funniest part of that comment is that silencers are far more available in Europe than the US. Not necessarily the UK, but other European countries. In fact, some areas require one for hunting. 12. Yup. Do you mean people like THIS? Is that a good example of those who "spit on and disgrace our flag and our nation"? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  14. Would it be weird to bring in something other than beer? Will it be looked down on? I don't see why it should be looked down on - it's really the gesture that counts. On the other hand, you don't need to know about beer to buy it for others, and I'm sure nobody will care if you don't drink any of your own beer - they'll just be grateful that you supplied them with it! Edited to add: Good for you for having a responsible attitude to drinking and driving. :) ^This. Last weekend (Sept 23 & 24th) was hot and humid. The person who brought in a cooler full of water and Gatorade and said "it's here for all of us" was a truly kind and generous soul. And it was deeply appreciated. I don't drink either. Water, munchies, coffee in the morning (one of the "Box of Joe" things from Dunkin Donuts), all of those are appreciated. And maybe a 6 pack of beer every once in a while. 15. Kinda funny. When Abbie Hoffman took the mic in DC, wearing a shirt made from a flag, it was a huge issue about "disrespecting the flag." Apparently times, fashion and "respect for the flag" changes over the years. And it's more than a little bit ironic that Trump has harsher words for athletes who silently protest than for Nazis and who kill people with a car. 16. Which is why no one disappeared. It's kind of ironic. I know a variety of "Christian" people. Some are genuine and sincere. They do their best to live their lives in accordance with the teachings of Christ. Others are more of the "CINO" type (Christian In Name Only). They claim a "personal relationship" with Christ, but fail to even try to follow his teachings. They lie, cheat, steal, and all of those things, yet they claim to be "saved". Of the two types (and it's far more of a "spectrum" than a "type"), those closer to the "CINO" end are much, much more likely to talk about the Rapture, and their anticipation of it. It seems almost that they look forward to it. Not so much the "salvation" end of it, but the fact that they seem to think that they will be sitting up in heaven, watching those who were "unworthy" suffer through the Tribulation. They are also the ones most likely to try to convert people based on the "I'm saved, so I'll go to heaven and you will go and burn in hell forever unless you are saved too." Of course, any suggestion that their behaviors may affect their "rapturing" or their afterlife is met with anger and aggressive denial. 17. Well, if all people were treated equally, then you might have a point. If those "who came after" actually had a better life, then you might have a point. They don't want to "disgrace our nation", our nation is doing a fine job of that all by itself. They are simply calling attention to injustice and inequality. And, not terribly surprisingly, those who benefit from those injustices and inequalities are telling them to "shut up and do what I tell you." 18. The Vietnam War era is probably a good comparison. I was born in 65, so I don't have much memory of the late 60s, but I was a curious little kid and started watching the news at maybe 5 or so (hey, they had film of firetrucks and other interesting stuff). I remember the fall of Saigon and the chaos. I remember the protests and Kent State (my mom went there, so she was deeply upset by it). The country was deeply divided and troubled. Interestingly, PBS is running the Ken Burns/Lynn Novick. It is amazing (not surprising from Ken Burns). The parallels between the different times are not terribly close, but the divisions are very similar. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. Edges of fields often have ditches, fences and power lines. Many times those are not visible until the jumper is very low and has few options left. I was taught to avoid the edges for that reason. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  20. Simply replying to last post. This is a part of a much longer post on FB. Pretty clear and to the point. Link to original post on Facebook. Also, it's kind of funny (not really). Distraction and misdirection are the key tools for con men. So the "Distractor in Chief" starts a storm of reactions by posting this. And the story that Jared Kushner has been using a private, unsecured e-mail account since shortly after the inauguration, and been using it for official WH business gets ignored. https://www.google.com/search?q=jared+kushner+white+house+email&oq=Jared+Kushner&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.7167j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Coincidence? 21. A couple questions: Why did you turn with your rears instead of your brakes? You said (second sentence) "too late to turn". What do you mean by that? Do you know how to do a flat turn? Do you know how to flare turn? Please note that I'm not trying to rip on you. I'm simply trying to figure out your thought process. I've encountered "more than a few" newer jumpers who have misinterpreted the "no big turns below xx feet" to "no turns at all" and end up doing some pretty funky stuff on final because they don't think that they can correct any deviations. As noted above, this is something that should be taken up with instructors in person, and with people who know you. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. It figures that one of the smartest guys on the board would explain it well. The range I'm part of has a variety of folks that have gone through the process to get an NFA legal silencer. At one end, there's a single shot 22 rifle. If he puts the "CB" rounds through it, the loudest part is the hammer dropping. At the other end is a "silenced" .308. It it a lot quieter that way, but it's a relative thing. Probably about as quiet as an unsilenced 22 (but the sound is rather different). I wouldn't want to be close to it without ear protection. And (not terribly surprisingly) the "in between" stuff is, well, in between. And as for that last part, we had a "Nasty Neighbor" who didn't like us very much. No clue what she was complaining about either. One of her complaints was "why can't you guys use silencers?" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. ^This. It's unlikely that there are any pesticides or fertilizer or any other chemicals on the crops in enough concentration to do any damage. Most of that stuff is applied a lot earlier in the season and has either washed off or been absorbed. As was said, give it a good shake to get rid of most of the crap. A bit won't really matter and will blow out the next time you jump it. It takes a lot of dirt to require washing the container. Mostly I just brush it off with a stiff, natural bristle brush. You'd be amazed how clean it will get that way. And yes, I too thought this was about a farmer's claim to a DZ about crop damage. My original DZ had a "Corn Field Landing" jar. Anyone who landed in the crop field had to toss in a buck. At the end of the season, we gave the contents to the farmer. He always appreciated it. 25. And from the letter, it's pretty apparent that Netflix is well aware of that. They didn't say "shut it down, shut it down now!" And they said "get in touch with us if you want to do it again."
