  1. I myself am currently saving up to be able to make my first jump. I want to experience Freefall, so that leaves Tandem or AFF. However, for some reason AFF doesn't unnerve me like the though of a tandem does. Odd, I know, and I can't exactly explain why, but just the way it is. So AFF is the way I'm going. Course I also have wanted to do this for six years, and thusly saving up money so that I have enough for quite a few jumps so I don't go a long time without one. Well.. then again.. all my friends do think I'm more than a little crazy for all the strange things I do.. so that may have something to say. So, I'd say go for AFF :) Plus like was said you get to spend the day at the DZ, which is a blast.
  2. The lid not closing is not a real issue. My MBP is like that, from where I put a bit too much pressure on it while it was across my eg. Everything is fine. The face plate coming up from the case, that is a little worrisome to me, but unless you plan on having your Mac out in the rain.. in the shower.. or whatnot.. it should be fine. Me, I just store & carry it in a water resistant laptop bag.
  3. Isn't that why they made webcams? So, I'm guessing that your username is a adaptation of querida, then? :P And no, not an adaptation of that. It's more of an adaptation of Cerridwen that I created for use on a MUD about 10 years ago. Been using the name since for most online stuff.
  4. Never will deny it.. there's a reason I make a living tending to those things Oh.. and hehe.. I get laid just about every night. Just unfortunately my girlfriend is off visiting her boyfriend this weekend. So, I'm cut off until Sunday. Yes, I'm the girl that all the geeky boys dream about, but can't have.. because.. well... they has the wrong plumbin'!
  5. Yup. I'm far from a Mac-fangirl. I own one because work dropped it in my lap. I will admit, I've fallen for the little laptop. It has it's quirks, but I like it. All in all.. the Intel Macs are just a PC with a different type of firmware on the Mobo. The Mac OS is just a customized BSD(version of the almighty Unix), and a unique GUI. The drawback to the Mac is the cost. Which honestly, you are paying for the OS.. with a tried and true Unix core, not the hardware. Oh wait, that's right.. they sell the OS for less than $200, and to offset they markup the cost of the entire package. Not a bad idea really. Lowering the price of the OS means more people are likely to upgrade when the next version comes along.
  6. Hm funny... my Mac has a better video card than my Desktop. Less memory, but still better. Nvidia 8600M GT 256mb ram in my Mac. Nvidia 8500 (forget the extioning) 512mb card in my desktop. Either machine will run it.
  7. Considering it acts as bootloader for the EFI chip (which Macs use instead of the Bios that PCs generally do) so that you can then load a native Windows install, it shoudl run without too many issues. Assuming the proper drivers for the Mac hardware are installed.
  8. Commodore64 baby! Are you keeping up with the Commodore? Cause the Commodore's keeping up with you! There.. now that I've gotten myself shot(or glomped) by those who know what I just did... Computer, hands down. Any computer, as long as it has a net connection. Why? MUDs, that's why. The precursor to our modern MMO. Everquest was even sued because it was thought to use the server architecture of a certain MUD codebase. And technically all MMOs are MUDs, just with a nice graphical interface instead of the text medium. Plus these days you can get almost any console game to run on the computer if you get the right tools. Edit: For all you kiddies out there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_f3uIzEIxo&feature=related
  9. yeah I am soo not gonna argue that GIMP is.. well.. GIMPed compared to PS, lol.
  10. Not even readin the thread or looking at the options... YES!
  11. Not a problem! I'm all for converting people from Windows! There's starting to be fewer and fewer valid reasons for people to stick with it, since more and more 'windows only' software is able to be used in *nix by some means, or have a much better free *nix alternative. Note for those in the dark: *nix is refering to Unix and/or linux and the variations thereof
  12. Cedega is like $5/mo which gives you voting priviledges towards denoting which games you want them to work on increasing support for. Only downside, they used to have an initial 3mo signup and then just $5/mop after that. Now they seem to go for 6 or 12mo periods. You only need to have a current subscription when you want updates. If the version you are using plays all your games to your satisfaction, no need to keep it active. Most of your big popular titles work really really well. More obscure ones, or those with less of a following are sometimes hit or miss. As for photoshop, I am not entirely certain. Offhand I would say it should be able to run it. If not you can try Crossover office as a free trial just to see if that may work for ya.
  13. As a note, a 32 bit OS, which is what XP Pro/Home is as well as the normal Vista and Linux kernels, can support up to 4GB of ram. It's just that MS fubared their memory management with XP, and it can only properly allocate memory up to 3GB. Thus XP can only go up to 3GB efficiently. However, on any 32bit OS you are limited to 4GB. Want to go above that... use XP Pro 64, Vista 64.. or even better just throw windows out the door, load up 64bit Linux, and use Cedega. 14. Thanks for the heads up! As I've said a couple of times, I'll be up there on Sat, weather permitting to hang out and meet people. Going to work some overtime at work to save up the money. Not hard, just I want to make sure I have enough for in case I like it, I have extra to progress further without much downtime :) So far most of the things in the SIM and from extra readings things are at least making sense. Right now it's just familiarizing myself with things. I'll hopefully have time this week to read through some more and absorb it better.
  15. That's easy :P I'm slowin down.. your the one still speedin along Though admittedly I read that entirely the wrong way.... read it as: "Do you get..." But thanks for the other questions.
