I pretty much like the new format. But... (of course there's a 'but') User names on the posts no longer have the 'normal' info. Jumps & time in sport, join date, post numbers, that sort of thing. Format is odd. The 'quote' and 'xxx said' seem wrong. The post runs right into the sigline, and you can't tell what's a sigline and what's the actual post. This may be a carryover for old posts and go away with new posts. What's with the 'user reputation'? Is there any where that covers the new layout and posting techniques? I'm used to the old 'markup' style, and while the auto embedding of links is handy, I'd like to know how to make the 'hidden' clickies.

Alright. Now the shutdown is getting serious. Airport security? National Parks? Coast Guard? Who cares? But the BATF is shut down too. Which means they can't issue approvals for labels... Mandatory DNA test for male healthcare workers

Understood and agreed. However, comatosed women generally get their periods. Pregnant women cannot get their period, but can experience vaginal bleeding/spotting. I believe Bill's implication to be that a caregiver should have noticed the lack of period and therefor the indication of a possible pregnancy. My comment was aimed at that. Post #31 - As I noted above, jclalor works (or used to work) is a long term care facility. If anyone on here would know what is typical, reasonable, possible; atypical unreasonable or impossible, it would be him. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Canopy transition for downsizing
wolfriverjoe replied to Ericakeeley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok, those all sound in the 'reasonable' range. I'm seriously opposed to radical downsizing, but I don't see what you want to do as that. When I started, it wasn't uncommon for people with under 100 jumps to move to fully elliptical canopies, loaded well above 1:1. They were told to 'be careful', and off they went. Some (not all, not even most) got hurt. A few died. Many later realized how foolish & dangerous their choices were. By the end of the '0s', enough people had made the statistics that USPA embarked on a campaign to encourage reasonable & responsible downsizing. I recently found the "Femur is NOT a verb' poster they put out (anyone else remember that one?). A good friend of mine started jumping a 170 Diablo, loaded around 1.4:1 at less than 100 jumps. He had the approval of instructors & an S&TA at my old DZ to do so. He did ok on it, but went to a Crossfire2 a few years and a few hundred jumps later. The Diablo was hard to swoop, and he wanted to do that. 15 jumps on the XFire and he misjudged it, plowed into the ground. Double femur (one compound) & pelvis. In your case, you are not using a high performance canopy. In planform or in size. Depending on a few other factors, it may be an ok move. And when I was jumping the Manta, the only way I could get the fronts to come down at all (I could do pullups on one or both) was to do it before popping the brakes. It was part of the A-License card and that was what I was given as a suggestion to do. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Mandatory DNA test for male healthcare workers
wolfriverjoe replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Agreed. IF this is actually what happened (that the family chose to inseminate -- not necessarily the rest of the conditions you listed), then does it fall in the category of rape, or is it some other violation? My point was that I was questioning the family's version of events (as well as the facility's). I don't see how no one knew she was pregnant until she went into labor. If that can be explained, then perhaps ... but if no complaints were filed and no investigation until afterward, and the family seems ready to just move on and raise a healthy child they supposedly weren't expecting, then I question either the way in which the child was created or the frame of mind of the family. Wow. It really was you. In any case, sexual contact of any kind is 'rape' (more properly termed 'sexual assault'). I can't conceive (pun not intended) of any way a woman could become pregnant without some sort of sexual contact. Even artificial insemination. The intent may be clinical, not sexual gratification, but the contact still meets the definition. Also, by definition, an unconscious person cannot consent. Ask Brock Turner about that one. If the family decided that they wanted the woman to have a child (and I see it as a real but remote possibility), then doing it without involving the facility and some sort of medical personnel would be both reckless and illegal. I'm not sure how there's any way to get around the 'consent' issue short of her leaving clear and specific wishes to have a child. I can see a few different ways nobody realized she was pregnant. jclalor works (or used to) in long term care, and he didn't seem to see it as an impossibility. The family's mindset is hard to pinpoint. And it is likely a lot more complicated than can be summed up in a short article. It is their relative. They may be looking beyond who the father is and focusing on who the mother is. They may see a big payoff from a lawsuit. It's a very complex situation. And I doubt we know more than just a small part of it. And going back to the original subject (the search warrant), I've been thinking about it. I can't see any way this would stand up to a competent court challenge. If any of the subjects of it have a decent lawyer, if the ACLU is willing to take it up, I think there would be an injunction against the searches. This is the rough equivalent of the cops knowing there's a drug dealer somewhere on a block. But not knowing which house. Would a judge issue a search warrant for an entire block of houses, knowing that only one is a drug house? I doubt it. In this case, the judge is requiring a fairly intrusive search of a group of people, knowing that only one (maybe) is guilty of a crime. The judge is forcing people he knows (or should know) are innocent to be subject to this search. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Its not a joke. Trump has stated he prefers soldiers who don't get captured. He's insulted the family of dead soldiers. The fact that normal people would say this sort of stuff and it would be a joke (in bad taste) simply emphasizes how horrible of a CinC Trump is. Giving Trump a pass on it over the 'sensibilities' of the very people who he: A - Has no concern what so ever for. B - Is putting into danger. C - Has almost certainly betrayed through his 'relationship' with Russia That ignores or minimizes or 'gives him a pass' on what is, to me, his most disgusting behavior. And the list of "Trump's disgusting behaviors" is pretty long and pretty disgusting. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." And I gotta love how they are STILL blaming her for the military response to the attacks on the embassy in Benghazi. Since when does the Secretary of STATE have responsibility for military affairs? When things went bad in Somalia (Black Hawk Down), there was significant criticism of how the military reacted, how the Pakistani "rescue" force had just sat in their compound while Americans were under attack, all of that. The heat came down on Les Aspin, Secretary of DEFENSE. You know, the guy in charge of the military. I'll agree that mistakes were made before the Benghazi attacks, but I can't see how HRC was responsible. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Huh? To add onto Phil's comment, I've read TriGirl's posts for a while. For her to say it can't be rape because it was a family member who did it goes against just about everything she seems to stand for. There are a few people who I would expect this sort of comment from. She is NOT one of them "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Maybe Marc is right, maybe there was no collusion, just treason It won't be treason. That's a pretty clearly defined and specific crime. It uses words like "enemy" and "in time of war". While Russia may be an adversary, and a hostile one at that, we aren't at war. During Flynn's recent hearing, the judge asked why he wasn't being charged with treason. The judge later retracted those comments (but not the 'you sold your country out' one) because Flynn's crimes didn't fit the definition. Lots of folks have done lots of things for Russia. Aldrich Ames gave the then Soviet Union information on Russians who were working for the CIA. Many of those agents were executed. Betrayal, and criminal. But not 'treason'. I think the USA Today article Billvon quoted is pretty close. I do, however, believe that Putin & Russia have more on Trump than just financial misdeeds. Those are probably pretty extensive, but revealing them would force Russia to admit how deeply the Russian Mafia and Government are tied together. I would bet (and fairly heavily) that Russia has some sex shenanigans by Trump on tape. Based on his past, I would suspect that it involves young girls. Well under legal age. And that Trump acknowledges (and likely brags about it) on the tape. As Ron has commented, the S is about to H The F. But not in the way he wants it to. We're likely facing a huge kerfuffle, and if the Rs don't realize how bad this is, and join with the Ds to force him out, it could get ugly. Canopy transition for downsizing
wolfriverjoe replied to Ericakeeley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First off, you might fill in your profile some. A bit of info goes a long way when answering these sorts of questions. Now, some questions for you. You don't have to give me the answers, but you should know them. 1 - What is your wingloading on the 190? On the 170? Keep in mind that wingloading is your weight, when fully geared up, divided into the size of the canopy in square feet. 2 - You say you PLF a lot of your landings. Why? Bad flare timing, bad height judgement (similar, but not the same), bad flaring technique, inability to flare properly (again, similar but not the same), inability to run out the landing (lots of reasons for that), simple fear (when you PLF landings you could have stood up). The idea of getting video of your current landings and having an instructor critique them is a good one. Some canopy courses include this. 3 - How good is your canopy control other than the landing? How is your pattern, approach, all that? 4 - How was the 190 to fly and land? Was it 'scary fast'? Did it feel like you were almost out of control? When I got my first rig, I went from a Manta 288 to a 190 Triathlon. Nothing between. But the Tri was only loaded at 1:1. I had been making consistent landings under the Mantas, good patterns and good, on target, stand up landings. The Mantas ranged from almost new to almost totally ragged out. Some had a nice, strong flare, some you flared as hard as you could a bit higher than usual and hoped it slowed down before you hit the ground. Although it was a pretty big 'leap', the transition wasn't all that difficult. I picked a day with moderate, steady winds to land into. I did a high pull and practiced my flares a bunch. It worked out well for me. I never had any real problems with it. But, again, it was a conservative wing loading and a fairly big canopy, despite being a 'big jump.' You are not me, and your experience and choices may be different. Chose wisely. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." It's a helluva leap forward, period. We're still a long, long way from practical, room temp superconducting. And I likely won't live to see it. But S/C at those temps has some practical applications. And lots more theoretical ones (Lab applications). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Well, you have to remember that Trump-style 'negotiating' is pretty simple. He demands what he wants. He calls people names, flings insults and generally throws a temper tantrum until he gets it. The idea that he won't get all of what he wants, the idea the he might have to compromise, the idea that other people have any say in the outcome is simply beyond his capability to understand. Actual negotiation is not something he's even capable of. Iran, China, the TPP Agreement, all of those are fine examples of his behavior. So your sheriff is violating the civil rights (first amendment freedoms of religion, association and travel) and you are in favor of it? Mandatory DNA test for male healthcare workers

Considering a judge signed the warrants, you are clearly wrong. I will be happy to revisit when more information becomes available. Judges make mistakes. That's what appellate courts are for. All the way up to the Supreme Court. In this particular case, I think the judge is way out of line. This is far more of a 'fishing expedition' than a 'search based on probable cause.' There needs to be more (a lot more) than 'he had access' to justify a search warrant. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." You can count on that. Perhaps reflect on Luke 6:42 in that case. New York 9:11 Benghazi 9:11-12 So your fear, bigotry and hate triumph over the "Word of God." Why am I not terribly surprised. Your intellectual honesty is refreshing. And appreciated, at least by me. If you are serious about changing the post, you can PM Billvon and ask him to edit or delete it. He's usually pretty good about that sort of thing. Although, I do have to admit that the 6 hour (?) limit on edits is kinda cool. It makes it harder to go back and change stuff. Isn't it incredible how we are able to be against illegal immigration and not call for a wall along the length of the border? We are even able to apprehend and detain illegal immigrants without a wall. Maybe Trump can send some of your people over for some lessons? But then, as much as I am not a fan of Trudeau, I don't think he needs a gimmick to try and remember to talk about immigration. No wall, but how about a Privacy Hedge. The GoFundMe raised a record amount of money in a record amount of time. For a nice line of shrubbery. Note for the gullible - It's satire. You mean like when someone running for high office claims they are all rapists? Or claims that everyone coming in the 'caravan' are violent thugs being paid by 'liberals'? Or, she bought into the "I'm for the little people" lie. Some of the Trumpeteers believed that he would take power away from the "insiders". Well, he shouted "LOCK HER UP!!!!", didn't he? Didn't that mean he was going after the 'elite and powerful"? Didn't that mean he was going to be for the 'little people'? We really need a 'sarcasm' font. Probably because he was told by enough people (including Sessions) that it wouldn't work. Or that they (the folks in the Justice Dept) would not do it because it's against the law. I have no doubt he would love to emulate his heroes, Putin and Kim Jong Un and 'lock up' anyone who disagrees, dissents or mocks him. Fortunately, there are enough prosecutors (like all of them) who realize that HRC, Comey, CNN. the New York Times, ect have good enough lawyers that they would not only see those 'charges' dismissed almost immediately, the 'criminals' would have very solid grounds for false arrest lawsuits. Of course, the Reicht Wingers ignore that. They scream "LOCK HER UP!!!" about HRC's emails and ignore or actively defend the exact same behavior by Invanka.
