Actually, it's the simplest proof of the sphericallity (is that a word?) From ground level, the horizon is fairly close. From 1800', it's a lot further away, and it's uniformly further (it isn't closer in one direction and further in another, assuming reasonably flat terrain). What more proof is needed? Bullshit. If it has actually "lost nearly all nutritional value" then we'd starve to death. I agree that the antibiotics aren't a good thing, but more because of the resistant strains that evolve from overuse. To a large degree, the hormones are more beneficial than detrimental. They allow much more efficient food production, leading to reduced costs. How harmful they are in the long term is not certain, and there are downsides. But, overall, the commercial production of food has allowed proper nutrition for a lot more people worldwide than in the past. But you are going to believe what you wish to believe, regardless of evidence. We all know that about you. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Is Fox news Trying To Save Itself, from trump?
wolfriverjoe replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
I think the stereotypical Fox viewer (not typical) can be succinctly summed up with a quote from Gene Wilder as the "Waco Kid" in Blazing Saddles: "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
Franken admitted what he did, acknowledged it was wrong and apologized. This is apparently not typical behavior. Moore (and a lot of his supporters, including Ron on here) are claiming it's all false, it never happened, and that it's a "vast left wing media conspiracy." Moore's supporters have even gone so far as to impersonate a newspaper reporter to enhance the idea of the 'media conspiracy.' "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Well, the Governor of the fine, fine state of Alabama realizes that he's probably a sexual predator (or at least used to be), but she's going to vote for him anyway. Can you post gofundme links for fellow skydivers?

No. It's not against the rules. There's a sticky over in the Bonfire forum that addresses it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
Don't be so sure on that. The latest poll has him trailing by somewhere above 10 points. http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/11/15/new-poll-shows-roy-moore-trailing-democrat-doug-jones-12-points Note the source for both the linked story and the poll. Kinda hard to put that one down as a "fake poll" from the "liberal media". Personally, I think it would be funny as all hell if he lost. For a variety of reasons. The behavior Moore is accused of happened back in the 70s. Trump's accusers go back decades. So do Weinstein's. There are a variety of accusations coming out in Congress that go back a long, long time too. This is not a 'new' problem. Simply that women finally feel that they will be believed if they come forward. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." That's because your party put a President into power who is a self admitted sex offender and now everyone has had enough. This year will likely be remembered as the Year of the Sexual Predator Purge or something like that. The election of a clear sexual predator to US President is one factor. The exposure of Harvey Weinstein is another. I think this will be the "Year of Me Too". Women are coming forward like never before. All over the place. Roy Moore's claim that "you are a young girl and I'm a prosecutor, nobody will believe you" has been all too true for a long, long time. Look at how Trump's accusers were treated. Trump himself threatened to sue (how did that come out again?). That may be coming to an end. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I was raised in Indiana. I know the cold here is not comparable, but i think when we moved here my body decided that it didnt wanna be that cold again, therefore making me a cold natured person, hell idk. 30 degrees at altitude isnt something that interests me but when you find something you love..... I signed up for level one on Saturday and im so mad at the weather! It didnt look like this yesterday and Im hoping that by Sat, it changes. All week its supposed to be sunny and in the 50s. Saturday its partly cloudy with rain and thunder, but its gonna be 65 and only have 10 mile an hour winds! ugh. I don't think naked skydiving is my thing, hell i didn't even know it was a thing lol. I hope its a joke. Cold is relative, and subjective. Something to keep in mind is that the lapse rate is about 3.3 degrees per 1000'*. So it's going to be somewhere near 45 degrees cooler at altitude than on the ground. But you won't really feel it. You are only in it for a short time, and you will be so focused on the jump that you won't notice it. I've jumped when the temp at altitude is well below zero. No real issues. Dress for it and you will be fine. The thread I linked above covers it fairly well. And yes, Jeff and SANS and naked jumping are very real (link is potentially NSFW). Jeff holds the record for consecutive months with at least one naked jump. In Wisconsin. Well over 10 years worth. As far as I know, he is the uncontested holder of that record, mainly because he's the only one who attempts it. Don't worry if it's "not your thing." As a married woman with kids, it wouldn't be surprising if you turn down any invitations. But don't be too surprised if those invitations appear. *The temp decreases at approx 3.3 degrees F per 1000' under "standard conditions." This is called the "Average Adiabatic Lapse Rate." In the real world, it can vary quite a bit, depending on a lot of variables. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Master Rigger: How Important?
wolfriverjoe replied to bamber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
IIRC Bamber was the one asking to do systematic water landings for students in order to reduce landing injuries And tandem static line jumps too. And it seems like the incident in the now deleted post was a "no pull". It's now in Incidents. Nothing whatsoever to do with packing. Well, since it's Alabama, they might. But I bet they are more likely to listen. ***Nelson said before Moore opened the door -- at which point she either fell out or he pushed her out -- he told her: "You're just a child and I am the District Attorney of Etowah County, and if you tell anyone about this, no one will ever believe you." Given the reaction of the GOP and the evangelicals, it would appear that he is right. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Master Rigger: How Important?
wolfriverjoe replied to bamber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, first off, was it a student? The story you linked has no details at all. And for a mainstream media story to say the parachute "failed to open" is in no way whatsoever definitive. Second off, you might familiarize yourself with the rules for packing. There are different rules for mains and for reserves. Gonna guess that TK follows those rules at Z-hills. The story you linked has no info as to whether it was the main or reserve that "failed to open". You really have no clue, do you? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." "Cold" is relative. I'm gonna guess that she thinks anything below 50 or so is "cold." OTOH, I live in Wisconsin. You can tell it's really cold around here when people go outside and do Middle School level physics experiments to see how cold it is (really - at -20F, a cup of boiling water can be tossed up and come down as snow). To the OP: One thing this place can be good for is just looking around. Go back through the forums and see what thread titles look interesting. One that is applicable to your question: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4864403;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." They know how to grow the economy. They know how dangerous huge government deficits are. They aren't dumb. But the Koch Bros sure seem to be. They (well, two of their "SuperPACs anyway) are running attack ads here in WI. They are going after Sen Tammy Baldwin, claiming that the "Tax Reform" (boy, is that a misnomer) would benefit "average workers". Yet, the plan would do a fair amount of damage for small businesses who want to provide 401k programs. Go figure. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." What exactly are you looking for? Health covers your injuries. Make sure it covers jumping, Many (most?) do. Life pays when you die. Make sure it covers jumping Some do, some don't. Disability pays when you get hurt and can't work. Aflac is a well known one. Most don't cover for jumping. 3rd party liability covers damages you do to other peoples stuff. For example, screwing up your landing pattern and ending up plowing into someone's car in the parking lot. USPA membership comes with that. Most places will offer a temp membership to students, and require it for licensed jumpers (you have to be a member to have a license). Glad to hear you are pursuing AFF. Good luck and have fun. Yup. If you "go after" the Scientologists for their behavior, then there are a lot of so-called "Christian" churches that do essentially the same thing. Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker got nailed for fraud. Selling way too many timeshares for their "theme park" than could possibly be ued. But their fundraising behavior in other areas was little different than the Scientologists or any other scammer (using a "church" as a front or simply running a con). And be careful calling them a "pyramid scheme". They aren't, not technically. And they tend to sue anyone they feel has "slighted" them. I can't find it with a quick search, but Fresh Air with Terry Gross did an interview with Trey Parker & Matt Stone from South Park, and they talked about this. They did an episode that was a rather vicious send up of Scientology & Tom Cruise. Knowing the Scientologist's tendency to go after anyone who insults them, the show brought lawyers to the script writing. Rather than risk getting sued after the fact, they had lawyers advising them on what they could & couldn't say. Apparently, Parker & Stone had never seen lawyers have that much fun. And one thing they couldn't say was that Scientology was a pyramid scheme. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I've been around a few years, and learned by Static Line, so I tend to have an "old guy" view. Personally, I pull at 3k. I've had a couple long snivels, spinning line twists, spinning deployments from brake fires, hard pulls that took a few seconds, ect, where I've been down to about 2k as the lowest when open. I didn't have any big issues with it, and pulling down there (pitching around 2500) wouldn't bother me. When I started, lots of guys pulled around 2k. Some lower ("I pulled at 2k, that's my story and I'm sticking to it). Having gear that is known and trusted, being sharp and current on EPs and being ready to execute them instantly when needed are all important when pulling that low. The guys who routinely pulled "lowish" were all pretty clear on that. They were doing it, but not doing it without thinking it through and understanding it. A few of them had cutaways that they said wouldn't have been needed if they were higher. As in "If I had pulled at 3, I would have had altitude to deal with it, but I didn't, so I got rid of it." The raising of the USPA minimums (waivable by an S&T A) is far more for the AAD and H/C manufacturers than " safety." There haven't been a whole lot of low pull incidents*, but there have been a number of AAD fire, but reserve not out ones. Raising AAD activation altitudes is only possible if the minimum pull altitudes are also raised. In general, I don't have a problem with the minimums being higher. Overall, pulling low is far less common than it was in years past. *Low pulls (down to about 2k) don't seem to be much of a factor in the incidents. Chops with no reserve usually seem to happen where either the chop is way too low, or with the chop high enough to get the reserve out, but for what ever reason, the reserve doesn't come out high enough. Actually, no. He's wrong (as usual). I agree that it's a complete scam. The misbehaviors are well documented. But it meets most of the "tests" for a religion. It's origin story isn't any more (or less) ridiculous than any other (especially the Mormons). And if you single out one religion to lose it's tax exempt status, then all are vulnerable. Except that it's likely that the "good" religions wouldn't be at risk, while the "bad" religions would be. How long after this would Trump propose taking the tax exempt status away from Muslim mosques? It's very similar to the philosophy that even the Nazi's and KKK should have free speech rights. I have a Sabre2 170, loaded about 1.15:1. It opens nicely, as long as I pull the sides of the slider out. I had some issues with hard openings, and had it suggested to do that. It helped a lot. Opening headings are something of a crapshoot. Sometimes it's on heading, more often it's a 45-90 degree turn. Sometimes its more, but hardly ever more than 135 or so. Line twists are rare. I used to get brake fires every so often, but I have switched stowing my brakes to have the line going down go inward rather than outward and that has eliminated it (so far anyway). It's fun and "sporty" to fly. Toggle and riser input are all pretty responsive. Flaring and landing is pretty nice. Flare is powerful enough to "pop up" a few feet if I overdo it. Flat enough glide that I can get back from a 'longish' spot when needed. As noted, the Sabre (original) and Sabre2 are competely different canopies. If you really liked your old Sabre (original), keep in mind that they are still out there. Wingsuit guys like them. Things can be done to tame the opening if needed. Slider mods are typical. Pocket sliders, domed sliders and bigger ones are things that I have heard of being done. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Just out of curiosity, what do you think the chances are of having an intruder come into your church (or anywhere in your community) to shoot a large number people? Not an intruder targeting one person, but a shooting similar to the one in Texas. One in a million? One in a thousand? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
