That old mother wearing the dark hat with glasses is walking out with the $200K right in front of our eyes!!! Check out the sack wrapped in string... how could we have been so blind? It's been mentioned before... the finders of the Cooper Ca$h could very well have found more than they told the authorities (I'M NOT SAYING THEY DID, JUST SAYING IT'S POSSIBLE) including the bag and more (less damaged cash). Also, we are dealing with a time prior to cell phones, so there was obviously a time lapse between the discovery, notifying authorities and the search at Tena's Bar. It is doubtful that the find location was secure until the FBI got there. Since we are in speculation mode, it won't hurt to think about this possibility...

I think that sooner or later, a piece of evidence/information is going to come out that actually cracks this case open - you can probably have your item scanned at a Fedex Kinkos or UPS Store (or a local newspaper) for a nominal fee.

I am definitely of the opinion that this was his intent... and when that plan got messed up, his delayed bail out resulted in jumping into an unknown DZ...bummer! It's been explored before probably, but were the known DZ's nearest the departure airport ever investigated... if there was such a drop zone near the airport I'd put money on the fact that our Mr. Cooper had jumped it before. I'm becoming less convinced that he planned to just pick a spot (especially given the low visibility) and jumped...

Good observation... I have always felt we were dealing with someone who needed a massive amount of (1971 value) cash FAST, and a compulsive gambler fits the profile... also helps explain his HIGH RISK escape strategy versus just robbing a bank.

Jo, No offense was intended, but I do not feel that you are aware of how many of your comments leave the reader feeling. That was my point in referencing them. I still believe that if a case could be made on circumstantial evidence alone (using your statements), Duane Weber could be the man. Unfortunately that is not possible, and without substantiating proof, your memories of this or that just won't do it. In your mind, Duane was DB Cooper. That's fine. No argument. You win. I feel that Ckret has been very forthcoming about the information in his possession, and nothing seems to link Duane to this case. I also believe that Ckret truly wants to solve this case, and cannot afford to expend valuable time & resources chasing down "what ifs". Again, apologies for offending you.

Ckret: This has probably been covered before... but: (1) Did the FBI cross check missing persons reports from the late '71-'72 timeframe (nationwide)? (2) Has there been any bodies found in/around the Columbia River since '71? Thanks...

Flight Ops most likely got on the landline with Boeing, sort of a tech support thing, common in the industry when there is a "what do we do now?" scenario being played out.

Jo... you will get farther down the road by focusing on locating EVIDENCE that supports Duane being DB Cooper. So what if Galen Cook (allegedly) took your info and used them for his book? It happens! Sit back and let him publish his book... if it supports EVIDENCE making Wolfgang Gossett the real DB Cooper, then it's time to fold up the tent and go home. If he can't do it... then Duane is still in the running. SUMMARY: Focus on supporting your own case and don't worry about other suspects.

The Tie: My bet is that Cooper simply forgot the tie, because 37 years later we are no closer to uncovering any clues from it than we were in '71. If the cabin lights were out, he could easily have overlooked it when packing up and getting ready to bail out. I also feel this way because he left no other clues and was very careful to retrieve his notes.

Collins, CO, your name shows up there as having some unclaimed funds... www.missingmoney.com I again encourage you to trace all of your past states of residence with Duane, check the state unclaimed database (using all known identities) and you might get lucky and find more pieces to your puzzle.

Thank you Ckret, for a government guy you have a great sense of humor!! "...maybe a half pound lighter" Guess there is not much mystery to this aspect, but still seems strange... too bad the passengers did not know what was going on, or they may have pulled a "Let's Roll!" and stormed the bathroom.

OK kids... let's crank up a discussion on something that has always baffled me, and does not involve analyzing how long a $20 bill floats...: Cooper was in the lavatory during the pit stop for fuel and money... does anybody know: 1) How long was he in the can, and what time? 2) Did the crew have any idea what he did in there? 3) Was there any effort by the crew to haul their butts off the plane and leave him there all by himself? 4) Did he take his "bomb" with him? 5) Did LE process the lavatory for evidene? Does anybody else find it odd that a hijacker takes time out for a bathroom break? Ideas? Thoughts? Hate to say it... but our suspect Mr. Weber had problems with his kidneys...

Jo, Thanks for detailed account of the questions I raised. This might be a long shot but an idea I have for you is to research unclaimed property that might have been in Duane's name or any one of his aliases for which he may have had an ID for. Each state maintains this database, because when someone fails to claim the contents of a safe box, bank account, utility deposit, etc. the person holding such items cannot just keep it. The website that you can use to get there is www.unclaimed.org . I did a quick search in Florida (www.fltreasurehunt.org) and found unclaimed property belonging to "D L Weber", may not be Duane, but you see the point that there could be something out there to help you unravel more of this mystery.

Jo, This may have been asked about before, but I can't remember. Going back to when Duane was in the hospital, and he told you he was "Dan Coooooper..." what was his condition like? How medicated was he? Were there any other strange statements made around that same timeframe? OPINION: The average person wanting to "confess" to the hijacking would probably have said "D.B." versus "Dan" because of the notoriety of the DB moniker. I also feel that he would have left you some conclusive proof to corroborate the confession... otherwise, what was his point in doing it? The statements that Duane told his employer he was injured cutting trees... are those recorded somewhere or is that a "somebody told somebody" account? QUESTION: Did Duane maintain safe deposit box(es) during your marriage? If yes, what type of contents did he store there? Thanks...

I think the "placard" was paper or cardboard that was inserted in a plastic sleeve/holder if my memory is right I remember seeing it described as such... it is probably in evidence at FBI and Ckret can possibly confirm that -- in other words I do not think it was feasible to be used to prop open the stair, etc.

Ckret: At the risk of getting booted from this forum, what would be the harm in comparing the fingerprints to all of those on prison incarceration records for Duane Weber and his aliases and getting it out of the way? I am asking from the standpoint of "let's get it over with" because that may be the only true evidence that will ever link him to DB Cooper. If there is a link, it is time well invested. Thoughts?
