Thank you. I've said a few times: These are not conspiracy 'theories'. A theory is a scientifically tested and proven set of explanations for observed phenomena. Gravity, evolution, relativity. Crap like '9/11 truth', Covid Vaccine microchips, The Illuminati, all that shit are 'conspiracy fantasies'. A load of crap that ''true believers" spew in an attempt to sound smart.

I very seriously considered a plug in hybrid. I went with the Bolt (pure EV) for a few different reasons. (in no particular order) PHEV have fairly short electric ranges. Under ideal conditions, my Bolt will go over 300 miles on a full charge. PHEV will go less than 100. Some a lot less. Complexity. PHEV still have a full gasoline engine. Oil changes, belts & hoses, coolant changes, all the difficulties and complexities of an ICE car. EVs require brakes, tires and coolant flush/change (Bolt has a liquid cooled battery - it makes it much more reliable and durable). That's it. Cost. A PHEV would have run well over $40k for the age/mileage I wanted. New run upwards of $60k. And that's for a Toyota, not the Porsche. As some have noted, EVs aren't for everyone. But, kinda like the big pickup truck, if someone looks closely at what they actually need in a vehicle, they might find an EV fits better than they thought. I certainly fall into that category. In the 2 months I've had it, I haven't run into a situation that I felt I couldn't do anything I wanted to. And, while it's parked for the winter, I have an ICE car that will fill any needs the Bolt can't. It may be nearly 40 years old, but I took it to California & back about 10 years ago. It may not be brand new, but it's in great shape and I'd trust it to go anywhere I wanted to.

No. That's just 'REALLY fucking stupid.' And, apparently, a really handy way to launder money. https://wegotthiscovered.com/social-media/donald-trump-nft-trading-cards-money-laundering-scheme-tiktok/

Some of us don't question mythical things. We know that they don't exist.

There are a variety of .22LR rifles that come in a 'tactical' package. AR look alike are common, as are MP5, AK, and others. There's also a decent market for 'dress up' kits for the 10/22. All sorts of different styles can be found. Silly and fairly stupid, but it's pretty amazing how well 'Silly & Stupid' sells.

I would have love to get a Tesla. But they were priced well above my budget, unless I was willing to go a good bit older and higher mileage than I wanted to. Got a nice 2020 Bolt, 16k on it for a bit over $22k out the door. I'll get $4k of that back when I file my taxes in a month or so.

In situations and applications where they are a good fit, they'll be great. Long haul isn't going to be one. MAYBE line haul, where the run is between terminals that can have chargers or perhaps a battery swap setup. Or simply swap out the depleted tractor for a fully charged one. Also, the Tesla charger network is growing fast. On I80 through Indiana & Ohio, the service areas all are getting multiple Tesla chargers in. Like 6 or 8 per location. I've yet to see all of them in use, let alone a line.

My house was built in the 1950s, but the electrical service (along with plumbing) was updated nicely before I bought it. Not perfect, but the setup is adequate for my needs, even with the new EV.

Who's charging that kind of money for an install? And exactly what is being installed? A new Chevy Bolt comes with a Qmerit 'standard' installation of a Lv2 Charger. There are restrictions and limitations, not everyone gets it for free. Basically you need space & capacity in the panel for a breaker and not have the panel so far from the car that it takes 'too much' materials to get the power there. Note: I didn't go this way, I bought used so I didn't qualify. Personally, I had a 30 amp, 240v circuit I wasn't using. It was for a large window A/C unit that I never used in the 20 years I've owned my house, Adapting it to charge the car was simple (and figured in the calculations that decided I'd go electric). Less than $200 for charger that could adjust amps (I needed one that would charge at 24 amps to safely use the 30 amp breaker). A 14-50 outlet to match the charger, replacing the 6-30 for the A/C. Conduit to run the wiring through. WIre (I had a bunch of 10ga wire to use, which is one reason I kept the 30 amp breaker instead of upgrading to a 40). Since the existing 6-30 outlet was 3 wire, and the 14-50 is 4 wire, I just unhooked the 6-30 line at the box and put 4 wires (2 hot off the breaker and 2 to the ground/neutral bar). Run it all to the back door, mount the outlet to the wall, cut a corner out of the bottom of the door to run the cord out. Materials (not including the wire that I already had) were less than $50. Install was supervised by a licensed electrician who owed me a favor.

Seen elsewhere: 'The question isn't "When did the world become 'Woke'? " ' It's 'When did your outlook become so evil and twisted that 'Woke' seems abnormal?'

I used to go up into Canada on a regular basis. These days I pull a refrigerated trailer, and my company doesn't take those into Canada. The first time I fueled in Canada, I thought the pump was broken. They have a rule up there that both pumps don't go at the same time. I did my usual 'start the driver's side, go around, get the passenger side going, lift the hood and check fluids' process. When the passenger side shut off, I couldn't understand why the driver side hadn't filled. I hung the passenger side up and was going to go in and ask when I realized that the driver side had resumed. It took a minute for me to understand what was going on. I had an SUV (see below) that had a 7700# towing capacity. In the 8 1/2 years I owned it, I can count the times I towed a trailer on one hand. Some people tow on a regular basis. Most don't. Yup. Expensive, 'exotic' luxury cars depreciate a LOT faster than 'regular' cars. Back in 2015, on a Porsche forum I participate in, I learned that a 'ten year old Cayenne with 100k on it can be found for under $20k.' It took a bit of looking, but I found an 05 Turbo with 103k on it for a bit under $16k. Sticker price (window sticker was in the inch thick stack of maintenance records) was $93k. Over 80% in ten years. The Porsche Panamera is similar. Bentleys are worse. I know a guy (on the Porsche board) who got a 'not terribly old' Bentley for $50k. $300k plus new.

Yeah, not watching the pump nozzle when you are putting gas in is REALLY stupid. And dangerous. Note: In the US, for a vehicle hauling hazardous materials (HazMat), it's legally required to be in view of the pump when fueling.

What's 'weird' about it? It's the first Friday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. Which makes perfect sense if you understand the importance of the spring fertility festivals for the Northern European Pagans. The Easter Bunny, Easter eggs, even the name "Easter" (derived from "Ishtar"). All just as Pagan as the Christmas Tree, Yule Log, even jolly old Satan Claus.

Oh please. He's said a lot more clueless stuff than that in the past.

It could simply be that people are getting sick & tired of seeing the results of unrestricted capitalism. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, that 'super successful' businessman Trumpty Dumpty. And don't forget that the ENTIRE Republican party has sold out to them. Including the 'conservatives' on the Supreme Court.

When there's no actual message, just accusations and allegations, then attacking the messenger is the only option. Still waiting for any proof of 'Biden's corruption'. Not holding my breath that you have any.

Yes. My missing the 'electric furnace' part in the previous post was important. Electric heat is high consumption. Toss in "Canadian Plains" climate and it increases significantly. I have an oil burner myself (northeast WI). Even with a level 2 (240v) car charger installed, I'm nowhere near 100 amps. If I went to electric heat (say the furnace failed and I had to run space heaters - which is not conjecture), I likely wouldn't be able to charge the car at the same time.

Evidence? From him? Oh puh-leeeeeeeeze.

They aren't looking for actual solutions. They're looking to scare the crap out of their idiot supporters. You know, the 'uneducated' that Trump loves so much. They're looking for 'someone' to blame. They will then paint themselves as the only people who can 'save the country'. Standard despot tactics. Just like, you know, Hitler.

Republicans formalise Biden Impeachment inquiry…
wolfriverjoe replied to jakee's topic in Speakers Corner
I do wish people would stop calling them conspiracy theories. A scientific theory is a tested, demonstrated, clearly accurate and truthful explanation for observed phenomenon. Relativity, evolution, gravity (still needs work), that sort of thing. The 'Biden Crime Family' isn't a theory. It's a conspiracy FANTASY. Same as "fake moon landing", "Illuminati controls the whole world", "9/11 truthers" and a host of others that are blatant bullshit. -
Texas Supreme Court Temporarily Halts Court-Approved Abortion
wolfriverjoe replied to David Wang's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, considering that EVERY ballot measure on abortion has gone against them, I can see why. The only way they can win is to deny people the right to vote. This does not apply only to abortion. -
The right became the ones with the indefensible ideas. You know, the Nazis.

It's against the rules to give this the retort it truly deserves.

Oh piffle. You still wonder about that?
