Im a home grown jumper up at SSM so ive seen some things change over the last few years, some for the better, some for the worst. Overall its a great place to jump. Its location is pretty convenient, the airplane is a very nice turbine plane that gets you the extra altitude for the same price as a cessna dz. Every once in a while you get bumped for tandems but thats what keeps the otter flying unfortunately so you deal with it. There are some down sides but you find that everywhere and it seems like they are working hard to undo any bad image they may have gotten.. Overall i think SSM is a top notch facility.

Ok, so ill just start with this... I am THINKING about doing a MR Bill with a friend of mine this weekend. I have been giving alot of thought to this, and i have come up with some very bad worst case scenarios. I have about 300 jumps now, I am 6'4 weigh about 200 lbs, and the other jumper is about 5'6 probably 100 lbs. I fly a sabre 1 190 and would like to hear from people who have done this kind of jump before, or someone who knows better than me. Basically im looking for someone to either talk me out of it if this is something that is just too unsafe, or if it is something that can be done safely i am looking for advice on how to keep it safe. Keep in mind, im not a 100 jump wonder looking to pull off the next badass stunt. I have wanted to do this since i started jumping, and unfortunately its something i will most likely never experience myself because of my size, but i wouldnt mind participating. Im also not one of those guys thats gonna do it either way and looking for someone to support me. Im looking for honest, experienced answers because i am not as experienced as many of you out there are. Im not looking for stupid trolls to come derail this thread, im looking for blunt, honest advice on this and possibly some different perspectives on the safety of this, and worst case scenarios.. Thank you.

Yea, theres nothing skydiving related here, but this is what skydivers do to whuffos when playing quarters.... Funnnnnn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k49fqVaWDO4 sorry, dont know how to make it clicky

Try a knee locked exit. One jumper faces the prop, one faces the tail. Roll out, keep legs locked till stable (if your sit is decent it shouldnt take too long) and then enjoy. Thats how i did my first few sit jumps till i could do it stable just leaving the plane. i guess its kinda like a 2way horny gorilla on exit

Skydiving, beer and depression
MattMazzocco replied to Melt16's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If i make less than 5 jumps a week, or have to take a weekend off of skydiving i become very irritable. I wouldnt say depressed but im sure drinking wouldnt make the situation any better. Just need my weekly skybath to be ok. -
Its funny to read this right now, my gf was just busting my balls to her mom about the positioning of my junk when i tighten up my leg straps. I have a tendency to jump without a suit and for some reason i always forget to zip my zipper after i tuck my shirt in, and i never notice it myself... I have had more people tell me about my zipper being down and junk hangin out (covered by boxers, but out none the less). I readjust until they feel great.... Like it or not, ladies or not, i dont care. If it shifts in front of a 12 year old girl im gonna re adjust.. nut unders are the worst malfunction ever...

Tandem or s/l for first jump
MattMazzocco replied to mike110's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When i did my first jump i had no intention of pursuing the sport.. Did a tandem and loved it. Went to a diff dz the next weekend and did 2 more. Went back out the next weekend and did 2 more.. After spending almost 850 on tandems i decided it would be a wise choice to take aff due to the fact that i couldnt stop going. Personally i am glad i did the tandems first because it made my aff progression painless and much easier. I cant imagine doing my first jump solo, seems quite overwhelming. Then again i think if i were to do another tandem it would scare the shit out of me now. Either way just do whatever feels right to you. It can be a life changing experience if you have the right personality for it. Good luck, be safe and blue skies always. -
the slider on this canopy is twice the size of the slider on the triathalon 220 that i was jumping prior to this canopy. I have watched the last 2 pack jobs and slider was in the right position.. Funny thing is the slider sticks for about 7 seconds or so at the top of the line set before making its way down... I cant even imagine what it would be like if the slider was smaller or came down quicker.. And when i say this thing is big, im not joking, you could jump the damn slider safely, maybe even swoop it.

its a little more colorful than that, although it takes a few seconds to get oriented... The canopy was packed by 3 different people with the same results. All 3 of them have different packing techniques and all 3 beat my ass. I tried contacting icarus but they have not returned my calls.. The rep i talked to at their rigging center said this is unheard of but he is not a rigger so one should be calling me soon hopefully.... I hope i can resolve this issue because i love the way this thing flys and dont really have the money for a new canopy as i need an aad even more. Any packing tips?
-
It is time for the canopy to be relined so that was one thought, another might be the pilot chute might be a little too big as well. This thing flys like a dream, has TONS of flare and is everything i wanted in a canopy at this stage outside of feeling like im in a head on collision on opening. I will contact icarus and see what they have to say.

I just purchased this canopy and love the way it flys. It is semi elliptical and im digging everything about it except for the openings... I have had a few hard openings but the 3 that i put on this canopy were unforgiving.. People on the ground thought i went unconcious on my second jump on this canopy and i dumped at 6k.... This thing just absolutely beats the piss out of me and i was wondering if there are any packing techniques used on this specific canopy to make openings a little easier on me. I jumped it on sunday and my neck is still hurting today. It has a massive slider on it. Any ideas would help... I love flying this thing but i wont be able to keep it if it keeps beating me up... Thanks.... Matt

I have jumped my last 25 jumps in shorts and a shirt and i love the feeling but you do lose quite a bit of control in the air. It is an incredible feeling but i only do it if i am doing solos or 2 ways with arm lock docks.. If you are going to do it secure your shit man.. that is no joke. i forgot to tuck in on 1 jump and had a friend of mine doing video... i did a flip and up comes the shirt, right over my emergency handles. I was able to tuck it in before deployment but it could have been ugly if something had gone wrong. If your gonna do it at least wear a long sleeve shirt for more control. I will personally be jumping my suit once i buy one, but for now im too big for the suits available to me and i like being comfortable.. Its all your choice, just make it right.

My Continuous Struggle To Arch Properly
MattMazzocco replied to anthonyfellows's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
get a few couch cushions and set them up on the floor. Set them up high enough so that your feet or head dont touch the ground.. position your weight on your lower back and just lay there. I did this with a back pack on for 2 weeks before my first aff jump and i had no problems with my arch at all... it actually helped improve my posture as well. Arching is a very un-natural body position and the more you do it the more muscle memory will kick in.. -
My comment was to the mod that removed my post. No hard feelings either way, its just hard having to sift through 200 posts to read 3 replies that are relevant to the thread..... Plus the combative attitude is just annoying to read and reminds me of that loud obnoxious drunk guy at the bar that everyone is trying to avoid.

Sounds like your getting hooked up. I was on student gear for 7 months and spent over 1500 on rental fees alone, not even including my jumps. Nice

What i posted wasnt a PA. It was simply an observation. I felt that Virgin was running his mouth and i pointed out that i hoped nobody at his dz reads this board. Its funny how someone like me who might try to gain knowledge from this board has a hard time doing so due to someone posting 4 replies in a row to their own statements and then rambles off into a completely different direction by the end of his reply. VB = Troll Is that a PA?

Do wealthy or powerful people get better treatment?
MattMazzocco replied to galvar2439's topic in The Bonfire
I grew up poor. Dad got an education and worked hard as hell to open up his own dental practice. All of a sudden we were rich. Now my dad works 20 hour weeks and makes plenty of money, thats all anybody sees. They dont see the countless hours he put into establishing himself, the money he spent paying for college, kids, and opening up a practice all one after another. Now I myself am not a "Wealthy" guy, i own a nice small buisness and i hang in the 6 figure area, but I had to bust my ass for the last 4 years to get there. The other day some guy was commenting on how much money i blow at the DZ and on other fun things i waste my money on, and then continued to tell me that i probably had it all given to me and never had to work a day in my life. Before i even had a chance to comment he started ranting about how he hates people with money so i just stopped listening and went about my day. It is MY opinion that most negativity about money comes from people who have none. Some people may bust their ass and make pennies. Where I run my business i watch people bust their asses all day long to make 50 bucks, while i make 70 on 1 job that takes me less than 15 minutes to complete. They work 500% harder than i could even pretend to work, yet they make less in 1 year than i owe in taxes quarterly. Does this make me a bad person? Does this make me anything more or less at all? No, it makes me someone who found a niche and exploited it, and because of it i have been rewarded with easy work and high income. Should i not enjoy the money? Should i feel bad if i want to fly first class? I dont think so at all. You get what you work for and if you are smart enough, you wont work for low wages and you will either educate yourself and find a career, or pray to god your lucky like i was and find a way to make alot of money without working too hard. If you dont like digging ditches, and you hate how much money you make, find another job. Dont get mad at someone who chose a different path than you.
