  1. The problem is that D3O really doesn't offer much in the way of "protection". It's a "non-Newtonian" fluid (more or less) that is squishy until pressure is applied and then stiffens up. Which is not what you want in a helmet liner. Once it stiffens up, it will transmit, not absorb the impact. To the best of my knowledge, the only helmets that offer much for impact protection are the Pro-Tec and the Benny (which is Skysystems, which isn't makig them anymore AFAIK). 2. Since the President is the one who sent them there, it's his responsibility. Bush knew this, as did Obama. Since Trump has no concept of responsibility, nor of empathy, he was not capable of doing this very well. And, as I noted a while back, the original criticism of Trump over these deaths was a complete lack of acknowledgement of them. No statement, no tweet, no nothing. I wouldn't have criticized him for not personally calling the families. It sounds like Kelly knew that Trump wouldn't do this very well, and suggested he not call. 3. Can you cite a single example of an Democratic leader in Congress ever in any way, directly or indirectly, suggesting that gun confiscation as their goal? Yes. Diane Feinstein. In the late 80s & early 90s, gun control was gaining a lot of momentum. The Brady Bill passed, the AWB passed, and more was on the docket. There was a congress creature who held up a scoped hunting rifle on the floor and called it a "sniper rifle", indicating it needed to be further restricted (can't find the story on that one). Look up "Brady Bill Part 2" to see what was proposed. And most gun control advocates called that "just the beginning". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. Far out? Really? You are the one who said that it was your fantasy that this was a false flag operation perpetrated by the left. Care to expand on why that is your fantasy? Care to tell me what positives would come out of that scenario vs the apparent reality that it was a disturbed individual acting alone for reasons only he knew? What exactly would make a "false flag operation by the left" better than what the reality seems to be? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. Do you have any understanding about just how unlikely that is? And what it says about you that you hope for it? What makes you think I hope for that to be the answer? Your fantasy maybe? Well, in part because the definition of "fantasy" includes: It's pretty clear that you would like it to be a "false flag" operation, perpetrated by "the left" (financed by Soros perhaps?). That would remove any of the blame for it from anyone like you. Or anyone that you admire. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 6. It's been a few years, and I don't have a pic... Ours was totally removable. No attachment at all. A bit higher than the pic Peek posted, but not so high as to cover the circuit breakers. Plywood (1/2" I think), with 2x4s making it into an "L". 2x4 as the base, and angled up as braces. The base was wide enough that it kind of "wedged" into the footwell, and was stopped by the sides before it hit the rudder pedals. It worked very nicely. Solid enough that it didn't move or flex, "friction fit" so it didn't move. Carpet on the side facing the jumper. One more thing: Hook knife attached to the back (towards the panel) side, just in case. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. You're white and "older". And whether or not a person having carry permit coming back on the ID check or not depends on the state. In WI, they specifically have to ask for it. It won't come back on a simple license/ID check (or plate check for the owner). The law was written that way. Also it WI, a person is not required to tell a cop that they are carrying. If the cop asks, they have to answer honestly, but it's really a "don't ask, don't tell" kind of thing. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 8. Google search says: Sounds at least a little bit synonymous with "haven". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  9. I have serious doubts as to whether or not that thing would move under it's own power. The prop is tiny, the engine is not terribly powerful and probably pretty heavy. By comparison, look at the setup that powers the Powered Para-gliders. There's a pic of one down below. Much bigger prop, the engine is smaller, but it's a 2 stroke and is both more powerful and a lot lighter. And it's waaaaaaay overpriced. 10. That's just desperate. It's getting way too weird for me. What do you mean "desperate"? That's how it was. It seems when you are proven to be wrong, you accuse people of 'putting words in your mouth", or call them 'desperate'. I thought you were "out" a week or so ago. 11. Wow. If nothing else, this description of a "stop and frisk" defines "white privilege." Being called "sir", being treated respectfully, not getting 'proned out' (or shot) after telling the cop you are armed, all that. And the above is simply fantasy. The idea that the cop wouldn't take the weapon (at least during the interaction, in California they tend to keep it), the idea that the cop wouldn't run the id, carry permit, serial number of the gun, fully search the subject, all of that is completely unreal. 12. OK by me. Then you and your wife are first. Every time you roll into a gas station, grocery store or drive within a mile of a public gathering you and your wife are going to have a cop run their hands over your bodies, up your pants, across your chests, ask you two to spread your butt cheeks and jump up and down to see if anything falls out. Yes, that's stop and frisk. I don't believe that for a second. We do not fit the profile. Profiling is the first half of stop and frisk. So what you are really ok with is "everyone else." And it seems like the current "up and coming" profile for criminals & terrorists is "older white guy". Toss in a "Trump" bumper sticker or a Confederate flag and you have the profile of the ones most likely to commit a "mass shooting" or a Bombing. So would you be ok with "stop & frisk" if you fit the profile? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. If you do this, make sure you let the adhesive fully cure before trying to pull it off. My understanding is that full strength is reached in 72 hours. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  14. Well, first off, full auto is already heavily restricted. Banning "bump fire" stocks is likely to happen, yet they've been around for a while. How come this was the first use in a mass shooting? Will banning them do much? How about the "Hell Fire" spring thingy that goes behind the trigger? It doesn't work anywhere near as well as a bump fire stock, but it works ok (with a lot of practice). How about rubber bands? Wrap several around the magazine well and the trigger and you get the same effect. How about simply holding the gun and the trigger in a manner that does the same thing (recoil of the gun moves it back to reset the trigger, pushing the gun forward pulls the trigger). I knew a young guy who could fire an M1 carbine like that. It was the best simulated full auto I've ever seen done that way. No bump fire stock, no rubber band, no nothing. Just technique. What would "universal background checks" accomplish? EVERY recent major shooting event used weapons purchased through a dealer, with a check. The only shooter who didn't go through a check was Lanza (Sandy Hook). He murdered his mom and took the guns. He would have, however, passed a check if he had been willing to wait. You seem to want to "do something, do anything" to feel safer. The idea of more security at major events is perhaps the most laughable. In the most recent shooting, the shooter wasn't at the event. He was in a hotel room a half a block away. Should we search every hotel, apartment, any room with a window that overlooks a "public function'? We've had "security theatre" at airports for over 15 years. It's a fucking joke. "Take off your shoes and let the nice man feel you up". Yet every time there's a test of how good the security really is, the testers have very little difficulty in getting all sorts of stuff through. 15. Australia was founded as a penal colony, so there probably aren't any criminals there. If it weren't for the fact that you can spell, I'd think you are a sock puppet for Marc Rush. Well, signed up a while back, but no posts until recently. ALL those posts are in SC. Picked up the arguments very smoothly, as if he was here before. Pro gun, anti liberal. 17. Gerrymandering only affects elections for Representatives. It has no bearing on state wide elections such as the presidential or senate races. Maybe, maybe not. Part of the argument is that the gerrymandering makes it so the Democratic voters are discouraged from voting at all. And that does affect state wide elections. 18. It's fire season. This is a rather bad one, but they have it every year. It was about 25 years ago that they had a really bad one in Oakland that burned a lot of houses to bare foundations. And that was in the city. The insurance companies will adjust their rates. They will profit (long term) no matter what. How would this affect taxes? Fire departments are funded, they really don't cost all that much extra fighting fires vs sitting around the firehouse. The planes and helicopters are not cheap, but they budget for that. 19. Unlikely a backpack would stop a 223 slug, even at long range. From the angle he was shooting, many of the hits would be head wounds. Most of the rest would be upper body (chest, upper arm and shoulder). Once the crowd realized what was going on, started to duck down and scatter, the "shot to hit" ratio would go down. But for the first minute or so (plus or minus), the crowd didn't know what was going on, stood pretty much still and it was the proverbial "shooting fish in a barrel." Staying on target, with that sort of rifle, would not be terribly difficult. Pinpoint aim on full auto (or simulated) isn't possible. But that situation didn't require pinpoint aim. And, I was of the opinion that the "bump fire" type stock wouldn't have produced the type of shooting that took place. It appears I was wrong on that. 20. Well, I guess I see your point that there are those who think that "respecting the flag" is more important than standing up to injustice. Or that those athletes should pick a 'different way" to make their protest. And, many of them don't mention the skin color of the protesters. That would be overtly racist. And that it's entirely possible that they would have the same reaction regardless of what color the skin of the protester was. And, kinda like I said in the "Lord of the Flies" thread: Not all the people opposed to these protests are racist. But it sure seems like all the racists are opposed to them. The fire chief who called Mike Tomlin a "no good nigger" is just one example. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. You forgot to mention that George Soros is financing all of it. Well, the list of idiotic conspiracy claims is very, very long. I didn't include Pizza Gate, NASA kidnapping kids and sending them to Mars for the last 20 years, Lizard Aliens being in charge, the government hiding alien technology at Area 51*, or a host of other things. Einstein is credited with the quote that "The difference between intelligence and stupidity is that intelligence has limits." The idiots that believe that garbage seem to prove that. * - I've always found the claims that the "Alien Technology", primarily from the Roswell crash, are at Area 51 to be rather amusing. Anyone who has studied the Roswell incident knows that the wreckage was taken to Hangar 18 at Wright-Patterson in Ohio (really). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. On the bolded part how so? I don't like their method of protest but they certainly have a right to do it. I just don't see the racist component with disagreeing with it. Well, there has been a lot of "disrespect" for the flag and the SSB for a long time. Usually because it's too much bother to stand, or because people are too busy doing other things. For example, while the people in the stands may have been standing during the SSB, everyone inside the stadium was just going about their business. Everyone in the parking lot was busy partying. Team owners and their entourages were up in their luxury boxes, doing whatever. And at any given NASCAR race, the drivers and crew would be very busy getting ready for the race. They wouldn't bother standing with their hands over their hearts during the SSB. Colin Kapernick sat during the SSB twice without anyone even noticing. Yet once it became known that a black man was doing this, everyone lost their mind. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. Conspiracy theorists. There are also claims that it couldn't have come from the suite the authorities are stating where the shooter was, because you can't see any muzzle flashes on the videos. Ummm... There's enough ambient light in the area that any muzzle flash would be washed out. Vegas is very bright. And to be a bit pedantic, I hate the term 'conspiracy theorists" (or conspiracy theory). A "Theory" is something that has solid, scientific evidence to back it up. Provable, demonstrable evidence. Gravity, evolution and relativity are good examples of a "Theory". That the moon landing was fake, that the Sandy Hook shooting was faked, that the US was behind the Sept 11, 2001 attacks (or that a plane never really hit the Pentagon), the Illuminati being in charge of the world, Kennedy being assassinated by the Mob, the CIA or the Cubans... Or this shit about the Vegas shooting. NONE OF THEM stand up to any sort of serious, objective scrutiny. To call these things "theories" (or these idiots 'theorists') shows the same level of understanding as saying "Well, evolution is just a theory." Ok, rant over. 24. Based upon numerous articles that I have read over the years, the money in pro sports is not in the warm bodies in the stands. It is the TV revenue; the money from the warm bodies is not even close to the TV money. Jerry Baumchen Good point. I should have said money is the bottom line. But I've seen some talk of losing sponsors so it looks like they'll get hurt by this after all. Bob Church Anheuser-Busch is soliciting feedback from the public. I gave them my response. Well, there's a poll out there showing that 84% of people support the player's right to protest. Lower numbers agree with the actual method of protest, but it's still a minority that disapproves. 25. Who said anything about "ban"? I said in my earlier post that having the government decide what is and is not acceptable is abhorrent. And I have to say I find it rather funny how many people are up in arms about the players that are "disrespecting the flag" (actually it's the Star Spangled Banner, but don't let the facts get in the way), yet have no problem with the idiots that fly the American flag alongside the Nazi swastika. And I looked around the PJL site. What in particular offends you? Speaking up against sexual assault and an atmosphere that condones it? Speaking up against homophobia?
