  1. Shocking and very sad news. My thoughts and best wishes go out to team mates, family and friends at this difficult time. I'm not a friend as such, just felt compelled to pass on my condolences on the loss of a fellow skydiver in such a sudden and unexpected fashion. www.southparc.co.uk
  2. I'm doing a presentation on 4-way for a group of jumpers new to the sport and when talking about the dive pool a random thought occured. Where the formation names come from? Obvious ones like 'Star' 'Caterpillar' and 'Donut' are probably generic and fairly easy to understand, but someone somewhere came up with the less obvious Marquis, Ritz and Photon! ..just a bit of fun really www.southparc.co.uk
  3. What's interesting in the UK FS scene right now is the level of female involvement. It kind of makes you think about the much debated all-female class when you look down the list of top AAA UK teams. Out of 8 AAA teams doing the nationals, only one has an all-male line-up! In other categories, ladies are well represented and as equally talented as their male counterparts. If this was 100 metre sprinting, I could understand the reason for segregation. But as for 4-way, the likes of Elan and Storm, plus of course the talents of Eliana from Airspeed and current world Champion Natasha Montgomery makes you realise gender is as relevant to skydiving skill as colour of your eyes! www.southparc.co.uk
  4. The Bodyflight world Challenge on 8/9th April is taking palce at the Bedford tunnel. Currently there are only TWO teams in the Amateur category. C'mon guys... Get a scratch team together, go with other FS buddies... anything... Just enter and you're in with a good chance of getting a gong, not to mention a great weekend with the unique chance to watch, close up and live, the best 4-way flyers in the world doing what they do best! Not to mention a huge Party too! Let's show the world how good grass-roots skydiving and have a laugh doing it! Chris (Contact the tunnel for details) www.southparc.co.uk
  5. Best of luck to team Elan this season! Am completely biased now of course!!! ;) In other news.. Katie is a quality flyer and a really cool chick - be really interesting to see Hayabusa with her on board. Great bunch of guys. www.southparc.co.uk

Brilliant! Not sure who's side is hurting more... Nige's or mine's from Laughing Gold medal freeflyer, don't y'know.... Nice one Nige Keep 'em coming! www.southparc.co.uk
  7. Anyone heard about Tarn Hollis (Bodyflight Rage - 3rd AAA at 2006 nats) teaming up with fellow Bodyflight instructor Katie Woods? -Positively NO advertising in this forum.....Chuck www.southparc.co.uk
  8. Yeah - just to back up all that Dru said really! Great meet - and what an awesome operation Hib is once the clouds part - 96 lifts in 9 and a bit hours - that is truely a skydiving monster machine in operation. congrats to all medallists. Special shout out to Bodyflight Rage managing a great meet with a last minute alternate. Hell of a way to have to compete at Nationals following a huge commitment of nearly 10 months hard training and a collosal training bill, so well done guys! Oh - and Escondido Rock! (Nice jump off guys - shame to be pipped, but it made great TV!!) www.southparc.co.uk
  9. What a meet! Despite the weather doing it's best to ruin things for everyone! Special congratulations to Pete Allum for working so hard with Sinapsi and getting a well-overdue world meet medal. One of the most well-respected and talented skydivers the UK has ever produced, I'm very pleased for him right now. Airkix did a great job with Dan BC at the helm too. Surely only a matter of time that the whole male/female divide becomes irrelevent in the eyes of the FAI. Natasha, Eliana and the like proving convincingly that gender is not an issue in our sport! www.southparc.co.uk
  10. ...what Gordo said!! Nice work Emma! You guys keep working the plan. Dives looking very very sweet! Good Job! xxx www.southparc.co.uk
  11. Anyone care to rotate with my group? Booking is Fri night. If you are interested in flying between 9 - 10pm please get in touch chris at southparc dot co cot uk thanks www.southparc.co.uk
  12. Not sure if this is the right forum, but I'd just like to say a massive thanks to Craig Girard and all of Airspeed for the challenge. This is a big-way weekend with Airspeed as coaches. This year we built a rather tricky 105 way with over 50% outfacing slots. The dive was not the easiest to build, but with some expert help and a lot of grit and determination from those lucky enough to be at Eloy, we managed to complete the formation on the last dive of the day. I'm hoping someone will post a photo soon somewhere - but in the mean time, thank you Airspeed for a great weekend! chris hollis www.southparc.co.uk
  13. Wow! love that 3-way pool -Just the thing for walk up dives or drills when your one guy down off your 4-way! Koala to Sidebody anybody!? www.southparc.co.uk
  14. Anyone here going to the challenge in Eloy, end of May? If anyone is looking for digs and not wanting to bunkhouse/motel it, I'm renting a house with a room (for 1 or 2 people - house is 1 twin - 1 double) spare - will split the rent between us (Currently $50 a night - 15 mins from DZ) Looking forward to what Craig has thought up!! Cheers All Chris www.southparc.co.uk
  15. deliberate mistake!!! Please use URL for tunnel map!! http://www.geocities.com/choll15/MAP.jpg Ta muchly!!! www.southparc.co.uk
  16. Hello everyone... I hear lots and lots of people saying they found it hard to find Bodyflight Bedford tunnel. I've made this simple map (Not to scale I hasten to add!) You get the idea. Have a look, If you've never been - hope it comes in handy... If you already know where it is... let me know if it makes sense! If you like it... feel free to tell your mates to use it! (I only did directions to the gate that's manned 24/7 as I thought to do both would only add to the confusion - Also I've made the wild -if not stupid assumption people can find the town of Bedford!!) Feedback welcome! Chris H PS.. Nige - backflying is coming on mate - slowly! I'm succumbing to the dark side!! Aaaargh!! www.southparc.co.uk
  17. Stairstep, it is Nige! Honestly!! In return for your freeflying tips, you and I are gonna have to sit down and let me teach you the whole IPC dive pool! (Learning all the letters and numbers, like all good FS types do!) Unless of course you just wanna backfly!!! www.southparc.co.uk
  18. Hey, thanks guys... Relaxing sounds like a good place to start! Thanks for the tips - I'll let u know how I do! Nige - your advice was fine, mate... I just started to suck again later on!! www.southparc.co.uk
  19. Hi Well, both I guess - posted here as I thought that most knowledgable freeflyers would check this forum out! It's all good! Just if you saw my back flying - you'd take pity on me too - or run away for safety!! www.southparc.co.uk
  20. Just getting into backflying in a few tunnel sessions, and really struggling!! I just can't seem to get it right and have a crappy tendancy to spin/slide/crash!! Whilst amusing for spectators it's getting on my nerves! Determined not to give up - if anyone has any back-to-basic tips - I'd be more than grateful! I've got nearly 2000 belly jumps, but they're worth diddly now the world is upside down! In fact it's like I've never jumped! lol... I've been shown the basics but my body refuses to fly stable!!.. maybe being 6' 5" doesn't help, but I know it can be done as I've seen some awesome flyers that were a similar size to me (Chris in PVSV springs to mind) I refuse to give in until I'm broke!! HELP!!!! Chris www.southparc.co.uk
  21. As a tail flyer, my inside centre and I thoroughly agree with our coaches continuity plan for us of doing mirrors and front piece getting the switches. Come time to form your next team - Get yourself in the back piece and switchers are a thing of the past!
  22. If you guys ever come over to the UK, get yourself to the Bodyflight tunnel. My team has practised the entire pool, without a problem. 1's had to be cheated a little at the top(I'm 6' 5"!) and 2's, 4's and 22's required careful placement at the top of the block to ensure minium carnage, but other than that, we are spoilt for space. If anything, you have to work hard to keep the orthodox tunnel blocks (5, 6, 7, 9 etc) in the centre of the tunnel to ensure pieces don't drift apart. My knees still shuddder at the memory of 14's in Perris, and Pat McGowan will tell you why it's not great having a 6' 5" guy in the tunnel with you! ;-) (...I'll never live that WWF session down!) www.southparc.co.uk
  23. Easy exits? Personally, I always like P (Sidebody) - lots of grips and no funky presentation. The secret of a good launch is timing, presenting each flyer to the relative airflow and presenting the piece in the same way. Now you know, it should be simple, right Keep it nice and simple if starting off, and follow the good advice from everyone so far. Infacing formations for exit communication are great. O, M, B and F all fall into this category. Block techinque - most people learn zig-mar fairly early on (boogie block) Each block has its own idiosyncracies (..its a word) but ensuring you have a good solid build at the start and trying to make sure you see the staged pictures throughout the sequence are good general tips for any move. 7, 9 and 14 should be easy as they are just individual flying skills, but just watch those pieces drift apart when you try and blast it! Slow down a notch as a team and the block speed will improve! Good luck! Chris www.southparc.co.uk
  24. Great feedback guys, sounds as if Team GB caused a few raised eyebrows! I guess it's always going to be interesting going against other countries, as their interpretation of which team goes where may be slightly different to ours. Having said that, it's a shame that the rules were modified to exlude teams for being 'too good'. This time next year, all being well, Helix and Damn will be AAA, and probably good at it too (watching my back here!) and the addition of other countries into the ESL idea can only be a good thing (If only for different beers!!) Hopefully GB can put a decent showing in all categories. Well done again, all ESL participants - whatever your nationality. And nice one 'Team GB'! www.southparc.co.uk
  25. Hey Dru, and all UK ESL participants... Fantastic job at the weekend! All UK teams did really well - Especially the 1-2-3 in A class, and 1-2 in rookie. Great stuff. The Brits must've done well in the overall sword competition with those results, but ESL site is yet to update. Anyone know what happened? (Apart from enjoying a lot of continental beer!)
